The personal ICE auto is a serious problem (environmental, resource dedication, sprawl, land-use, etc etc) and History will see the 20th century's affection for the Auto with very scournfull eyes... we are making mistakes today (and in hear history/future) that are going to cost us all very dearly in times to come.

*My pet idea is that American Plutocrats had to warp the West into mindless consumers -- and sell them the idea that it is their right to consume -- in order to drive the the needless creation of material wealth, in order to "destroy" Communism. This ethos, that it is a Human Right to have everything one pleases -- at any cost -- will, in time run us into the ground. Sheesh, if 300Million people can be that mis-informed, and support acts based on this misinformation, can we *really* blame one little Technology writer for not having his crap straight?

In truth, the world of ideas is populated by many who purposely seek to misinform. A group, knowledgable on a topic, (/.ers on LibreSoftware) is *very difficult* to fool, but step back for a momenet, the informed /.er is not the intended audience for this message, it (may) have been very purposely crafted MISINFORMATION meant for a more naive audience. Not 'us'.

keeping down blatently obvious memes is very difficult today, when there is no barrier to entry for spreading information (good, keeps 'repressed memes' a vector opportunity) how do you keep this kind of obvious BS down? Tough question, the public (as BushCo so readily proves) is WAY to easily influenced with propaganda... the best antedote (imho) is to spread the 'tolerance' meme: "If you dont tresspass my Human Rights, I support your pursuit of happiness" - of course, my definition of Human Rights is not the same as yours... ;)

As for the NDP, they are not wise to their bad economic policies, tax and spend doesnt work with WTO-Style Free Trade. We need fair trade, methods to guard communities (canada/ontario/UK/wherever) from being forced into the Race To The Bottom against nations who are being exploited by the International-Plutocrats.

The NDP should have passed their "New Politics Initiative" and seeked to remake themselves in a merge w/ the Greens. I hope they, in short order will approach the Greens, or Us approach them. I dont want to see the NDP and Greens become unelectable -- as long as we persist with this bullshit method of governance (non PR / FPTP voting).

As for the Tories and Grits, well, If the Tories manage to unite w/ Reform^h^h^h^h^h^Alliance, they might manage to set themselves up as the recipients of the coming "innaugurate Martin" backlash, those who want "Change" will turn to the right (morons) only because they dont want Yet Another Liberal.
