Not been paying attention to the flagrant uses of identity politics by democrats and people on the left over the last 8-12 years? If you want a person to be hired based on merit, well merit is a MRA construct. Merit is also sexist/racist and homophobic. Not wanting to hire somebody based on the characteristics that they're born with is also sexist/racist/homophobic and so on. The left have also been the ones at the forefront of pushing the "diversity hires" not on skill, not on ability, not on merit. But again, because of what a person identifies as, or from what they're born with.
Why does it matter? Why do you want to force people into positions that they don't want? Why do you believe that someones genitals, or sexual identity is important? Do you also believe the same thing about an individuals race? Why does it seem your most important qualification to hire someone, or have them in office is something that they're born with.
All of those things? If you want to put people a head of others based on characteristics that they were born with instead of their skill, ability, or the earned merit that they gained from hard work. You're no different then a sexist that believed that only men could be doctors or politicians in the 1910's and earlier. Or a racist in the 1960's that believed those "blacks and/or mexicans" could never be educated enough to succeed.
How many people are going to be advanced to a position and turn it down if it gains them more money? Very few. How many are going to be promoted based on born/identified characteristics because 'diversity hires' are trendy as fuck right now? A lot. Since you made the comment on "British" I'm guess you're in the UK. Now look at the BBC and their diversity push, laying off or firing people and replacing them with individuals who are now put into those positions not because they're going to draw audiences, not because they're good. They're hiring those replacements based on their race, sex, or gender politics.
Keep in mind that "adding value" to a company doesn't mean it's an actual ROI. She didn't create any ROI either, the company devalued by nearly $2B despite snatching up other companies over the last 2 years. Which was why she was forced out by the board. You have to heavily fuck up to be forced out by the members of the board, the next step is usually a shareholder revolt. That's nearly what happened at GM back in ~2009 when they got that nice tasty government bailout. The board put a CEO into place that was hired because of her gender, and her actions and policies heavily contributed to their losses in the time leading up to that. The company was financially bankrupt before the shareholders could revolt against the board.
Except that wasn't the case. Trudeau pushed a 'diversity cabinet' that has made multiple blunders. He didn't push a diversity cabinet based on the best skilled people in their field or was able to get. He pushed it purely based on their gender. Now you have people who are now in positions and the portfolios they're to manage are far outside of their skill level to maintain.
The media reported facts? Well that's debatable, very debatable. It would be like saying, the UVA rape case was factual because "Rolling Stone created a dialog." Something that many 3rd wave feminists(Valenti, Bindle, etc) like to spout. It's neither factual, or truthful. If the trust of the media is lower then congress, it's not a people problem. It's a media problem. Going by your reasoning, Clinton and Kaine said a lot of misandrist, sexist and racist things. The only difference was, the media was in the tank for Clinton and Kaine. The problem with screaming "he's a racist/sexist/xenophobic" identity politics garbage all the time is that when it actually is the case, nobody cares anymore. Then again, the standard that people seem to believe is racist/xenophobic is enforcing border laws and deporting illegals. Sexist of course are now things that are consensual, because "it's dirty". Strange that last one, who knew that the religious right would be dead but their views would be taken up by the non-religious left.
And in the case of the media instead of learning from it, they're doubling down. That also goes for the pundits spouting the same garbage. And it appears that people are doubling down too, but keep digging.
Trump is saying China is manipulating it's currency rate, keeping is low
China is manipulating it's currency rates. It's been well known in the forex community for years, and they've instituted policies that directly depreciate the currency. Japan does the same thing, it's only avoided scrutiny because the manipulated rate puts it almost on par against the US. "Almost" and "not quite" have a lot of meaning in the forex game. S.Korea has much bigger problems right now, like the entire government being so fucked up that there are mass protests against it. And evidence that it was being directly controlled by a group of people in the shadows who weren't in the government. That's not even touching on the really weird shit like the rumors that have been floating around that the ferry sinking with the kids on it a while back was deliberately caused as a human sacrifice for the "8 goddesses".
The climate activists here on Slashdot have been overwhelmed by the moronic crowd of science deniers. The same crowd who elected the racist, emotionally unstable, sexual predator in Chief.
You know, maybe you need to take some time off. Go for a walk, take a trip, read a book or unplug from the internet for a while. Not even in the dankest days of Obama being elected the first or second time, were people so rabidly insane. Though this does remind me of Bush Jr., being elected the first and second time...and the people being completely fucking unhinged. Well whatever, if you want to believe what the media keeps feeding you...by all means. It's not like the DNC didn't pick the worst possible candidate, or one with so much baggage that she could have sunk the Titanic on her own. Or that the DNC pissed all over the electorate, broke their own rules, or were involved in so much corruption in their own process that multiple people quit and then went running to the Hillary camp because they were being rewarded for what they did. Or that people were absolutely sick of what Obama and the DNC were doing in the US, or that 70% of Americans believed that the US was going in the wrong direction or anything and picking Trump was the better choice then the corporate candidate who still hasn't given a talk to her supporters or has even said "stop being fucking retards and destroying shit around you." Like they claim Trump is going to.
