I've been involved in a car accident case for two and a half years now. We will have our pre-trial meeting with the judge this coming March. Then our trial date will be set. ___
That depends on the size of the company, the redundancy of skills, and the ability level of management. It is extremely possible for a situation like this to happen. For example, if the standard troubleshooting procedure is "Ask Larry, he'll fix it!", then Larry's departure could sink a small business before it could find replacements for everything he had been doing.
Situations like this are usually a result of bad management, however. ___
You can't really avoid guzzling lots of electricity if you have to get an electric car. The same people who won't allow power plants to be built want that to be the law. As was said before, TANSTAAFL.
<aside> I'm all for (non-mandated) electric cars, but if you want them you need power plants. ___
Good idea, and it could be used with all expensive software on that OS. You could accumulate a hefty deck of smart cards.
Unfortunately (from MS's POV) you could lend your smart card to a friend, to let him/her install it, unless you had to swipe the card each time the software was used/booted. And that could get annoying, especially if you wanted to keep your cards in a safe place.
It also would be extremely crackable, but that's true of most such schemes. ___
How much are you paying for the state employees who enforce the anti-stupidity laws? You don't think cops could be spending their time more efficiently than enforcing seatbelt laws? Sometimes they even have roadblocks to check for seatbelts - not that you couldn't put the belt on while waiting in line... ___
If I see a movie on videotape (or DVD) that I feel is good enough to inspire 'loyalty' to the filmmaker, then I will see it in the theater if given the chance. I realize I am a statistical set of one, so YMMV.

'Chinese' is a nationality - there are several languages in China. And no language can be a 'world language of choice' if it is only used within one country. China is far too insular to affect world culture at present, and France seems to have a similar attitude.
I wasn't the original person who said that trying to 'protect' yourself against English was a bad idea, but I will say that it is somewhat true. Not because English-speakers will attack you (I realize you were being facetious), or because English is inherently better in some way, but because the efforts to 'protect' yourself from it are harmful and dangerous. In fact, they are only necessary because the populace doesn't agree with them. Otherwise most people would naturally behave the way the legislation dictates, and unlike many other crimes, this is one that has no victims (even from the point of view of the language purists) if the number of people who commit it isn't signifigant. ___
Wouldn't it suck to be a high level fighter, and lose a swordfight to some thief who happened to have what must have been a [+10 experience level/class change to warrior] magic sword... ___
I pretty much agree with your analysis (though I still hold out hope for LOTR), but have one thing to add: What a crappy, awful, saccharine, annoying, cheap, deflating, and all-around nonsensical ending! ___
So we should have one vote per acre owned? One vote per county? The only thing that really seems fair to me is one vote per person, and we don't even have that. ___
Eliminating the electoral college doesn't give the big states more of a voice, it simply recognizes that there is no particular reason the states should have a say in the presidency at all. The bias may shift to favor highly populated demographic groups, but states would be irrelevant. Candidates would make their disingenuous promises to the largest number of people they could afford. Currently they concentrate on the arbitrary group of highly populated and contested states, while ignoring the people in states that are "certain wins" or "certain losses." I'm speaking from Washington, D.C., where my vote "counts" more than anyone elses in terms of electors per population, but as far as I could tell, Nader was the only candidate to do any campaigning here, since both major parties considered DC a guaranteed Democratic win (correctly). ___
Functionality is a relative term, but all that keeps me on MS is the variety of games. Hopefully, that will change eventually.

That's part of the power of English. The English equivalent to 'deja vu' is 'deja vu.'
I'm not sure what it would have been before we appropriated that phrase, though.
