If you can't be bothered to remember primary-school English, it is not likely that you are willing to master rhetorical structure.
Huh? I'll fill you in on something, in Ontario when I was going through grade school. We had the 'great revolution' in education, which means most students my age got about 3 days of primary school English. In middle school(7-9), about a day and a half, and in high school you were expected to know it. Guess what? Not only did the education system change 4 or 5 times, but the teachers refused to teach anyone; they simply expected you to know it. This also happened in the span of about 3 years. You could be in the middle of a term, and they'd go..."OKAY...we're not switching to this book, per-mandated by the provincial government." You want a hodgepodge that left kids at the side of the road? Welcome to Ontario.
Now now there are, a whole pile of students in the levels of higher education who don't have that skill. Or have learned it on their own. Or are suddenly getting stuck taking a second remedial English class to get to speed. Serious issues in the education system have existed here for years, it's just biting them in the ass now. Should be interesting to see how the "new and improved" edumudcation system is working in 10 years time, but the way kids are now, I'm not hoping for much.
Come to Canada. They don't even ask you where you're from half the time.
If you're talking in the reference as a Canadian Citizen, they can't deny you entry back into Canada except in the most extreme cases. See Charter, Case Law and all that fun stuff. In general however, since they picked it up a notch, everyone who isn't a Canadian citizen gets a harsher degree.
Well lets look at reality now shall we? See in the last 150 years we've had amazing improvements in the ability to see and record weather events. Now, where I'm from Ontario, even in the last 10 years if a tornado happened in the middle of nowhere Northern Ontario and no one was around to hear it, it didn't happen. These days it's hit or miss. In the southern half, meaning south of Ottawa, we get anywhere between 20-45 a year. Which is pretty average and has been average.
Nowe to continue on, if you don't let nature do it's thing out west. Like in California, BC and so forth and burn out the dead brush then you start getting these amazing wildfires which will do the job for you because there is so much dry tinder. See wild fires are a part of the ecosystem. Plants and animials there have developed around it. See how some of the pines even require fire to crack open their cones. Now, Spain and Greece. They've been pretty good at failing to maintain low-level growth, and killing off large trees. See where I'm going with this? And in places like the Sahara where they're now planting seed grasses and small trees. They're taking off. Desertfication is receeding.
I don't know anyone who will. At worst it'll make me go back to print, sadly the profession I'm going into requires me to keep up with the news more or less. The other problem is that most of what they report on court cases is so screwed up that half the time I can't even tell that this was the court case I was actually at.
Regardless of that, the Canadian National dalies don't seem to be going apeshit at trying to pull this so that makes me happy. I'd hate trying to goto my criminal law class without some current news article to disect.
A lot of things are required in print anymore. They're starting to push in some areas of Canada that police notebooks be in all caps, simply to avoid confusion, and make sure that scumbag lawyers can't use the cursive as a means to say "well you miswrote this, so we're just going to go for a mistrial now..."
My uncle and cousin are red/green color blind(severe), runs in our family. I know where you're coming from. I really hope this will becoming out to the public 'soonish'. This is a huge breakthrough.
I suppose I can clarify that too(not that I need the karma), just to step beyond the joke. In clothes officers, meaning wearing the uniform cost more because they're flying the flag(as it's called) than officers who are in plain clothes(the stuff the average guy on the street wears). Why? Because it's a perception issue, and a liability issue.
Don't ask me why, I have no freaking clue. Except that's generally how it works in Ontario.
It's just plain better to leave it down and take a piss like that unless you have a urinal and even then it's touch and go.
Urine will eat flooring, it stinks, it does nasty stuff to just about everything in the bathroom, and really most people never clean behind their toilet anyway. Want to see how bad? Use a blacklight in your bathroom one day.
Wars are caused by 3 things, the top being food. One man actually was able to remove one cause that's plagued mankind for the last 20,000 years with science. For his credit, he even went as far as to push it into Africa. Unfortunately, when you have a vastly unstable region with no government control you can only do so much.
Nah this guy is one of histories greatest individuals. If only the ignorant actually understood what he actually achieved, and what high-yield crop farming could do, they'd figure out that Africa could feed the world, and you wouldn't even need to worry about hunger anywhere.
Than again, maybe you're one of those assholes who believe in positive population checks. You know, all war is good war, all diseases that wipeout mankind are good, and all starvation that keeps the peasants dead are good.
Quite correct. Buying a permit, plus officer costs, plus vehicle rental, plus officer OT will get you your very own police escort. It's not that expensive. Probably around $600-900/per hr officer plus permit. You too can feel like a big shot, of course some companies to that just to feel big. Some companies also hire in clothes police as extra protection when their regular duty security can't cut the slack. Because even a cop who's on duty there is still a cop.