Correction: He's smart enough to repeal the worst parts of Obamacare, that's what he also said at the beginning too. Though the entire thing should be tossed out, and re-written to be be sensible. If you guys in the US were smart about the whole "mandated healthcare" bit you would have modeled it after our legislation in Canada. And when they tried passing the existing legislation you would have been protesting in the streets. The federal legislation basically boils down to: Feds have oversight, they toss the provinces money. Each province is responsible for care, costs, where things get built, payment and so on. Minimum levels of care are ensured by an independent 3rd party, feds can only step in if the 3rd party says it's inadequate and feds can only take over at the provincial level until the minimum care level is adequate then it's turned back over to the province.
Forgot about the part which would allow businesses to import workers from any country and replace you. For Americans, you guys have already seen the bullshit with H1B's replacing people already working at a job. What you'd start seeing what we have in Canada with TFW's, where people even in skilled trades being replaced. The leaked document that was post a year and change back showed that any type of agreement negotiated in secret needs to be nuked from orbit.
You ah...looked at FB page? Or even a FB comments system on various sites including news sites in the last oh 8 years, where peoples real names are included. That's some of the most vitriolic stuff you'll ever see, because people can be identified and in turn can be intimidated. Hell look at the number of cases where someone has been "identified" for posting something that's contrary to another person, and they'll get their friends/followers/etc to try and get them fired for it. Much more difficult to do if you're anonymous. FYI: Raping and pillaging wasn't because people didn't know who was doing it. It was precisely because the loser would know exactly who was doing it to them. The entire point was intimidation, fear, and imposing their power over individuals. An individual doing it would be a nameless person in that crowd, but everyone knew who was doing it.
Well somewhat right. The democrats for example are much closer to authoritarians and anti-constitutionalists then liberals. Hillary proposed restricting the 2nd amendment for example through XO's. Establishment republicans aren't any better, many of them hold anti-constitutionalist views as well and are more then happy to work with the democrats as long as it either gets them more power, or more power for the people who helped fund their campaigns...just like democrats. Both establishment democrats and republicans would rather keep the crony capitalist wheels going.
People want to whine over Trump and scream from the rooftop that he's an authoritarian or something else. But the people who supported him weren't the ones ~8 years ago rioting in the streets either. But keep in mind that the current administration, DOJ, IRS and so on have actively worked against the people of the US. Whether it be going after them as political enemies by refusing some form of charity status. Or telling immigration agents to "catch and release" illegals and not enforcing laws on the books with regards to the prosecution of them and businesses that hire them. Or even down to the state level where democrats and AG's want(or wanted to) prosecute people for not having the right orthodoxy on global warming. Trump himself isn't establishment, doesn't have the political pull or even allies like Obama did/does--he started his political career prior to 1997. That in itself makes Trump dangerous to the establishment because they haven't greased his palms, nudged and whispered saying "well here's $15m, just help us pass this law we want to extend copyright on micky mouse for 250 years" and so on.
Especially if the guys with explosives are idiots. That's just what you need, not!
Stupid shit like this happens a lot more then people think. While not on the same level, it reminds me of the case that went through the courts a few years ago where a couple of people stole a ATM from a bank. So what did they do? They went to their local rent-all store, rented a small CAT tractor. Then pulled the ATM out of a bank after ramming it repeatedly and dragging it away. The kicker? They didn't cover up the company rental name, the rent-all's serial number on the side, and were actually dumbfounded when the police caught them. I believe it was something like "I don't understand how we were caught" when they were arrested.
It was absolutely hilarious watching the court case. Especially when their defense attorney tried to claim that it really wasn't them, even though they did this all with their faces uncovered. I heartily recommend people spend some time at court watching court cases from time-to-time(if they have the time off). Some of the stupid shit is amazing, some if it's just down right depressing like family court. And you see things like a father turned down for custody, even though the mother has a long history of abusing the kids, is a drug addict, and the house she's living in is an actual druggie flop house.
That isn't identity politics. It's human nature. Tribal species.
To a point? I agree. On the other hand, the stuff we've seen over the last ~5 years is far beyond human nature. It's actively fostering of the in-group, out-group if someone doesn't adhere directly to the doctrine of the group. This isn't unique to the current regressive left, it was also the MO of the Catholic Church ~400+ years ago. It's the MO of various groups today, but the whole "you're not gay because you support Trump" or "if you don't vote for Hillary, you're a sexist/misogynist" and so on is beyond that scope.
