And a CF card is about twice as big - twice as big as 'damn small' is still small.
Smart Media cards (PCMCIA PCCard - different form-factor) is about as thick as a dime and just slightly larger than a postage stamp... why not use that?
The MMC in these Palms are a SDMI delivery device - nothing else - it has no striking independent technological merit of its own that isnt available on a Libre implementation of the PC Card Standards... CF cards are a little bigger - but still unbelievably small -Do you think IBM Microdrives are too big? Wouldnt we all like a IBM Microdrive for our handheld devices.. it provides plenty of space for a few days worth of music/video/picture creation/enjoyment... a couple 96/128 MB CF cards will do the same... so tell me: Why MMCard? Lets be honest about the size issue -it really is irrelevant.

For a more open device I suggest you all see the offerings from Compaq, Casio and HP... sure they have WindowsCE - but the hardware is terrific (memory/speed/sound/colour) and they havent collectively sold you out to the RIAA/MPAA/"Authorized Content Providers".

Here is the devils Question: How is the MultiMediaCard a tool of the content providers to implant a technology to subvert fair-use rights and user freedom / How does the choice of MultiMediaCards & Secure Digital tie in?
Sorry if I dont feel warm and fuzzy about Palm's adoption of a standard that will ultimately be the means to extend RIAA/MPAA/"Content Owners" rights while displacing my own as a private citizen... (Assumption of guilt built into technology required by collusive monopolies)
And Further - why would i want to spend my money to buy this device if it entails adopting a technology that provides me zero benefit... and 'them' the real benefit (see afore mentioned 'Citizen-Fucking-Method(TM)')

If there were such a project that could harness the processing power of all the players of The Sims could we fashion bigger and better cities for Sim City 4000?
I wonder if SimCity4000 wont be a game where you build Cities where SimsOnline Players build thier houses... that would be tremendous. When you lay down a track of Residential - people actually chose the space for their Sims Players. Industrial & Commercial space would be to house the 'retail' aspect they describe in the article. Your infrastructure (roads/hospitals/wonders/parks) would serve to make The Sims lives more convenient or 'happy'; making your city more attractive to new players... Imagine the Fun you could have by starting a UFO Invasion or Starting A Fire! Run Sim People RUN!!
of religion. But try looking at the whole picture. Some of humanity's greatest science, art, and literature was also inspired by God.*
I think your not seeing the point friend, your retort that 'but everything wonderful around you is a result of the beauty of Jesus and God' is a non sequitur - the point is there is no god. There is no "jesus christ".Gesus & Jod are a fantasy - the Bible is fiction.
I know alot of people will consider this flamebait, but CoS, Muslims, Christians, Jews and the rest are participating in mass hysteria. Seemingly by will, it is important to note that all through time mankind has invented religion. Belief in the religion of your family and peers is a matter of chance - meaning: If you were born in India you would likely be hindu, if you were born in Italy; likely christian. All the while believing *your* religion was right - all the while *feeling* that you were connected to our image of God. Mass illusion.
The natural defense from a Christian (I grew up in a Christian household) is that some people don't have 'faith' that they should accept 'jesus' they need to 'feel his love'. Perfect brainwashing, transparent and obvious. For those Christians who are reading this now thinking "this guy donsnt know what he's talking about, he'll burn in hell, oh well - im going to heaven because I accept God as my saviour": Stop and wonder *why* you think this way *who* *taught* you to have these feelings/thoughts? If you had woke up one day and devised Christianity yourself, would it be as you've heard? Have you ever played the "Telephone Game" in Grade school? Remember how the message changed by the time it reached the 'transmitter'? Imagine that thousands of years of person telling person telling person - do you actually believe what you hear could possibly be fact? Are you willing to accept this *fact* simply because someone has told you (all your life, literally) not to question the 'word of god' or 'his intention'? When you have a doubt - the patent answer is 'have faith, god will do as he sees fit'. Are you willing to accept that there is an omnipotent being, choosing yoru destiny, battling another ultimately evil being (satan) over the fate of your soul? That he is ever present (no beginning/no end (conservation of matter anyone?)) but he created the universe through an act of will in 7 days, that he occasionally appears to your peers to guide them (never you because you are not worthy), and 'mary' *was* a virgin? This all happened thousands of years ago - and you are going to believe it? You don't have to believe - do you - because you have faith. No reason - just faith.
If you could *INVENT* a religion: Would it look like $your_religion_here$? Maybe/Maybe not - but if you wanted your Religion to 'survive' and 'spread' would you not employ the above method as replies? For religion to spread/survive it must stand up to ages of people questioning it with reason, if a religion didn't reply "have faith" as defense for its 'shortcomings' - then it wouldn't survive. This makes the need for 'faith' and why religion also creates the 'faith defense'. All 'successful' religions have 'faith'. (my apologies if this is a nonsense ramble - it is a difficult idea for me to convey.)
Humanity as a whole should take responsibility for its actions; war, hunger, art, beauty, environment, anger, happiness, television,/., $allthethingsincludedinyourlastparagraph$, automobiles and bookcases are *all* a construct of man. Religion is the same, it is not a 'guiding force' or 'ultimate truth' of some kind, it is a fantasy that people teach one another. As long as we hid behind religion, we are making an emotional effort to dodge our own responsibility for our choices in life, when we collectively wake up from this fantasy - use our intellect to push through - and take ownership, instead of saying 'its the will of God/Allah/Whatever' - we can make the *choice* ourselves to improve our world, culture and lives.
I couldn't agree with you more! Many of Terra's problems are because of lack of focus and 'in-fighting' - if the whole world suddenly woke up one day to a 'newscast' saying 'This is the image of another planet that has oxygen, water, and is capable of sustaining us' everything would change! Instantly! It would be like a visit from Aliens. If we could ever show people this - they would stop fighting about Coke-vs.-Pepsi and other 'in-bred-cockfighting' and start thinking for a moment; We can actually GOTO ANOTHER PLANET!
I just hope that someone is able to produce an image of some planet - not a wobble - but an image.
Now, the question is: How do we actually send anything (ourselves even) millions of light years away???!?!! This is the non-trivial part of the problem.
The Keck Interferometer will be able to detect planets farther from their parent stars, helping to pave the way for future interferometers in space that will look for Earth-like planets, NASA said.
Correct me if Im wrong (im sure you will all have no problem with this request) - but we are not going to be capable of imaging the actual planet body but instead be capable of detecting the influence of smaller planets on their stars...?
Imaging an actual planet is very different from detecting wobbles in Star orbits... where the former is surely the 'holy grail' our planet needs to motivate - and provide perspective to our opportunity in the universe - and work towards a real and noble goal of establishing a permanent, self-sustaining, Human presence other than Terra.

