I am sick and tired of trying to give a poor explaination as to why a document; rtf, doc, wps, etc, will not open with the copy of the MS app they happen to be using because it was saved with the app on their previous system.
Heh. We keep a Mac in each of the PC labs, because it can open some of the weirder Works files from pc's and then save them in Office format files. So fucking weird.
Do you really think that all these tanks, mines, fighter planes, etc. are just icons on a screen that the government totally controls, like in War Craft or Civ? These bits of technology only do what they do, thanks to people. Most of the people live right around you. Surely you have some veterans in your own family. Ask them what they'd do if given the order to fire or nuke some town in the U.S. There's a reason we have people in the circuit as opposed to centralized control of military hardware (people are cheaper and work better than computers, too).
And the people in the First Amendment are different than the people in the Second Amendment?
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
After all, not calling it a draft has worked pretty well with the Reserves and the National Guard so far.
As a former Reserve member, who went to war in Saudi in Desert Storm, when you take that oath, you know that there is the possibility that you will be sent to some god-forsaken bit of land to have total strangers try to make lots of holes in your body.
Hard to call it a draft when it's a volunteer force. I know why I volunteered and what I got out of the deal. When it becomes a requirement for all able bodied young (the old sacrifice their young, ya' know) to 'participate' in some kind of 'federal service' program (not the military, just 'service'), then you might want to think of heading Mexico or where ever.
Air Strip One has always been at war with Eurasia.
At another point, so was German. They considered a lot of things back then. Now days, I don't think much consideration is given at all. Just charge through the china shop bullshit!
It is desire to learn or bypass stuff like tech talk, legal speak and the dreaded insurance crap. Even if I'll never have a use for most tech talk (or sci stuff), it's still interesting. Legal speak and insurance crap just bore the hell out of me.
"Don't tell me how to decode legal speak, just tell me what it means! Legal speak does not trump GIS boobie search!"
I had A/UX running on my Quadra 650. Was really cool, seeing how well Apple put a Finder on top of Unix. When OS X came along, it seemed eerily familiar.
Actually, they're fairly hard metal that's struck, You need some decent tool steel and a good carver as well as a nice heavy stamping machine to do a decent coin. Even in Roman days, while the blanks were cast, they always struck them. Produced a sharper image and was more difficult to counter fit.
Since US paper currency is all the same size, it's easy to bleach an actual dollar bill and then reprint it up as a higher denomination. Sure there are new bills with all sorts of security stuff but plenty of older bills floating around. People don' look twice at them.
At least we Americans will still enjoy the largest amount of freedom 'in' the US. No one will be asking for our papers when we travel. In your face, facist Canada!
Um...root is disabled by default on OSX. He likely didn't use sudo. Even though he no doubt was logged in as an admin user, sudo is still needed. This fooled a CS teacher at my school, who has started switching from Sun and SGI to Macs.
No, but I have spent several thousands of dollars over the last 20 years on cd's. Ripped cd's make up the bulk of my iTunes collection. I've only purchased 99 songs over the last year or so.
Was really impressed when the writers of Third Rock From the Sun we're able to tie in the two guys who'd starred in the this story in such a humorous way. Sad thing is that I was the only one of my roommates who got the joke. As soon as Shatner said something about his trip, I was ROTFLMAO, for real. Roommates thought I'd totally lost it again (not unknown for me, back then). I really need to get that 30 second clip or so of it. One of the cleverest self referential tv comedy I've ever seen.
Way too expensive. When I can get a dual 3MHz G5 w/4 GB RAM, for $500.00, then I *might* consider it.

Gun toting Liberals?!!! Anarchy! Quick, Mabel, into the Hummer. We'll hide out at the country club!

Fuck, I'm starting to hate slashbot more and more each day.
In Soviet Russia, Slashdot hates you less and less each night, Fuck!
You mean 4 parts gin, 1/2 part sweet vermouth and 1/2 part dry?
Hmmm...martini...
Pico rules!
That would be cool. Just nice, quiet life. Hmmm...life...arggle...drool...
...for super volcano to erupt! D'oh!

From the article, it appears that the author owns several Macs and has been using them for some time.

Hammers and rocks make my head hurt.

They could create a coin that was worth as much as a dollar. It could be called a dollar coin. That would be neat.
...some chamois and new car smell their way. Just have to build a large enough trebuchet...
