Well, I agree with you... in theory. It is perfectly possible for her to become 'more human-like' but unfortunatly, the eyes of the world are still on the waifs who can't seem to keep their food down.
Me, I am all about curves, I like them on my women just as much as my cars, stereos, computers... i'm just curvy! lol
I noticed this past weekend that I had been playing B&W way too much when I was gesturing rather than doing things... but it was mostly that I saw everything in the 'real' world in a manner close to the B&W interface... I thought I was a hand for a moment.
But what really scared me was when I noticed something new, I made a face and pointed at it! Not to mention I was starting to take on other similar attributes of my creature! ACK!
Sounds like to me they are looking for a way to revamp the good 'ol Regan project by the name of Star Wars. Get those satellites up there as quick as possible... and hey, while we are cluttering up the skyways, let's put some low-orbit fighters that just sit in orbit, waiting for the chance to wax an opponent. Blach!
Hey, if they want to pay for bandwidth, that's fine... but if not (which is given) fsck'em!
Eveything is fine, with the exception of the hardware part (which was going on for a long time till Linux came along). I don't have to use Windows at home, at work on the other hand... maybe I can oneday write a good Novel Netware 5 Client... and I then I wouldn't have to use it here! Blech!
I'm lost, why is it that you say that no facts have been voiced? Do you honestly think that the goobs who get the final version is going to know about editing the registry? Do you think even if they knew that they wouldn't totally fsck up their system? Come on man. And lastly, let's not forget that wonderful privacy killer.NET that will be spying on what music you are listening to... I'm not Microsoft bashing, whatever you think... I am bashing a nameless corporation that is sucking the lifeblood dry from the people of the world. Sort of like Americans have done to Communists for decades. So get off your high horse. Say what you have to say and step down.
As a side note, Napster and other music(specifically) sharing programs have become so widely used is for two reasons...
First off, you could find just about anything... I used it for collecting music for an essay I was writing
Second, it was on the news! Even in the backwoods, Grandma and Grandpa knew that Napster existed, and depending on the spin that the news reports put on it at the time, they wanted a piece of the action!
Please, continue.
But hey, you can burn those evil mp3's using their software! Who cares if you can't listen to it while it is an mp3... just convert and burn... the listen to it as cda!
What a crock.
I work at a university library as a 'technical specialist' (gloified technician), and recently sat in on a meeting involving how libraries are(and should be) archiving data via digital media. The long-run case is simply this: digital media saves space, but keeping up with a good five year plan keeps the data available, yet is expensive.
Basically, the five year plan means rotating the data from one media type to a new media type... waiting every five years. Although computers move from day to day, the method of data storage and retrieval remain approx. the same within a five year period. As long as the data is updated every five years or so, the data are always available. The price of keeping the data in this state of never-ending movement would be somewhat static, as once a new method of storage comes of age, and is a standard, it is pretty cheap. The real price comes from manpower. Which... could be solved by spending some time developing a software system that could be altered, on command, to handle the new media... Enter Linux!
I could keep going on and on about this beautiful system, but I grow weary of trying to remember all of this stuff, and typing it, and looking like I am still working on something useful!;)
YAGP(Yet Another Good Point)
I can't get anything posted either... no matter how good the stuff is, no matter how pertinent the subject matter. So it seems that the majority of the folks here have to just bitch and moan... ie: trolling. I know this is off topic of the article... but hey, I don't give a damn about anime yet I have to hear about it like it is news for nerds... stuff that matters? Sometimes you just have to wonder.
Miller states serveral times that he feels that unless there is one unified desktop environment that Linux on the desktop will fail. Why is that again? I have been using StarOffice for much longer than I have KDE _or_ GNOME and you know what... it looks the same and acts the same no matter what. Could it be that someone has been reading/. and has noticed (even though the holy war seems to be at a stalemate) that KDE vs GNOME has been an inflammatory subject for some time? Could it be that seed of doubt that we are always dodging? Could be... and I am sure it is. I think this guy is defenately an M$ employee. He obviously fears all things not M$, so he looks into them... finds out what we bicker about the most and exploits them. A true strategist. But, let's keep in mind who can discern facts from opinions, and let's also remember what camp this fellow is coming from. Who cares what his background is, or where he has been. We all know where he is now. We all know we can't bow down to "his" speculations.
Well, your first point is one well made, but it does have a flaw... there are profs who _do_ make up a new test everytime.
Your seccond point is correct in every sense. However, there are a whole lot of profs that need a little kick in the pants to get back to educating and not trying to be PC.
