Check osnews.com. There are several reviews and links to reviews posted there.

Lycoris comes with Flash player, RealPlayer, Xine and xmms installed from the get-go. It also comes with Mozilla, but not OpenOffice. It instead uses KOffice.

I just installed it in under 45 minutes. It automatically detected my windows network as well as my windows partition.

It really does, in my opinion, live up to it's claim of making linux usable for everyone.

  3. Re:The truth about Mandrake 9 on Review of Linux Mandrake 9.0 · · Score: 0

Mandrake 9 was the first Linux distribution I've ever installed. It lasted 2 days, then I installed Red Hat 8.

In Mandrake I had major problems adding/editing users and other problems that with some time probably could have been fixed... but I didn't bother.

Red Hat has been nicer for me, but I still think that Linux is MUCH harder to learn than Windows was. For example, these tasks:

    1. Browsing my LAN (1 linux, 1 windows). I've tried configuring both Samba and Lisa, neither with success.

    2. Getting VNC to work right. Windows was click and go. In Linux I've tried editing the xsession file so many times I think it's wearing thin... I still get a gray desktop with an "X" cursor instead of KDE or gnome.

    3. Mozilla. Mozilla all of a sudden begins hogging resources. Instead of pressing ctrl+alt+delete and killing it, I have to go to a terminal, remember what the command is (top) and kill it from there. This took quite awhile to figure out. It also takes a lot longer when Mozilla is using 100% of the CPU.

    4. Installing software. I FINALLY found Synaptic which I love-- why does that not come standard with the distributions?

Anyway, that's just my experience so far.

I installed Linux for the first time 2 days ago. (Mandrake 9.0)

If file sharing is so easy, tell me why I still haven't been able to do it? I went through a LISA setup I believe it was then tried to click the network icon, nothing, tried typing in lan:/localhost (or something like that-there were instructions at the end of th LISA setup) in Konqueror and nothing... I know that it's my fault that this doesn't work, but there is no way you can say it's as easy as Windows. I can't even access files on the other hard drive of the same machine--again, my fault, and for you I'm sure it's a piece of cake, but I find myself digging through documentation to do these seemingly simple tasks.

I have a Psion Revo (http://www.silverfish.cc/psion) which has a much smaller keyboard. I was skeptical about being able to touch type on it, but after some practice, I'm up to over 40wpm with decent accuracy. I'm 6'7" so it's not just because I have small hands.

  6. Keyboard on Retail Sharp Zaurus Released · · Score: 1

I've used a Psion Revo (Diamond Mako) for a couple years now, and I'm still wondering why (especially now that Psion has left the handheld market) no one has made something similar to their keyboard. I can touch type on the Revo at faster than 50wpm, I can't imagine being able to do that on the Sharp Zarus. Until something as good as (or better) than the Revo keyboard comes along, I'm sticking with it.

It uses Opera as it's browser also, and can run Java applets along with a host of other features still uncommon on most Palm/Pocket PC handhelds.
