Don't you know? The wind blows one way, than the other. We're doomed, then not doomed. Followed by we're so guilty we're already screwed that we should just wipe out humanity for the next apex species.
Yeah, seriously this stuff gets old pretty quick. Half the reason why you can't take stalk in most of it.
Japan is a quasi-nuclear power, one of many nations in the world. In other words, they already are. They simply have to build the bomb, and already have all the technical ability to build the most destructive and deadly weapons man has ever created.
I wouldn't trade the shop time I got in highschool for anything in the world. Mind you this is up in Canada, and most of these programs have long been gutted since I left over 15yrs ago. Thinking of the things I've learned. Welding:(arc, tig, mig, oxy/acetylene) and how to use a plasma cutter. Proper jointing & common mistakes for bad welds. Woodshop: Proper use of tools, making my own items, balancing/squaring, mitering, various odd home repair work. Electrical: Rewiring, 1,2,3,4 way switching, proper code for wiring(at the time & how to find updated code), they taught basic electronics including how to use IC's, understand resistors & capacitors, as well as build your own miniature circuits. Engineering(I was the last class through): CNC use, machining, proper lathe use, draft & comp. CNC. How and the ways to machine various types of metals. Drafting & design Automotive: Engine teardowns & rebuilds, learning the OBD->OBD2 system, multi-format system between imperial, metric, standard. How to diagnose & evaluate problems. Proper workshop safety, and a general 'cheap' way for the entire student body to get their cars fixed for nothing.
Seriously, you learn nothing in high school these days that isn't replaced the second you step out the door. The stuff I've learned in the shop classes I still use.
I'm not even going to ask how long it took you to rewrite what I wrote, or if you even bothered to read what I wrote. Then again you might want to consider again reading that whole big giant thing called the Charter, focusing on S.1 of it. Personally I don't hold lawyers of any breed in any type of high regard. There's a good reason, and if you haven't figured out why then you're probably voting NDP too.
Uh no. You're innocent until proven guilty. Per the Charter(aka law of the land) in Canada. When the onus is on you to prove an allegation to be true, it means that in the past that there has been situations which require the balance of probability to be higher. In other words, it requires there to be a substantiation of beyond a reasonable doubt that the facts are true. This is due to the fact that a persons "Character" is considered a higher order of being, this again is a hand-me-down from common law, enshrined via statue.
Now between public and private defamation, you bet we do. Especially when the Judge makes their decisions, as it actually is the Judge in Canada who sets the sentences, not the Jury. They're also required to be "reasonable", if it's unreasonable you can expect it to go to appeals. Now, check the sections of the Criminal Code, then go hit CanLII to start your research in what we call up here Common Law. Judicial decisions create case law based on their own decisions, and also builds into sections to the rule of law as it goes along. Sadly, this it the fact that most Americans don't understand about the rule, and common law process when it's applied to statue law.
Once you've done that, you'll have a better understanding of Canadian law and how it works.
I would hazard that "douchebag" is defined under common law, much like the ~490 pages of "Reasonable". Yes, amazing isn't it. There are several times when the onus is actually on the person who did the speaking to actually be responsible for their actions. That's a wild scary thought isn't it? I've seen the judicial process abused too, every day for the last several years. It was called two for one, or time already served.
Here's an idea, if you don't like how the defamation law is, contact your MP; Or file a court case on it and take it up with the supreme court. Otherwise, you're not doing anything.
Now if I pull out my handy-dandy copy of the criminal code(publishers copy of course), and wonder through the various sections of 296-317, it's pretty simple in understanding what's required. Don't be an asshole, and publish something that isn't true that will damage a persons reputation, and you won't have any problem. If it's true, it's fair game. Easy isn't it? Then again, most people don't understand how the law works in Canada. Personally I blame people for watching too much TV, that again isn't my problem.
We generally call it, "Don't be a douchebag law," up here in Canada. It works fairly we, for the most part Canadian society is fairly well mannered society. This also runs from common law, and the rest of our government. Seems to have been working well for the last little bit.
Being that Canada's law of the land is the law of the land, followed by common law & statue law. It's by and far more difficult for the government to run with an oblique motive. Generally what's said is.
Funny isn't it? Welcome to a Westminster Parliamentary style of Government.
Canada's solution to this is already covered under our impaired driving code. The way that I've heard it so far will work like this. If the officer believes that you're operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a drug, you'll be required to provide a mouth swab. This will be sent away for drug analysis, and destroyed. There will be no DNA evidence kept. If you're found to be impaired with the operation of a motor vehicle, then you'll be charged under s.253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
Easy easy. The law is already on the books here for laying the charge, the problem is either getting the proof. That means either a swab, or someone pissing in a cup. Compelling evidence is difficult, however compelling for a roadside breath test isn't nearly a difficult. But hey, you can be intoxicated 13hrs after you've finished drinking.
CPAC has everything online already. Technically the Crown(that is the Queen) has paid for them, not the voters. They're not attempting to hide anything, but rather ensure that things are not being taken out of context, and used in a way that bring disrepute upon Parliament or the Queen. This is the funny thing about living up here, and being in this style of government.
Want to defame your politicians? Go a head, want to yell, scream, and call them names? Feel free. Want to start taking things out of context, and making it seem like it applied to something else, so it casts a negative light? Well now...even that's something that the public won't stand for up here. Even the CBC has been smacked in the face over it a few times in the last couple of years.
Canadians are very complacent over their government, affairs of government, and how the system works. A very, don't rock the boat system. But if you start crossing the wrong lines, even they will start raising hell over it.
There's a LARGE difference between breeding of plants/animals via *natural* methods and laboratory methods - chopping up genetic material, inserting it into bacterial or viral vectors, and then using those to change the genetic makeup of the target item.