This is quite common in Canada for a lot of bars in University towns, they'll hire cops to patrol the floors/entrances just for the extra security. And the cops will send out their own as well just to show the flag(officer presence) to keep the peace.
The anonyposter is correct. Here in Canada we do, do some mining by remote rig now. But that's not the real funny thing, underground not so much of an issue. It can be the toxic gas releases in the high arctic that will kill you. So you get an operator sitting in a remote box a good ways away and do it. There's a company near me who does underground coal mining all by wired remotes.
Personally, I think we should rethink breeder reactors.
Of course you should. Other countries in the world use technology similar without the 'plutonium boogyman' to stop them from using mixed fuel in their reactors. It's just the anti-nuke nuts that seem to have a problem with it.
Regardless, there's an assload of thorium sitting around as well. That means we have no shortage of fuel in the long term.
Not true. Obsession and love go hand in hand, even if one person is still the primary driver for it. There's a term for it, but the name escapes me at the moment. Ah well...it may or maynot come to me, take a wonder through a psychology book it's in there I'm just too lazy.
Revenge? Pettiness? Still in love? Take your pick of anything including 200 other odd reasons. Love is the most dangerous emotion you have to deal with, and it's the same emotion that makes people safe and secure. While making them do stupid, and insane things that will get them locked up for a very long, long time.
Yeah that's because the BQ hasn't figured out a way around the last bit from the SCC on "the question" is it legal(not), and how do they phrase a clear question and still get people in Quebec to actually vote on it. The last time around the question was so verbose, and so misleading it could have applied to anything.
So the government had the clarity act passed. The SCC dropped everything it was doing and 'defined the law' on separation.
The browser is secure. I've mentioned this in other security forums, but flash & java went the way of ActiveX several years ago. "Playing outside the sandbox", a bad, bad idea. Soon as that happened, not only did it open a sluice of security vulnerabilities, but it broke the traditional sandbox concept of safe browsing. Now that doesn't stop the occasional stuff like buffer overruns, or divide by zero bugs to get control of a system. Bugs are bugs, but when you're able to send redirect requests to an external app, installed on the system with no user control... i.e. Browser>plugin>secondary\/trinary software we've got ourselves a serious problem.
The only solution I see is for the current development of flash to stop as it is. Move to app level support, and a new browser only based plugin to be released that doesn't break the sandbox rule. Because people are stupid, computers are still semi-complex bits of software and hardware. And not everyone is smart enough to keep it up to date. And that applies for all OS's.
And before some smartass decides to post "use a mac" good idea, too bad they're vulnerable to java and flash problems(stupid people are stupid). And linux flavors are good, but either don't work properly for most people, or are still under the mature point for most people OoTB.
Never happen, ever. Because it would be a green light for other provinces to start using not-withstanding like a giant bat. That's something the government doesn't want to do. The hate crime law is legislation anyway, any part of it can be repealed in force by the government at anytime.
If I remember correctly, Trudeau and his government were the architect for this legislation. Not only was he the largest asshole to ever come out of Quebec. He thought all of Canada his personal playground, reguarlly believed he was unstoppable, and in general an asshole to the Canadian public. All while...people loved him, while he fawned terms similar to "hope and change".
Yeah...if you don't know how far the liberals have gone to get power in Canada you don't know squat. Including collapsing the government on a friday, using a non-confidence motion, after everyone had already gone home.
CHRT has no teeth on this. All they can say is "unlawful" and go on about their business about prosecuting people. If it was a real court we wouldn't be in this position now. What a pile of BS.
But...they can bury you in fines and ruin your life without ever having to be judged by the actual laws of the land. That type of stuff really pisses me off.

Failing to dot a i on in cursive is fair game to spend 3 days to try arguing for a mistrial? You tell me.

What you mean like warden? It looks for hooks, but doesn't root. And operates from within the game.
My uncle and cousin are red/green color blind(severe), runs in our family. I know where you're coming from. I really hope this will becoming out to the public 'soonish'. This is a huge breakthrough.

Agreed. The shame of it is, it may very well take another global catastrophe that we were facing in the '50's to get another man like hm.
Wars are caused by 3 things, the top being food. One man actually was able to remove one cause that's plagued mankind for the last 20,000 years with science. Mining by robot is not a concern.

That would defeat the purpose of /.

Can I hire these guys to make me money? Seriously, I've never seen number fudging like this.
And that my fellow Canadians is why Quebec and the rest of the country is in the pissing match we're in today. AKA the "Night of long knives."
Thanks Trudeau.
