Damn, that sounds scary. This was an ill named technology, especially for it to be catching on at a time of such concern about the spread of disease. Maybe some product placement would help their image. Hey, I bet the band Anthrax could use some new wireless equipment!:)
That's probably because the middle mouse button is programmed to open links in a new tab (Edit>Preferences>Navigator>Tabbed Browsing) and to close tabs in Mozilla. I'm actually surprised to hear that people use the auto-scroll thing in IE, is it really that useful?
At any rate I would be extremely upset if the functionality was changed at this point, opening new tabs with a middle click has become second nature. When I'm forced to use an IE-only machine, browsing without tabs or popup blocking seems so clunky and antiquated. (And before anyone mentions it, I am not a fan of WinXP's (nor KDE's) taskbar grouping "feature", which is simply an inelegant solution which is better solved by virtual desktops.)
Not that there aren't crap GPL programs out there, but you can get the same thing in Windows. A lot of hobbyist/shareware programs are simply crap, no matter what the platform.
According to their latest insider sales report, Michael P Olson (SCO VP and Controller) has made a cool $678,734 from sales on 52,500 shares in the last three months. Also see the substantial sales by Robert K Bench (SCO's CIO and CFO), and Reginald Charles Broughton (Senior VP).
Seems like the top brass doesn't have too much confidence in the sustainability of their business model..
That may be one reason the broadcasters want this piece of trash. Another reason would be the elimination of Tivo-type PVR devices, which allow the end user to avoid watching their commercials and other dreck.
So where do you get your jobs from? Just asking, because I'm kinda in the same situation. Got lucky this spring and got a contract to build some PHP web apps, also did some Perl/CGI and C# there, but now I'm back on the bench and not seeing much action on the job boards.:(
I live in the US, and have often wondered how people here can stand hour after hour of commercials. And if that isn't enough marketing for you, the sitcoms now have so much product placement they're practically infomercials.
Personally, I only watch several hours of broadcast TV a week, although I do like to watch DVDs at home.
So I guess you wouldn't have been interested in Greg Nacu's demonstration, where he played the X-Men movie trailer AND played a popular kung-fu flash animation AND checked his email at the same time, using his souped up SX-64 (with a 16-bit CPU and an IDE hard drive) running the multitasking Unix-like OS known as JOS..

I noticed a few problems with Slash over the last few days (having hard time loading pages, couldn't post comments). I think they were having a server problem. Certainly I've never had any rendering problems with this site before, and I've been using Mozilla here since the pre-1.0 days.
I guess you're referring to the XScreenSaver hack, bsod. IT emulates not just the infamous Windows error screen, but also Mac, Amiga, Unix, etc error messages. Might be fun to leave running on a cow-orkers desktop.
Bluetooth *is* spreading.

All these slashdotters install linux, and claim that the Windows partition is only there for games
What Windows partition?
The thing with Poi is, it's not meant to be eaten as an entree. Use it as kind of a dip for pork, fish or whatever.. it's good! :)
Hm, different strokes I guess. Personally, I'm a mousewheel addict. Give me an old wheel-less mouse and my productivity will be toast.. ;)

Of Course Windows is more secure than linux, once you disconnect it from the network...
..and unplug the box, take and lock it in the trunk of your car, which is then driven down by the river and submerged.. then it will be pretty secure.

WTF happened to campaign donation reform?!

The ability to record is precisely why we're somewhat willing to put up with so many commercials -- we don't see them anyway.
Conversely, the rise of PVRs is precisely why broadcasters want to remove the consumer's ability to record. Don't touch that dial.

Here are some details about it.. enjoy!

Good stuff.. you should drop by comp.sys.cbm sometime and tell us all about it!
Too bad you didn't go to the expo, there were c64s and 1541s being given away for free..
Yeah, well my portable weighs 25 lbs and doesn't even have a battery, you insensitive clod!
Gotta admit, that picture of Ballmer was pretty sick tho!

Free as in beer, maybe. But things that come with strings attached aren't really free, now are they?
That's wierd, I expected to see a "Funny" moderation on this. Last time I checked, NVidia's doing fine, despite not getting the Xbox contract.
