  1. barn door mount on Equatorial Mounts For Budget Astrophotography? · · Score: 5, Informative

It depends on how you are wanting to do your astrophotography. If it is a camera alone then you might consider making and/or getting a barn door mount.

They are simple and work well.

If you are considering astrophotography through a telescope then you'll have to have some sort of eq mount for the scope and then the prices do rise. But since you seem to be interested in photographing the Perseids then I doubt this is the case. The wide field available with just a camera would be the way to go.

  2. Re:Not just cost, but optics on Why LEDs Don't Beat CFLs Even Though They Should · · Score: 2, Informative

Diodes have a very sharp turn on, so from off to full on is a very small voltage change. To alter the brightness of an LED you pulse them at some cycle rate. For dim you turn them on for a little bit every cycle and for bright you turn the on for most of the cycle. That's pulse width modulation. If you don't use a high enough frequency then you can see the flicker especially when your eyes scan across them.

Trademarks are supposed to register a word in reference to a specific good or service. This one seems to refer to masquerade costumes and the word superhero.

If you go to the Trademark Website, http://www.uspto.gov/main/trademarks.htm you can search trademarks. Searching for "superhero" and "super hero" yields quite a few hits. I didn't check all of them to see if any refer to using the word in a comic book.

I belive that resupplying a Moon base would be as expensive as resupplying a Mars base and could even be more. The main cost is boosting mass out of Earth's gravity well which you have to do in both cases. To land something on the moon you also have to carry propellant to decelerate to rest on the surface. Landing something on Mars you at least have the option of aerobraking, reducing the amount of mass that needs to be sent. For supplies, cost would have little to do with flight times.