Please compare versus: Compaq iPaq H3635 (64MB coming soon) & the Casio's E125 This Sony device comes close - but IMNSHO dosnt measure up.
Ive said this a thousand times: What we need in the PDA 'industry' is an uncoupling of OS & Hardware. People have a hard time arguing that the Casio/HP/Compaq devices aren't better hardware; its simply that people don't want to buy into a(nother) M$ product. I had a hard time deciding to buy my E100 (I got it shortly after release) because M$ was 'inside'... what I want to be able to do is get it out!
The PDA industry needs to form a 'standards' body of some kind. Once this occurs I would hope to see 3Com, PocketLinux(Transvirtual), M$, Qt, Yopy, Agenda, RIP, SHARP and others write their OSs to that standard! Let the Hardware people compete on hardware (and drive features up/prices down) and let the Software Compete on Software (and drive the features up/price down). What we have here is a mess of compromise when choosing PDAs. I would have loved my Casio to come with a LinuxPDA distro of some kind, or maybe PalmOS - but the E100 had their features beat hands down.
Can someone direct me to an effort, mailing list, website of some group/person who also sees this major flaw in the direction of the PDA world? What we need is a de-coupling, witness the result of the PC world when IBM opened the PC, contrast this with the direction that Apple took. Not to slight the Apple camp, but the diversity, power, price, ubiquity, 'openness' of the PC and its model would be a good idea for the PDA world.

Palm's/Handspring/Sony are doing themselves a dis-service for not simply adopting the Cardbus standard. Whats wrong with The Millions of CF et al devices that already exist that makes Handspring & Sony adopt their proprietary interfaces?
I bought a Casio E100 (Now auto-booting Linux when I insert my 96MB CF Card!) for this reason (and the fact that the Casio Hardware (and now Compaq) were attractive to me (MP3/Video/65K Colour TFT). There still isnt a Palm device that matches the hardware of the Casio/Compaq devices (I know its only killer hardware to run WinCE - but it still exploits the hardware in ways that no Palm device is capable of (multi-media beauty)).
Im not suggesting that WinCE/PocketPC are better OS s, Ive run a Palm - I understand its design beauty, that it was built only to serve as a PDA and the assumed metaphors in that OS are designed from that perspective, but Ive always bought Hardware based on its capabilities/merit. Simple Logic: Why doesnt the Patent Office fire up a Slashcode based website and give the community-at-large an opportunity to diffuse patents *before* they are issued?
If disclosure is a problem - just issue ALL (*everything* not just technology) patents with a 2-3-4mos. 'community review period. Simple. No more bad patents.

.sig for the reason why you will not see responsible government backing on electric vehicles. (Hint: It has something to do with 'plutocracy')
Hehehehehehhahahahah you seem to forget who the President of the USA is! The prick wants to dig for oil in a National forest and you think that he is going to want electric vehicles? Not for an instant.

Looking at this screenshot I would guess that to the left of our Mr.RMC is actually the Coffee Pot.
Overall - Pretty scary idea, how would you like the %time spent in the bathroom appearing on your performance review, or within 5ft of the printer, or 5ft within the coffee pot.
Does anyone have to say "Big Brother"?
Did YOU read the source code
No, but I know I could if I wanted to. And so could anyone else. Very *big* difference.
but the silly SlaphDash.org knee-jerk "Micro$oft suxors" reaction to any mention of them is just moronic.
What? Are you in a dream world? I was relating a funny story. Relax, anywhere in my comment did you see 'suxors'?

I couldnt believe it.. funny thing is most sheeple would think 'oh-ok - I dont mind then..."
Does anyone know if Intel has 're-enabled' the UID in its CPUs in the P4?
Wouldnt it be nice if they could track exact CPUs....
What a fiasco this is going to be...
how could Office possibly know that I already have an activation code
It will just go into that MBR of your HD that no-one but M$ should have code in there anyway.... ?
Siemens uses the 'key' in the MBR trick for its PLC dev. software... virus scanners used to kill it all the time.
