I don't really agree with the parents opinion but you missed a "that."
"Almost all of them THAT make more than 50k a year..." Meaning his following statement is only referring to a specific group, particularly, homeowners that make more than 50k a year.
Ah I see.. Sorry I assumed you were responding to the comment you replied to, unless slashdot isn't nesting posts correctly, which is entirely possible.
Are you claiming that if you send your children to a private school instead of a public school the government will refund all the money you pay in taxes towards education (with interest)?
Who cares? Parents? If your kid is sending nude pictures of him/herself to someone you have already failed as a parent. Teenagers shouldn't be taking nude pictures of themselves, and especially shouldn't be doing so on their phone.
If they are they can simply remove it from Google+ after the fact, choose not to automatically upload their photos, or they can simply take responsibility for the pictures. If they get out, it's their own fault for taking them.
And I have to wonder why you assume it would be more difficult for someone to look over your shoulder while you are using your phone rather than using your computer; or why it would be impossible for someone to hack or steal your phone, while it's perfectly viable for someone to hack Google.
Also I feel it should be pointed out that this isn't default in the facebook sense. You don't have to go into the app post-installation and switch something off in a buried menu. It brings up a big notice when you are installing the app asking you if you want to automatically upload the pictures. "Yes" may be the default option but it is a really obvious choice.
This is untrue. Yes the default (you can uncheck it) is to upload all your photos to Google+, but they are not shown on your profile until you specifically go onto G+ and show them. Until you do this they are just hosted online for you to view privately.
What counts as extremism? Just because an issue is polarized doesn't mean that one side isn't correct.
If I am certain that 2+2 equals 6, and you are certain that it equals 4, does that mean that we should be "moderate" and agree that 2 + 2 actually equals 5?
Does blockbuster have the same kind of streaming service as netflix?
I use netflix exclusively for the streaming, mostly older TV shows. My wife likes to watch movies though, and looking through the list a TON of the movies are going to disappear when netflix loses Starz. Does Blockbuster have a better or cheaper streaming option?
Stuff like "it" and "out" can be annoying, but when you have been using Swype for awhile you learn little tricks like slightly dipping below or above the "u" to avoid an incorrect guess.
It also got a lot more usable (imo) after the last update. Before it had a jump cursor that completely destroyed any chances of salvaging a partially correct word. The most recent update fixed this which makes it a lot easier to correct the second half of a word if swype guessed the first half correctly.
It's still not perfect, but I find it better than typing normally, and with any luck it should only improve with time.
If this is really better for video on mobile devices then will it work on Android also? And why not use it on laptops too, they can always benefit from better battery life.
Before I installed Ubuntu on my laptop it had Vista on it. I had to hold down the power button to shut down the computer because if I tried to shut it down properly it would hang on the "shutting down" screen for 15+ minutes.
Being 21, I have to agree. I taught myself to touch-type as it was never actually taught to me in school. I actually learned because my parents would make me go to bed long before I was actually tired, so I stayed up in the dark chatting with my friends on msn and aol. Being in the dark meant I had to type without looking at the keyboard, and after doing it for awhile it just became natural.
I'm presently in college and I have to say it amazes me how poorly some of these kids type. You'd think since my generation basically grew up IM'ing each other and playing around on the internet we'd naturally be good typists, but somehow the majority of kids my age failed to pick it up.
They really should teach typing still in school, although you should be able to test out of the class if you are already good at typing.
Personally I find that using Swype with my index finger decimates my two-thumb typing speed (and ease).
It really comes down to personal opinion though, but if you have trouble using thumbs to type I suggest you check out some of the alternative keyboards such as Swype.
Indeed. As far as I'm concerned if someone declares war on you, you ARE at war with them.
What difference does it make if Congress declares war against someone we are already at war with.
It's not like if someone comes up and is trying to shoot you, as long as you decide you want to "stay out of the fight" you magically can't get shot.
Assassination isn't necessarily a bad thing imo. If I could go back in time and assassinate Hitler, be darn sure I would.
Ya, Hitler may not have been directly involved in the combat, but I really don't give a crap, he still needed to die.

Because a lot of people are stupid and won't understand why their "sd card is broken" when they plug it into their windows laptops.

I never took any nude pictures of myself and sent them to anyone else. And I'm only 21 so I did grow up with a camera phone.
You sound awfully defensive, did you fail at parenting your children?

Sounds like you should buy a Nexus phone like I did.
Just re-watch SG1... don't torment yourself with SGU.

What about the patent for "look and feel" of the space elevator?

Everyone just switch to swype already and forget about needing to "feel" the keys on your phone.
I could see this being useful on a tablet, but a phone keyboard is much too small to make regular typing an efficient way to type anyways.
I just realized we are all using Windows 8 already.
Prepare to be "immersed" and press F11.
I think it's slightly easier to wipe off a phone screen on your pant leg than it is a 20 inch monitor.

I know it was a joke I was just throwing in a real world experience where I actually had to do that.
Holding down the power button is equivalent to pulling the plug in newer computers.

Sprint seems to be doing fine. And are we already forgetting that Verizon just recently picked up the iPhone?
As far as I know Verizon was still more popular than AT&T even before they had the iPhone.
