  1. Re:This isn't an Android problem on Many More Android Apps Leaking User Data · · Score: 1

on iOS the rules of getting accepted to the app store include a rule that goes something like this "if you're app advertises something and does something else it will get rejected." this practically covers things like fart apps that send text messages, or gets access to your private info.

IIRC Apple were either rejecting or frowning upon apps that just use your location for advertising.

how effective is that? I don't know, but I haven't read of any apps in the App store that do any of that stuff, and if there are a few that manage to slip threw and news gets out about them, they will get pulled and their developer will likely get banned from the App store.

well the previous iPhones had a camera and the iPod Touch didn't, the new iPhone 4 has a better screen and better camera, also it's built differently using different more expensive techniques. Also I am not sure of the numbers but maybe the iPod Touch benefits more from economies of scale?

It also might be licenses they have to pay for the chips and technology?

those are most likely subsidised prices with a mandatory 18-24 month contract depending on your carrier.

a factory unlocked available in many countries but not the US iPhone with no contract costs around $500-$700 depending on which model you want. almost every other smart phone will cost around that much with no contract.

this is a conversation I had with someone owning an HTC Magic:

HTC Magic Owner: Hey when well I able to get this new OS on my phone? him talking about froyo

Me: wait till HTC releases it, let me check if it's available. Nope sorry HTC won't support it on your phone but it's available from third parties.

HTC Magic Owner: WHAT?! I BOUGHT THIS PHONE LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND THEY WON'T SUPPORT IT!

Me: It's ok you can get it from third parties, I can install it for you.

HTC Magic Owner: THE PHONE IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD!

Now with the iPhone and Apple it's much simpler to the average Joe, I assume the phone is guaranteed to be supported for the duration of the contract, the iPhone 3g was released in july 2008 and I assume there are still many which are still under contract, true iOS4 runs like crap and many features are not available some are claimed to be due to hardware, and some reports of speed improvements with iOS4.1.

it's easier for most consumers, they will sacrifice some features that they deem unnecessary for ease of use.

I don't think many even understand what rooting is and many more don't want to go through the trouble. I think Android has this as a weak point, many vendors releasing different hardware with different OS versions, it's also makes it harder for developers.

everyone choses what's best for them at the end I guess.

yeah in my 3rd world country 21Mbps is labeled as 3.5G, the gov regulators stopped one carrier from advertising those speeds because they are not widely available in all areas, but 7Mbps is still advertised.

True 4G is just starting to be tested and was shown off in some expos last year, but won't wide see deployment till 2H11.

I think carriers in North America should get some sort of government regulation, it's not good for the consumer to buy a phone and travel across the continent and find that their device is not compatible with the carrier in that area, which is something I experienced when I traveled there last summer and I only travelled to two neighbouring states.

    sorry for going off topic.

I had the same problems at school, I was a shy nerdy kid not good in sports, and I hated going to school, I got stomach aches and nausea when ever I went there at around 5th grade, I was technically home schooled for a semester, the problem was that the doctors kept doing the wrong tests, it was all psychological and it was just stress and a bit of depression. The other problem was that my parents wouldn't listen to the real problems, not that I blame them they just didn't know better, it all started when I was in third grade and when I was switched to a different class from my old friends, it just went down hill from there... I started grinding my teeth, got TMJ and migraines it wasn't nice, when I told my parents that my jaw seems a bit misaligned they wouldn't listen, no one listened. It's hard being a parent, but I think parents should stop blaming everyone and everything else for their kids' problems and start taking some responsibility.

A lot of businesses are started with the intent of having them bought off by bigger companies. consumers may never have heard of company Y and their product if it wasn't for X buying them off. or they may not have the resources and expertise to market, build and ship it cheap enough for it to be available to everyone and investors don't want to pump money in Y company because it's too risky, and BTW that's also selling the company or at least part of it, the investor will still call any products from Y theirs. With software it's the version number and for a lot of users version numbers count, even if they don't know what features it has, they just use the version number as a metric.
