Intel has 80% of the market share

Yeah but a few years ago, Intel had over 90% marketshare. AMD has come a long way. People used to give me strange looks when I told them I preferred AMD over Intel (this was in the Super Socket 7 days, when AMD had PC-100 and Intel was still using PC-66).

There's nothing wrong with Intel products (FDIV jokes aside), they make solid chips that perform decently. But the price/performance award goes to AMD hands down, and has for some time.

Rambus basically sat in on industry meetings, then pre-emptively patented the technologies which were under proposal. Their methods were no more than extortion toward companies which implemented the (supposedly open) standards the industry had agreed upon. As far as I know Rambus doesn't actually employ many (any?) engineers, they are primarily in business to make money from "intellectual property."

  4. Windows only? on Firefox-Based Netscape 8 Beta Goes Live · · Score: 1

I understand that this is a beta version, but if they're embedding the IE rendering engine, I can't imagine that this browser will be cross platform. This is significant because it will be the first Netscape which is not cross platform. Seems like a giant step backwards.

Also, does the MPL (Mozilla Public License) affect their ability to close the source? I'm not that familiar with the MPL, but I think it's more BSD-ish than GPL-ish.

Finally, I can't think of a greater disservice to those of us interested web standards, than for AOL to embed the IE rendering engine, and especially using it by default for "safe" sites. Anyone want to bet that "safe site" status is available for purchase, regardless of how evil a site may actually be?

The only good thing that might come of this, is that people might finally abandon Netscape for good, and hopefully migrate to the "real" Netscape, aka Mozilla/Firefox.

I don't need extreme performance in a mini-pc, my needs are: something small and quiet with low power draw, something that can run 24/7 and not drive up the power bill, and not burn the house down because a fan got stuck or because the water cooling system developed a leak. I've looked for such a case/motherboard, and have had no luck at all. Except in the Mac Mini.
