Well, I live in Oregon, and there's an officemax in my town. Think I'll go buy a cd burner, a new harddrive, and something else if that doesnt total 400 dollars. I'll try to make it cost like $405. So I pay 5 dollars at the store, cancel my damn msn contract, and get all that cool stuff for 5 bucks. If that isn't 100% pure sweetness, then I just don't know what is.:)
i installed it cuz i have a cable modem, and os9. i have taken it out of my system folder, cuz a) i realized i dont really care about the issue and b) it was messing shit up.
i was just telling people what i had discovered myself and from other reports at macnn..
Ok, listen up people, I have a mac, I got the patch, and it didn't do anything but mess up my networking. There's a report over at macnn about a bunch of people who wrote in to macnn with the problems they had and how they went away once they disabled the patch. Same thing happened to me.
I admit that it IS impressive that apple got that patch up so damn fast (like a few hours after the slashdot post), but something is screwy with it. Hopefully 1.1 will come out soon (it was 1.0).
Anyways, so if you have a mac, dont install it. You'll have problems.
Yah, what the hell is up with these colors for this article? Red and yellow? I dont understand... did someone seriously mess something up on the slashdot side, or is this on purpose?
Wired was talking about how now it's going to be "so easy" to make vcd's from dvd's. Does this matter? The quality of vcd's is never that high anyways, so you might as well just copy them straight from a vhs tape. You get the same result. Right?
the practice did not violate consumer privacy because the information was not being stored by RealNetworks
This cant be true. Why would they bother having the program send them info on what the user is listening to if it's not stored somewhere on their computers? What, do they have someone over at realnetworks who watches the info come in? "Hm, this person is listening to nine inch nails. Hm, this person is listening to NOFX." Real can be so annoying sometimes.
"The second issue is that PNG support in web browsers isn't perfect, and from what I've seen, animated PNG support is nonexistant... is it really feasible to do this now ? Imagine the logical extreme... java/javascript ad banners... AAARRARARRRGH !!!!! "
Hey, if you think about it, that could be great. For certain people who dislike some of the things javascript can do, and who hate java cuz it's really, really slow, you can just turn off the support in your browser.. no more banners!! yippee!!!:)
I remember a few months ago or so, there was a slashdot poll asking whether or not your browswer supported png, and I remember if not the majority, then atleast a big chunk of people's browsers weren't compatible. I remember comments also of people saying that their broswer support was kind of wack.
Besides, didn't the people say they werent going to press charges anyways?
What if, say, in ten years, musicians start releasing music that is created by a computer but they claim it to be their own. Supposing a computer could do this (ten years seems pretty reasonable), what's going to happen? Or maybe even just get some help from the computer to make your work that much better. You certainly wouldn't be able to call anyone a musical genius.
Lookin solid. Having the "best" one would be really cool.. 400 g3, 128 ram, dvd, 13 gig hd, and the "graphite" case of the g4's.. Plus it's supposedly lighter and smaller now. I dont know about you folks, but I would love to have one of them:) Let's just hope they can deliver the things on schedule.. when are they supposed to arrive anyways?
so why hasnt anyone posted in here yet? Do you all just have nothing to say or what? This is the first time I've seen 0 comments for an article that is atleast a few hours old.:)
I don't really remember the specs for sony's robodog (what was his name?), but this thing sounds, um, very superior. Besides, I dont think sony's dog could "learn", right?
Well, one more step towards towards terminator 2:)
What in christ's name is Sony thinking? They really should not have the right to do this, especially if the artist leaves Sony either to go somewhere else or just because they realized that the record industry is the biggest bunch of greedy @&%*@#$'s in the entire world.
Seriously, signing a contract with any major record company these days is suicide. You get less than 10% of cd sale profits, and you're the one making the product. How fair is that?
I really like the idea of "averages"

I think this guy has a good point. You should only have to spend one moderator point and rate the comment anywhere from -1 to +5... then all the moderation that has been done to this comment is averaged, and that is the final moderation. Out of all the comments I have read so far on here, this one seems that it would work the best overall. Some of the other comments have been interesting but they have their problems.
Look, we all know that Sega has ferked up in the past, and a lot of people have lost faith in them over the years. But seriously now, the Dreamcast is going to be a solid product. Yah, when the psx2 comes out, its gonna blow DC out of the water. But since that's not happening for atleast another year, Sega is going to have the best system out on the market for a while.
They've also got the best game line up for a system launch, ever. Plus the system is only 200, at launch, which hasn't happened since the super nintendo.
I wish people would just stop dogging Sega so hard because they're really trying hard this time around, and Sega as a company makes some of the best arcade games around. The last thing I want to do is see them die.
I don't really post very often, but I've always wondered how you know when you get those 3 days to moderate. Do you get email about it? Or does it show up as an option suddenly when you're reading comments? Just curious, any replies would be appreciated.
If the government actually decided to do this, I imagine their system would be one the biggest targets for crackers in history. Seriously, that would be one of the ultimate accomplishments, changing votes. It could also turn out to be really funny. Someone like Ross Perot could pay someone millions and millions of dollars, and we'd have the first midget president:)
yah, so wired is definitely not what it used to be. But I have to admit that I really like the wired news site (wired.com/news). It still mixes politics, culture and technology into one, and I think they do a good job. But I hear differently from other people..
allright, a lot of you are pissing me off because of your anti-apple attitude, but that doesn't matter. what matters is that everyone suddenly thinks osx is completely screwed because of this one, hard to reproduce, stupid bug. hey, if this really was such a big deal and really affected osx, it would've been discovered a long long time ago. but osx has been out for, what, atleast 3 months? and ONE person has JUST discovered it?? yah, gee, this bug is realyl going to screw everyone over if it happened by chance to one person in 3 months. yah, apple's totally screwed. they're going down the toilet. oh man this is the end!!!!!!
Umm, this is possible. edit your preferences and add for the sideboxs "Slashdot Stats" (or something like that)... its one of the checkboxes... it gives stats for each hour of the last 24 (as well as the total) and the total for the day before (not necesarily the last 24 hours).. all thanks to rob malda.:)
even if the users are at fault, who cares, it doesnt matter. Everyone knows Microsoft is at fault for making piece of freakin shit products, and i think they are the ones that should be thrown in jail for being such a bunch of dumb asses.
