Bullshit. For almost 12 billion dollars, you should have an army of accountants and lawyers going over every book with a fine-toothed comb. The whole point of due diligence is that YOU DON'T TAKE THE WORD OF THE COMPANY YOU'RE BUYING.
No, actually, I don't think things would have been different under Gore. I have zero faith in either of the two major candidates. I had zero faith in both Bush and Gore, as well. We know how Bush turned out. Speculating on how Gore would have behaved is irrelevant, but I don't believe he would have been any different. It doesn't matter who the President is, every year we lose one or more of the three things I mentioned in my OP. Is that a cynical and pessimistic attitude to take? Of course. But it's one born of long experience. The joke about lying politicians is as old as politics. Politicians will say absolutely anything to get elected and none of it has the slightest bearing on how they will perform their job. The new role of government in the 21st Century is to feed itself and to keep itself in power. Serving the People comes in at a distant 20th or 50th or 100th.
Our choice this year is either John Jackson or Jack Johnson. Two moderates who won't do anything substantial except work to erode more of our freedom, privacy, and wallets.
Just like almost anything else in life, there are plenty of legitimate reasons for spoofing Caller-ID, but it's ruined by the people who abuse it for illegal purposes.
You seem very angry about some guy who just wants to tinker with some old piece of electronics. Did a digital photo frame once fall on your head or something?
Windows (and, by extension, desktop computing) is irrelevant because people have iPads. Seriously, this guy is completely out of touch. It may be great for the CEO who never has to do any real work with a computer, but an iPad is wholly unsuitable for anything other than Angry Birds and checking your Facebook. It's a media consumption device, not something used to create and manipulate spreadsheets. The fact that "Windows is irrelevant" because of "the cloud" speaks to his complete misunderstanding of the technology.
Did you even read the article? They talked a lot about attack vectors... They also went on to tell people how they can protect themselves.
I'd assume downloading an antivirus for your phone or reformatting it would be the best option.
They didn't talk about attack vectors AT ALL, except in the vaguest of terms. They talked about generalities that apply to any platform, not to this specific virus. It's the equivalent of saying "don't set your drink down in a crowded bar." Yes, it's good advice, but at the same time almost completely worthless to put into a press release.
No information about attack vectors (such as compromised apps), how to tell if you're infected, what to do if you think you're infected, etc. Par for the course.
Yes, there's the usual hacking, cracking, identity theft and spamming, which most of us can agree should be illegal.
I can't agree on that at all, and especially with overly-broad terms like "hacking" (or even "spamming"). What is "spamming"? Is that any UCE or is that just penis enlargement pills? Because there's lots and lots and LOTS of perfectly legitimate commercial e-mail that one person would consider spam and another person doesn't.
Hacking? What is hacking? Security research? Breaking into systems? What about altering systems that I own to do things they weren't intended to do?
You don't speak for me, Forbes, so your blatant editorializing is not appreciated.
According to the OP, it has multi-monitor support, but things like actually remembering the configuration you apply is inexplicably beyond its capabilities.
I was confused by the whole "refuses to remember or restore configurations" thing. WTF? This is 2012. EVERYONE has multiple monitors. How is it in any way acceptable that the OS refuses to remember your monitor config?
The country is big, with lots of low density areas. Thousands of miles of cable don't just pay for and install themselves, and the incentive to cover a lightly inhabited area just isn't there.
There were huge federal subsidies given to the telcos to build out internet infrastructure for exactly that reason. It was stolen and used to line the pockets of the telco investors instead.
Here is a hint to go with your attention deficit disorder... It's just like LOTR's but with a more butchered storyline.
You completely missed the point. Also, I'm not sure why you are accusing me of having ADD. Not wanting to have a film spoiled by trailers means I have a mental disorder?
I can't imagine a trailer for The Hobbit contains spoilers for anyone on/.
Of course it'll have spoilers. While the story is obviously well-known, there are also sets, costumes, music, acting, and all of the other things that go into a finished film. If all I were interested in was the story, I would just read the book. I don't even like seeing the still photos (for ANY film), because I want to approach the film fresh and be surprised and amazed by everything on the screen.
Laws are for me and you, not for big corporations, police, or governments.
Voyager is moving at 10.5 miles per second. They gotta catch it first.
Ah yes, "Hot Mouth Disease" can be pretty awful.

Newsflash: Students usually cheat because they DON'T have a strong grasp of the task.
Yet another reason on a very long list of reasons to not buy Sony products.

If only there were some way to selectively allow or deny permissions to an app instead of the all-or-nothing approach currently employed.

I thought this was Slashdot. This should be the home of people hacking devices and breathing new life into them.
I am a HUGE Star Trek nerd, but I always got grossed out when that dude's dad cut his hand off at the end of the second movie.

There's no efficiency improvement or human betterment that can't be completely destroyed by bureaucracy and greed.

Put up the IR deer cams. Hide them because they will steal them.
I've had tremendous success by putting them inside bird houses. No one steals birdhouses, or even thinks twice when they see one 15 feet up a tree.

Citation needed. You won't find the law, though, because it doesn't exist.
