Yup, last game I bought myself was Sid Meirer's Alpha Centaur, back in '02. Now, I have picked up Spore and Baldur's Gate for child but since she got iPod Touch, she hasn't really done much gaming on her laptop.
Not to mention, goes off to war, or runs for local or state government. Sure, we'll trust you with human lives, public funds, etc. but no, we won't let you have a beer at the end of the day.
I was two months shy when they raised the drinking age in Fla (yeah, I grew up in that screwed up state) and totally sucked that, after joining the military, I was entrusted with the means to blow up a city (gotta' love SAC) but not with a beer.
'Course, a few years later, I got transferred to a base set in a dry county in North Carolina. WTF?
Yeah, had a 42" flat tube tv with edtv resolution (Akia, Aiwa? Something with an A). Nice picture but that thing was just a monster in weight/depth. Gave it away to a friend with a pick up truck, when we moved. I wasn't gonna truck it across country. Looked good with DVD's, though.
Yup. Up until last weekend, had just a 720P 26" tv in our living room (12' x 14'). DVD's looked ok on it, running through up converting dvd player. Didn't notice much difference between them and a 720P HD download (iTunes Star Trek). Once we rearranged the furniture so that the tv was on the narrow wall, realized how small tv was (couldn't read cable guide from back of room) and decided it was time to upgrade. Now have a 46" 1080p system and all our dvd's look kinda' crappy. The Star Trek download looks pretty good but I'd really like to see what a real 1080P film looks like. Only thing is, I hate disks. I prefer to rip my movies to av server and then watch from there. Haven't looked into ripping blu-ray, how large files are, and if iTunes can server it ok, not to mention Apple TV play it. May have to shift over to a Linux based media center. Or buy a player for now. Maybe that Sony 567 or whatever it is. Got a good write up in cnet.

Is Sugar Toxic?

Thinking about sugar, I wonder just how prevalent it was 500 years ago, 1000, years ago and 2000 years ago? 500 years ago, East Indies trade was just getting going and I believe that's where Europeans were introduced to sugar cane. Before that, I'm guessing folks had access to honey or fruit juice? You'd think the Romans woulda' come up with some large scale production method for sugar, if it was around back then but I've never heard of such things; just honey.
So yeah, maybe processed sugar, in it's 'pure' form is a modern invention?
Wait, you're saying that all people aren't created equal and aren't equally good at everything and that creative talent is kinda' rare? If this were true, then there'd be a lot less books coming out of fanfiction.net, not to mention all those movies deals that those youtube folks keep getting.
Ah, there's probably a million J.K. Rowling's out there, just waiting to be discovered. I mean, look at how children's literature and exploded in the last 15 years. There's so many books and series out there now, it's impossible to read them all.
Bookstores may turn into more like restaurant/bar setups. I mean, everyone makes food and has booze at home but they still go out and spend $$$ to hang out at places and be social. Smart book store owners (mostly non-chain, I'm thinking) will work this angle.
Exactly! They need to start educating kids and adults on content creation. It's not like it requires any real skills; one just has to know how to put the letters or notes down in the right order and the $$$ will flow in!
You have 2 employees making same wage. You eliminate 1, get remaining employee to increase productivity and pay them 125% now. Less money goes into regular economy (consumer spending) and more money goes into black hole at top of income (ceo bonuses/corporate profits/overseas/non-taxed/high-level investments, etc.).
Look at all these little things! So busy now! Notice how each one is useful. A lovely ballet ensues, so full of form and color. Now, think about all those people that created them. Technicians, engineers, hundreds of people, who will be able to feed their children tonight, so those children can grow up big and strong and have little teeny children of their own, and so on and so forth. Thus, adding to the great chain of life. You see, father, by causing a little destruction, I am in fact encouraging life. In reality, you and I are in the same business.
GNU HURD
Am still waiting for SMAC/X to be ported to iPad. 9" screen would be about right for a game that only runs in 800x600 on my current desktop system.

My Mom refuses to learn anything since Fortran.
'Course, if you went through and screwed in hurricane straps all over the place...
What about "pram"?
I have to push the pram-a-lot!
Will it burn?
It has a nasty stink?

We get mushroom stickers at my job. At least they're honest about things.
Dr. Dodd: Why is that toy on your head?
Chris Knight: Because, if I wear it anywhere else, it chafes.
'Fraid I have to disagree with you on that. Bourbon was made for coffee.
Um, Dancing with the Stars is on tonight. Can this be done later?

What's the problem?