Depends are you? You do realize that there isn't much of a difference between using the old method of straining plants, and using direct genetic manipulation right? Of course, you don't see GE'd crops that are spliced with fish and wheat. Know why? That's right, it has to do with the fact that we don't allow the public to eat our experiments. Something called ethical standards. However, the use of shell injection with new genetic material for into public consumption is, and is very highly controlled. More so than the OTC, and prescription meds that you buy.
The current round of GE crops that are manufactured are...shockingly hybridization of the same species. I don't know about you, but if we can go from using strain(up to 120 plant generations with a 85/90% failure rate), to 12-25 generations with a 40-60% failure rate to produce something that has a triple yield, and can resist disease/insects. I believe it's worth it. If you don't, better tell Mexico, India, and China they were better off starving to death when we started the green revolution.
Sensible people who are in favour of GE labelling are in it for one thing: we'd like to be able to not choose commercially owned monoculture species.
I take it that you don't eat bananas(feel free to pick one of several different varieties however, just remember the common banana was a genetic mistake), one of the three main staples of rice, or one of the 5 modern varieties of potatoes(even though there are 50 grown around the world for consumption). Let alone any of the modern types of rye or wheat then. Without GEing food, you're left with one thing a population that can't feed itself by introducing varieties that produce large and more bountiful yields or are more resistant to whatever issues that are cropping up.
You may or may not know this, but the common cow species we have now, was bred out of a very vicious version about 4,000 years ago. Anyway, I'm not sure where you're getting the bull insemination bit from, but up here in wonderful Canada land(where cows outnumber people), we have somewhere in the range of 5-10:1 in breeding stocks, same with sheep. This ensures a wide genetic variety in stocks, especially outside of the herds.
Genetic diversity changes more quickly in plant populations then you'd expect, even with us attempting to modify plants(try breeding roses sometime) via forced and non-forced breeding. If you're not trying to increase yields to let people eat, and support a population. We might as well go back to "Positive population checks" aka death, famine, and war while we're at it. Personally, I'm not one to say sorry folks but we only have enough food for 4b people, time to draw straws and let 2b starve to death. Are you?
Sadly you've only got one choice, but you're not going to end up with a single genetic monoculture for a plant species. To think that, you're being naive. We already know what happens when you do that.
This whole GE bit is nonsense and drives me up the wall. We've been doing it for thousands of years with domestication, selective breeding, and tightly controlled pollination methods. Hello Mr. common moo-moo cow, common yellow banana(ever eaten a seeded banana? blah), flightless chicken, stupid turkey, various improved breeds of corn, wheat, rice, and rye.
Greetings Man's Best Friend, I realize we've been improving your species for the last 10,000yrs for various reasons. Still friends right?
Special interest groups, and the media need to dig their heads out of their asses.
Their loss has a large part to do with the falling value of the Yen vs USD. That's not forgetting that there are parts of Sony. LTD that are mixed in with other parts and companies inside the horizontal banking system of Japan. Most sectors of the Japanese economy are suffering anywhere from horrible to badly right now for various reasons. However I can't think of any industry outside of "Alcohol" and "Entertainment" that are making money. When things get bad, people look for any diversion possible, and if you're in the entertainment business. Bad economies are good for business.
When I was playing(more-so raiding) in WoW, and I live on the East Coast there were plenty of times with AT&T dropping the ball with one of their routers. Seeing 500ms wasn't a big surprise off my ISP, personally until ISP's figure their shit out and actually work together instead of saying: "It's their fault, no it's their fault!" Than really, I'm not too worried about anything else.
For WoW typing/RL in the chatbox will fix it as well. That forces the game to reload all user objects within the game according to the server data. No exiting, death or other things required.
Canada isn't like the US. We don't have the population density to maintain and support a large number of stores in most cases, smaller shops have dried up and gone away. This is half of the problem, while I live in Southern Ontario if I want something to do with robotics I now travel to Toronto. Roughly 2hrs away.
I find that slightly depressing. Maybe moving to Japan would be a better choice if I want to continue this hobby. Then again I'd have to become a Japanese Citizen to continue my line of work.
Sad thing here, 20yrs ago I could pick up just about anything I needed for my electronics needs. 10yrs ago, I had to start finding specialty stores within a 25mi radius, sometimes as far away as 100mi. No, most of those stores are gone. I really enjoy tinkering with stuff like this, the problem is people in North America don't. It's seems as if innovation has dried up and died.
Sounds like the good old days, when ads were ads. And not annoying flashing things that nearly caused your eyes explode in your head. If he does decide to run with it, I expect a replacement plugin to pop up within a week. Maybe two tops.
I still can't see it. I do know how VIN's work(I was an apprentice back about 10yrs ago), while they're unique to the vehicle that doesn't mean much. They can still be cloned, manufactured, and stolen from other vehicles. So when you rattle off the VIN, it will report a valid engine/body/frame configuration and sometimes the equipment package.
Part of the reason the VIN is located on three different parts of a vehicle, sometimes up to 6. Not counting after-manufacturing etching.
Things are pretty generic these days, started in the mid 90's. For example on my Saturn, the spark plugs, EGR valve, and Ignition coil pack(among other things) are exactly the same across 3 different vehicles, 4 model years, and 2 engine types and 3 power trains(standard(4&5 speed) and automatic transaxles).
"Scientist" doesn't mean, "without my own bias."
Don't you know? The wind blows one way, than the other. We're doomed, then not doomed. Followed by we're so guilty we're already screwed that we should just wipe out humanity for the next apex species.

Holy shit someone who got it! Where's my mod points so I can give this an "insightful."

Don't forget that all of these guys are far left of him. Even further left then the democrats. How interesting world politics is.
