Baen's Books free e-book versions turned me on to a lot of authors I wouldn't otherwise have found. And I've spent a fair amount of money on their hard copy versions since then. Same goes for Tor.com's free e-book give away a couple years ago, when they were getting their site up and going. Downside is they're not really doing the free e-book thing anymore. Sure, I'm now a fan of Scalzi and other tor.com authors but not really sampling much new stuff from them.
At the college I worked at (third tier lib-arts school with private beach for rich 'C' ability students), the game playing on laptops started in mid-90's.
Despite how cool long swords look, I settled on a modern gladius like short sword (made from car spring). Has a nice mix of sturdy blade (diamond shaped) for thrusting and a decent edge for cutting. While no replacement for a.1911, it's a bit quieter.
You might be able to get $100 bucks for it on eBay but shipping will eat in to it. While an interesting looking case, it's limited in hard drive space and is kinda' bulky. Mac sata cards are kinda' expensive too. At best, I'd throw NetBSD on it and use it as a basic file/print server.
I'm a Mac user with stuff in storage all the way back to a 512k Mac that boots from a minix floppy, as well as a 1.25Ghz G4 tower that I'm trying to figure out what to do with.
Multi-national CEO's don't care about any one country; they've got theirs. They just need some out-of-the-way gated places so the peasants can't get to them and a few social locations to mingle with the other 10,000 or so kleptocrats and they're good.
Yup. From when I got my first 6x9 Wacom tablet, back in early 90's, have wanted a tablet display on it. At the time, I wasn't too concerned if it had to be hooked in to a parent machine but after seeing what the iPad and similar systems can do with size and weight, am really hoping for a real Wacom tablet.
Only if you coat it with instant coffee first.
Buzz-buzz.
The books should be priced at .99 and authors should make money on t-shirts and concert tours.

HURD?
I thought there were trucks involved.
One night, someone(s) went down our street, smashing a window on every car and taking whatever, for 3 blocks. Police just took a report.
Whatever happened to Jon Katz?
Wankel Rotary Engine!
Not in MY house you don't!
Last I'd heard, they'd canned it back in '63 with the test ban treaty.
Would love to watch one of these babies take off (from a long way back).

But, but, I put a link to my super-secret (don't tell Mom because I sometimes post boobies) blog in all my posts.
Damn you Slashdot, for invading my privacy! Damn you to HELL!