Your third point is insanely off the mark. Do you honestly think that any court would listen to some crap like that?
Your final point is mote, as the whole point of this is so that people can access this information from anywhere. Minorities be damned, they can go to the public libraries and print this stuff out. What minorities are there anyway? I sure don't see any.
I am a misanthropist and a pessimist, yet I cannot see the bad in this idea. I am interested in how you came to your conclusions.
I have been teaching myself computer science for a while now, using the internet as my source for material. I have usually stuck to different universities' courseware that just happened to be found by a quick google search. And now this! Hurrah for me!
Unfortunatly, there are more corporations with a never ending supply of downright dirty greed tactics that I don't think that anything is going to be 'revealed'.
link It was revealed a nice long time ago. For instance, let's talk about John D. Rockafeller. The man had control of the National Gaurd! Hell, he had control of the goverment! So, what did he do to make him go down in history as a 'good' man? He donates sh17loads of $$ to different 'causes' (which might I add, he made profits on quite well, as have his progeny). We see the same thing happening with Gates. But wait, it is still only a minor fraction of the wealth they have earned (read stolen) from the customers (read victims) who have purchaced (read strong armed) their (again, read stolen) merchandise. Although Capitolism sucks, there has been no likly alternative introduced. Ever. Capitolism has been the only 'way of living' ever to appeal to the more natural way of life. If you can find a better solution, I can can you an idealist who doesn't bother to take into account that man is an animal, and just as any other animal will kill his own to keep ahead.
I don't care what anybody says. This whole recession thing is a bunch of whooey. Companies feel they aren't making enough money. So, they lay people off. Why? Because that is what happens in a recession. But wait, how does the effect cause the effect? Well, I suppose there is a real life implementatoin/usage for recursion after all! I do think in all seriousness that this recession stuff is a bunch of crap. Why is it that inflation happens? Because companies want to make more money at a faster rate. Why does intrest rates go up? Because the fed says so. Why does the fed say so? Because the businesses are laying off workers. Why would the fed raise interest rates if people are being laid off? Well, that is because they want the economy to go down for a while, so that the next guy in office can look good, while the current victim(official) has to waste time wrestling with the economy.
Well, interestingly enough, we don't use any of the NetInfo stuff for the same reason. I spoke to an Apple rep and this was the response I got (over a year ago). They basically said that I could do one of three things: purchase manuals, get an Apple Certified Technician(TM), or become an ACT(TM). I simply said... "Listen, we paid extra to get the AppleCare, so I better get some assistance." Guess what. We are still not using NetInfo. All we are using is Apple File Services. It is run via Apache in a java applet(encrypted). Heck, the web interface is much easier to use than the blooming "Network Assistant." I hate those things just like I hate wizards (that aren't Gandalf the White that is... hehe)
We have been running OS X Server here were I work link for a few months(file server for ye ol' G4's/G3's) and it is great. I can bolt it down like any of my Linux/*BSD boxes, and I can control it with the 'ease' of a Macincrap. I have only used the workstation OS X once or twice, and all I can say is... too much eyecandy! It is pretty and all, but how is that stuff going to increase productivity? I'm sticking to the monitor off server version... I'll keep on sshing in, or using the nifty web-based java-encrypted controls!
Viva La Opera!
Seriously, I have been using the bannerware version for a few months now on my winders boxen at work, and on my Linux boxen at home (swapping between that and Konqueror). It's not open source like most of us would want it, but I'll tell you what, it is the best work I have seen in a long time. Hell, these guys not only know that their goods are better, they brag! Right click on a page, go to the Frame menu and validate that HTML! Good stuff guys... really. Now, let's start talking about the price, I'll pay $20(US) but I don't know about $40(US). Bring it down and I'm sure that a bunch of folks would hop on the opera bandwagon... Oh, and don't go the way of Netscape and add a mailer and an instant messaging system(ICQ). We don't want to integrate everything. Make a killer app. Then another. Again, you folks really should give Opera a try.
Well, I think what they are trying to avoid is having to produce hardware... and the actual selling and distrobution of said hardware. Have you looked for an Amiga dealer in the US lately... pretty sparse I can tell you that much.
Funny, I don't recall ever reading about ArsTechnica... I remember ArsDigita ;)
I guess there are just too many Ars* out there
This is a troll...
How was the post above this offtopic?
Ban bad moderation!

Damn... and here I was thinking that my doodoo, er VooDoo 3 was going to last me a few more months! ;)

Wow, so wisdom does come with a low uid! hehe
This is my simi-troll for the day.