How many years before the gas runs out- 5 years, 10 years?
There's enough natural gas in the ground around Grande Cache, Alberta to supply the US at the current rate for nearly 80 years(best estimates). And it hasn't even been tapped yet. That area is nearly 200 miles away from the oil sands deposits.
Keystone was shut down because it was primarily a way for Canada to ship oil to China. It's of very, very limited use to the United States while presenting significant risks (oil pipelines break all the time because it's cheaper to let 'em break than to maintain them since the tax payer cleans up the spills).
Uh what? That makes no fucking sense, the pipeline is going in the wrong fucking direction. That's on top of the fact that they were planning two pipelines here in Canada one to the west coast and one to the east coast. One of which was called the "Northern Gateway Pipeline" and the explicit point of it was to ship oil to China and asia. Keystone's entire point was to ship Canadian oil to the US for refining because Canada doesn't have the capacity thanks to environmental legislation.
I didn't realize publishing private sextapes and ignoring orders from judges was a first amendment issue, but hacked nudes were a completely different, terrible thing to do.
Of course it is. When you're actually a sexist, it's easy to hold conflicting positions on something while claiming to hold the moral high ground.
There are also people who say Thiel is no longer "gay" because they disagree with him.
Yes, really. The article isn't hard to google.
This is very common with people who engage in identity politics. If you wander off the plantation, you're a non-person. This is very true if you're anything but white, in which case you're just scum anyway. Oh and if you're Asian, you might be Schrodinger's minority, oppressed today, part of the white-capitalist-patriarchy tomorrow. Thiel isn't the only case, he's just the most recent high profile case. Those on left who engage in this type of bullshit said the same thing about Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson and Stacy Dash for example.
I'm sure you'd be OK with someone offering to pay any lawsuits naming you as a defendant, and that this wouldn't result in lots of people suing you hoping to make a buck.
That depends. Did I turn around and refuse multiple court orders and have a past history of engaging in SLAAP like-behavior to stop people from suing me for ruining their name?
I'm pretty sure the only people who felt angered at this as a first amendment issue were the folks at Gawker.
Oh that's not true. There were quite a few people here on/. who were upset too. They seemed to think that Thiel was evil for backing someone who couldn't afford to pay for a lawsuit on their own. I'm sure they also felt the same way about Judicial Watch, EFF, ACLU, NRA and so on.
Wait, I'm hearing something through the grapevine...they're not upset over JW, EFF, ACLU, NRA, etc. They were just upset because Thiel supported Trump, gave no fucks towards their snowflake feelings and helped Hogan burn Gawker to the ground, after Gawker refused several court orders.
trump was the perfect candidate for the facebook masses
You know, it wasn't Trump or the media supporting Trump that turned around and said shit like "Looking at wikileaks is illegal." That was CNN, there was also similar views being pushed in a very vague way NBC, ABC, and CBS. Those networks were all supporting Clinton, so were newspapers like WAPO, USA Today, Boston Globe, NY Times. All with a variety of messages like "well those leaks are because RUSSIA" now believe what we're telling you! Oddly it was organizations facebook and twitter as well, that was removing or blocking content and/or stopping trending data that hurt the DNC.
Strange how that all seemed to work in Hillary's favor right?

No no...it's all Trumps fault right?
Trumps stance on NAFTA is also good, especially since that agreement is fair trade. But people don't seem to realize that.

And no, oil pipelines do not break all the time. Old pipelines break, especially when they're 40-50 years old, and environmentalists shit themselves when companies want to replace them or even upgrade them with better monitoring equipment. But, you rarely hear about trains derailing and dropping their cargo all over the place unless it's in a river, or vaporizes a part of a town like Lac-Mégantic.
The fact that somebody modded you down for this is amusing to me.
It's hilarious as fuck. Some people just don't like it when the facts are jammed in their face.
That one involves democrats they're above the law. Now just remember that Thiel is a traitor to gay people, Trump is Hitler, and buzzfeed is saying he's launching the jack-booted right-wing death squads now...

Let's ask Gawker shall we? They did that multiple times, to numerous people that they slandered.
I'm pretty sure the only people who felt angered at this as a first amendment issue were the folks at Gawker.

Any juicy conspiracy theories here?
Only the conspiracy about the child abuse, child sex parties and pedophilia via the DNC and Podesta email leaks.
Don't worry. Buzzfeed will tell you what you want to know. Just know it before those jack booted right-wing death squads come for you.
