I guess it doesn't really matter, AD&D has been screwed up since they started making all those stupid player supplements in the second edition.
AD&D has been screwed up ever since its inception. I remember when I first started playing; I couldn't understand the thinking behind some of the rules they were using. But I guess I just pushed all that to the background, because I just wanted to play and have fun.
When the second edition came out, I was so used to the problems of the 1st edition, that the 2nd edition seemed so messed up!! Why on earth did they have to have 40 different books just on RULES?!?!?!?
ACK!!! What ever happened to just having fun?
The thing that kills me is when I started playing with a new group of guys, they loved all those new rules and extras. They were the ones that would argue with you over the simplest things; we spent hours and hours on the packings our characters would take. Bloody hell!!
Game balance was thrown out the window and my games degenerated into arguments as to why particular spells and 'kits' could not be allowed.
Whenever that happened in my groups, I'd always say, "'Cause I'm the DM, and I have final say in all matters. End of discussion!"
If they continued to make matters difficult, then their charactes would meet a horrible end. And I'm NOT a fan of 'rerolling new characters' every time yours gets killed. We had one guy rerolling every week!!
The US may think of themselves as the center of the world, but sometimes that just boils down to ignorance (or arrogance;-)...
What you perceive as arrogance or ignorance is neither, usually. Many times people in the U.S. fail to take a world view of things like this because it doesn't matter. SuSE may be very, very popular in Europe - but it's a bit player here. It really doesn't matter one damn bit to someone in St. Louis or Seattle how popular a brand is in Berlin or Tokyo if it's marginal here.
OT: I agree. I can never figure out why people in other countries always need to point these things out. Not only should somone in St. Louis or Seattle NOT HAVE TO care about issues (like this) in Berlin or Tokyo, but NEITHER should people in Berlin or Tokyo HAVE TO care about issues (like this) in St. Louis or Seattle.
There are more dial-up users than any other connectivity in the world. Just because you live in one of the few countries that can afford broadband doesn't make you the majority of users.
The real world IS dial-up, sorry.

Combine sexuality with visual stimulation, you can very quickly become addicted. What happens with addicts? They start upping their dosage
I'm afraid you don't understand addiction. Addiction occurs when something you desire is then taken away from you, and you crave for it once again. It's the same thing drug pushers do; they give a little of the product away for free, and then they start charging for it afterwards.
As far as I am concerned, I've seem far more problems with the lack of porn than those who've view it. Represses sexuality is far worse than unrepressed.
Plenty, I say. The bigger the company the bigger the cost. The company I work for has paid well over 10's of thousands of dollars on Anti-virus licenses alone!!!
Not to mention the mandatory email outages when a new macro virus hits, and who knows what background costs that affects...
While I agree with you on most of this, I doubt that in 30 years we would have advanced that far. Moreover I believe that we'd be asking "Why'd we switch from radio to light?", while the aliens will be asking:
Why are they not using Light?
Why are they not using quantum particles?
Why are they not using antimatter?
Why are they not using quark synthesis?
Why are they not using harnessed 'Black-hole' energy?
which civillization will be so stupid to use light to cummunicate in open space??!!
We don't (and we humans are quite stupid).
Of which you are a good example of (stupid, that is). We humans DO use light as a form of communication. We need light to see, and to help form words on paper, by the act of absorption and reflection...
I was going to buy the CD for BareNaked Ladies, but I wanted to hear what they sounded like first. Guess I can't now. They'll just lose my business.
I can't see why any band with a brain would do anything to stop another medium of distribution. For christsakes, the more people hear them, the more people will go to their shows, the more people will buy their shirts, the more they'll tell others about them, the more money they make in the end.
Why would they stop this at the source? no brains.

There are computer schools popping up everywhere around where I live, and MOST of the people going there don't know much about computers, let alone coding.
The truth is, alot of these people are getting into it NOW, because they think they can make alot of money at it.
The schools here are flooding the market with Construction-Worker-Types that don't know diddly about computers; giving them intro courses to coding (C, C++, COBOL, etc) and they actually they can go out into the world and keep a job as a programmer!!!

Its stuff like this that shows the model, of selling the product, needs to change somehow. Sure keep the honor system around for the first chapter (and maybe some little juicy stuff in the middle), but after paying for the book, allow the purchasers the ability to get the rest of the book. This way if someone likes it, they GET the book in its entirety.
Also, Stephen King can keep selling his products like this for years to come. "Carrie" and "Christine" have been around for 20 years now, and people are still going out and buying the books. Think of "The Plant" being available like this for 20 years, and how much money it will generate for him, year after year...
...boggles the mind.

That's why I didn't dl the book, because I didn't want to pay for it, and the last stuff he's written is shit.
Why not DL the book and see if you like it. If you do go back and pay, if not quit reading and don't DL the next chapter. It's the same thing with going to a book store; you can stand there and read the first chapter or so, and see whether or not this story is worth your while. If you like it you pay for it, if not then you put it back...
I think Orrin Hatch is right, we need legislation defining what is and isn't fair use
Fine, but how do you decide what is and isn't fair use? There are a crap-load of people in this country, let alone the whole world. How can all of these different opinions be weighed and measured to give the 'fairest' legislation available.
Without this a few key players will have the ability to lock in and control critical parts of society.
It sounds like you've already given Orrin Hatch some control already. How can you say that he won't decide things that fits perfectly in his pretty-little world? *Never* will the few (polititians) be able to properly represent the many (the people).
Its like most other things, it'll probably react like a sine wave; people buying things up and not thinking -to- noone buying anything because of the greed of corporations.
People know when things are hokey or not. They won't let things get too far out of control. When corporations see that they can't attract a base of consumers for their product, they'll change their business model to something looser and more attractive.

First off, I can't see why that link has anything to support QWERTY.
Secondly, If someone were go learn DVORAK growing up, they would be better/faster typers than learning QWERTY growing up.
The fact is, they designed QWERTY to be slower because back in "the day" people were typing faster that the typewriters could process the info, and they kept jamming. QWERTY forced the users to type slower.
Sorry, IMO Princess Mononoke was no great stretch of new animation from Akira.
However, the WORST Japanese Animation is only steps behind anything American Animation can dream up. The good thing about TAE was the 3D and sound. Too bad they didn't do the characters in 3D as well.
