Yeah. And Nelson Mandela was wrong to disobey the apartheid laws.
Are you retarded? I cannot believe that you just compared getting the last episode of Buffy to a fight against being held in virutal slavery. Seriously get some perspective. You can download all the illegal MPs, 0 day warez and pre-release movies you want but please free youself of the delusion that you "fight the good fight". You may not think it's stealing and you may not believe in giving the MPAA any of your money but you are not George Washington, Ghandi or Mandela. You are a Pirate. Get over it and enjoy your movie.
Yet this article has been "edited" over 150 times. Some of those edits consisted of vandalism, and others were cleanups afterward. But how many Wikipedian editors have read that article and not noticed what I saw on a cursory scan? How long does it take for an article to evolve into a "polished, presentable masterpiece," or even just into a usable workaday encyclopedia article?
The very thing you suggest appears to be the problem. Anyone can edit the article. Who is there to determine what is accurate and what is vanalism and what is just plain wrong? I would argue that Wikipedia has the same problem as slashdot. If you don't think that lowlifes have anything better to do than crapflood a website try browsing at -1. As wikipedia becomes more popular editors will spend more time scrubbing graffiti off of articles than updating them. That is an excellent point and pointing out the problem as the solution is not going to fix it.
Forewarning: The open source community is not portrayed in positive light so you might want to skip reading this.
So instead of reading things which can cause us to question our preconceptions we should label all Slashdot stories like so:
RMS Approved!
Guaranteed not to cause terrorism in children!
NCH (Nothing controversial here!)
Telling other people not to read something because you don't agree with it is moronic. Submitting a story to Slashdot and then telling people not to read it it just asinine.
I see a lot of posts asking why Applescript is useful. Here's one good reason. Salling Clicker. If you have a bluetooth phone and a mac you can write scripts to do just about anything. The sample ones will control iTunes and the DVD player. I have seen scripts for automatic away messages in iChat when you leave bluetooth range. Some people even use it to control presentations. Check it out it's pretty cool.
I don't know of any companies that have been around that long.
If you are looking for a few companies that meet this age criteria try Zildjian Cymbal Co. It is in Norwell, Mass., founded in Turkey in 1623 and now in its 14th generation of management by the Zildjian family.
for a more complete list of companies with some time behind them try this list.
If I'm a sharecropper with windows does that mean that working on Linux is the equivalent of Stalin's russia? (With Linus as Stalin of course, and the GNU people acting as the KGB) What about SCO? If I work with SCO is that the equivalent of being a citizen of a banana republic? Is working on a Mac the equivalent of being in a hippie commune? Is working on BSD the equivalent of being a citizen of sealand?

If I was going to try to sell linux to my Boss I know the first 3 questions that will be asked.
1) So we can install Office XP. Will Microsoft support it?
2) Can we patch MS Office after we install it? (Microsoft doesn't just do security patches they fix features too. Being able to fix those is a big deal for us.)
3) So we've freed ourselves from dependance on Microsoft for support. How many companies can we get to support Mandrake?
Anyone have any idea on the answers to these? I'm not trying to be sarcastic I really should be able to answer these if I want to even try and suggest linux
Just think about the possibilities when Tivo and this company team up. Soon my Tivo will be purchasing showtunes for me while reserving my flight to the Congo while still making sure that I get an arc welder delivered to my door.
Last time I checked the best way to evaluate a technology was to see if it meets your needs in a secure fashion. Calling FTP a "Dinosaur" shows that you are only interested in being 3733t and not being really secure. If you really want to impress the script kiddies on IRC try something challenging like tunneling FTP through SSH or use something like SCP to transfer files.
It's seems like they say that AMD'S 3000+ rating is extremely aggressive and they do not seem to think it should have had that rating. They also have a good point in there about price gouging essentially eliminating the comeptitive price difference. Since the chip is so hard to get the price skyrockets. It's kind of disturbing that AMD recommends testing this chip with DirectX 7 that definitely does not speak well of AMD's confidence in competing with Intel's stengths.
At the very end when they are doing their calculations they use DRAM and a FPGA components. They then go on to state:
The bandwidth of the fastest PC memory is 3.2GB/sec
The GX specs specifically state that they support 4.2 GB per second. They also state that memory latency is about 40ns. I checked pricewatch and found at least 6ns for pretty cheap. There are to many areas where it says "at least", "probably" or "about" for calculations regarding how much time it takes. They might be right but their "proof" consists of restating mathmatics rules and estimations. They probably should have spent more time on actual calculations and proofs
late at night--This phrase returned the highest number of results of any I searched and yet it also adheres closely to the 60-70-80 rule.
If he really wanted a large search he should have tried "porn".....
Normally I don't complain about the lack of checking of facts and figures for stories. Shouldn't Slashdot have checked to make sure there were multiple people with OS/2 installed on their system before pluralizing users in the story? Maybe they called both users to see if they were happy about the announcement....
Isn't it bad enough to be trapped in a room with these people all day? Firemen and policemen, military actually depend on each other for their lives. If my life depended on the IT decisions that my coworkers made I'd be totally screwed. On a serious note I doubt that with recent trends of IT professionals people actually spend enough time in one job to form those kind of lifetime friendships.
Before even reading the article I could figure out what most of the comments were going to be like. "Linux doesn't need this anyways!!" "Windows users are so dumb that they'll actually pay for this!!!" or better yet "Write your support in!!!" Here's a clue, they don't care if you e-mail them. If you really want to impress them have every one go out and *buy* the current version which is still supported. Now I realize that the notion of actually buying software just made several script kiddies pass out, but real companies need money. If you want to support something toss them a bone once in a while.

How ervasive and effective can a system be when you are paying people to review it. There are 3 problems that spring to mind.
1) Doesn't it defeat the purpose of hiding something when you pay thousands of people to read it?
2) How effective can any system that relies on human judgement be?
3) What's to stop a small dedicated group of people from letting a few "un-authorized" pages slip through the cracks.

I don't like the RIAA either but just because you don't like them doesn't give you a reason to steal music.
Is it OK to steal a loaf of bread to feed my starving family? Should it then be OK to steal music to entertain my boring family?

On a scale of one to SCO'ed I say that this webserver is done for.
I'm not entirely sure what that website sells but I know that I want to punch the crap out of it.

lik-sang appears to have a connector for sale. Here you go!
u cts_id=2701&

I had the exact same ID problem and here is how I fixed it:
1) Goto http://www.apple.com
2) Go into the apple store
3) Signin using your userid
4) Add your credit card info to you apple ID
5) (optional?) I turned on 1-click shopping too, not sure if it mattered
6) Go back into iTunes and go through the registration process. You should be able to use your existing ID now.
I can definitely tell you that this worked for me but your milage may vary depending on the gremlins living in your house.
An extremely intersting post which essentially says:
Screw you guys, I'm goin home....

Something tell's me that evrental's potato powered webserver just learned how to make crinkle cut fries.......
I amazed that about:mozilla still works. Although it appears that my tags will nolonger blink until the ends of the earth.... :)

it sure feels wrong somehow
What is this "pay" thing you MS users speak of?
