One phenomenon you have ignored is that a lot of third-party games don't sell well on the Wii, especially those that aren't targeted at the casual gamer. You know why?
Yes, I do know why: they suck. I've owned a Wii since day one. Had mine reserved and pre-paid. Waltzed past the line of people to pick mine up on November 19, 2006. I own more freaking Wii games than I can count. Multiple drawers full of them. ALL bought and paid for. Most of the 3rd party games are ASS. I'm not sure why this is. I don't think Nintendo is keeping the secret sauce of how to develop actually decent games for the Wii to themselves. It's all there in the SDK. Yet 3rd party after 3rd party just vomits up garbage, bolts an asinine control interface on it and stamps the "Wii" logo on the box looking for cheap and easy money.
I have the know-how and the "savvy" as you say but I would NEVER pirate a 3rd party game for the Wii because none of them are worth the effort.
A coupla things come to mind here. First, this infographic shows as of May, the Wii is monstrously successful. It's been profitable from day one. Nintendo did just release their first six-month net loss in seven years and are predicting falling revenues as Wii sales stall but they've been stockpiling cash for years. So while they do have an issue to address there I think they've got a handle on it.
Second, and more importantly, mobile gaming is where the industry is heading. And guess who has a commanding lead in that market space? That's right, Nintendo. They sell more mobile/handheld gaming devices than anybody else in the world. The only current competition they even have is Apple as more and more people want to play games on their iPhones and to a lesser extent the Android platform (but while that benefits Google it doesn't make them so much of a direct competitor to Nintendo as Apple is). Yes, I've played around with a PSP and think they're okay but the market is not going for them and Sony has no clue what the mobile market wants.
Anyway, does Nintendo need to not rest on its laurels and drop the price of the Wii or take some kind of action to reinvigorate the product line? Yes. Will they? Most likely. Will it work? Probably...but no way to be certain.
And do they need to get a more capable game console on the market soon? I think so. But I also think it's BS that they're not planning on that already. The Wii was available to purchase in the US exactly 4 years ago today. The GameCube 5 yrs before that. The Nintendo 64 was 5 yrs before that. The SNES was a little over 5 yrs before that.
I'd be surprised if there's not a Wii 2 or whatever by the 2011 Christmas shopping season. But even if there's not, I'd be hard pressed to say Nintendo's down for the count. They've been around longer than any other game company. And they're surprisingly well managed.
So, I'm driving home after a late night at the office. A server crashed and it had to be brought back up. Thankfully, I was able to get it back up and running and it's only 3:47AM. So anyway, I'm driving home. I live just outside the city past a nice suburb that keeps me close enough to the action to be city folk, but far enough out that the light pollution doesn't prevent me from seeing the stars at night. I love looking at stars at night. They're beautiful. But not now. I'm driving home. And it's dark and I'm tired and I need to pay attention to the road.
What was that?! HOLY SHIT!!! I just swerved off the road to miss a deer and rolled my car over in a ditch. The airbags deployed and something's broken and I'm bleeding. I can still reach my phone in my pocket to call for help. But I can't place a call. The goddamn cell phone scrambling device in my car is malfunctioning and still blocking me even though the engine is not running and the car's upside down in a ditch.
It's getting really cold. I can feel myself bleeding out as the next hour passes. If I could have made a phone call, I know I would have survived. But I can't. As my consciousness slips from me I think, at least I can see the stars as I lay here dying. I love looking at the stars at night. They're beautiful.
Or you could do like I did recently and just delete your facebook account. Problem solved. Added bonus: they don't have my cell number and can't automatically opt-me-in when they roll out their new FaceText feature.
If you're not paying for it, you're not the customer, you're the product.
I'm sure this will be improved over time, but in every example you can see some discoloration or blur that gives away the edit. Until it's perfected, this is neat but easily detectable. Still pretty cool. I like the pack of cigarettes you couldn't see on the desk but was still reflected in the mirror.
Where are my mod points? Oh yeah, I just blew them modding a "3. Profit" comment +5, Funny. Sorry, AC. I was going to post the same link with a "Been There, Done That" title since I'm fresh outta mod points but now I see I'd just get moderated -1, Redundant.
...replying to an AC. I ought to know better. Anyway, it has nothing to do with convenience. It's about business and the philosophy behind how one ought to be run.
I own and run a small business. If I randomly lied to my customers for PR stunts, they'd think that's pretty dickish. So do I. Businesses need to build relationships with customers and the management staff have to decide what kind of relationships they want to build. Lots of companies like to build "you give us money for our products and/or services and we'll screw you every chance we get" relationships and manage to do quite well that way.
GOG.com just announced you can't believe them. That's not the kind of company I like doing business with. When I tell my customers something, I mean it. I prefer doing business with companies that follow the same creed whether it's convenient or not.
You know, the day they went down, I had just been introduced to DXX Rebirth and was going to buy the original Descent 1 and 2 from GOG.com to get the game content. Then they pulled this stunt. I am less likely to purchase anything from them now. Because I hate stupid bullshit stunts like this. But then, they probably will make up for any lost sales by the simple fact that now a whole lot more people have heard of GOG.com than before...so I doubt they care.
Except that if you're married and she stays at home and you file jointly the cut off is $400,000. Personally, paying 5% state income tax on the portion of my household income that exceeds $400,000 sounds like a good problem to have.

Now if only I had Rich Little's talent.
Digg? Twitter? If that's a decent track record, the guy who invented fingernails on a chalk board is batting a thousand.
The more precisely the article explains it to him, the less precisely it will explain it to you.
This guy should join forces with Gene Simmons. They're both douchebags trying to hunt down something as amorphous as fog.
The dwarves delved too greedily and too deep.

God forbid anyone ever try and read the silmarillion.
I swear I read that as "The production has struggled recently with issues with Unicorns, and a fire."

Greetings, Professor Falken. Shall we play a game?

Hey, I hope they do pull more than GB. I'd go if I could.
