Due to their left-left pandering, a high majority went far to the NDP. Some went to the Liberals and big shock, they lost in areas except liberal strongholds(Toronto, etc). In Canadian politics, parties rise and fall all the time.

This is all political ammunition for the next election, but the chances of this actually getting anywhere before the parliament goes into recess is pretty slim. See Canada's government shuts down on Friday for the summer. The Liberal party has been repeatedly trying to dig at the minority, and topple the government. More than likely Canada will have a fall election, so any issue that is a traction issue is a good issue. This happened the last time when the Liberals were in power as well.

So what will happen is this: Bill will get stuck, parliament will close. Government will collapse sometime in the fall. Election comes up. This becomes a traction issue along with a pile of others, that amazing 6% of the electorate that hasn't decided who they're voting for is being swayed one way or the other. Back and forth, and we'll find out who is the next PM.

So on and so forth, welcome to Canadian politics.

Believe it or not they just finished paving an entire section of the 401 from London to Windsor in various heavy-weigh sections in concrete. You bet it stands up to it, properly laid concrete lasts forever. There was a section of roadway that I used to drive over as a little kid on my way to London, Ontario. This was down Kings Highway 2(people on the area might know where I'm talking). This section was in front of the old Caramuse Lime Plant(called LeFarge I think now) down to Beachville Lime. It was concrete, 3 lanes, and so on. It was 80-110km/h truck rated, they repaved it about 4 years ago once the county picked it up. But Caramuse paid for the entire thing at the time. I don't remember there ever being issues with it.

Anyway, there are plenty of roads in my area that have shifted away from gravel and gone back to Tar and Gravel. Or what we call split-gravel up here. Works well, lasts for ever. The only downside is, it's a bit slick the first summer or two. And if people don't drive the right speed during the first summer you can get weird road warping. But once that's done you get a road that's nearly as good as asphalt and rated around 80km/h.

The "transition" is more of a deadline. I've been using atsc for several years. In all probability, Canadian stations are simulcasting atsc right now.

Not really. If you're up near Toronto you'll find more stations, usually US upwards of 40. Further south more inland you get fewer. People in Hamilton can see around 15-20 with a mix of ATSC and non, with a heavy percentage of US. People around London, Ont., will see around 3-4 ATSC(generally US), the rest being Canadian around 5-6 if they're lucky. No one is doing it because the deadline just went up for the 'transition phase' about 3 weeks ago.

This doesn't even touch on the problem with piles of stations, and repeater stations around here now going defunct. CTV, Canwest-Global, CBC, etc., are all dumping stations. Independent stations(A-Channel), and so on are all going under. No one wants to spend money when they don't know if the station will be profitable a year or two from now.

Low-wave crystal AM receivers work well and can be adapted easily for receiving messages, and making your own low-power AM radio is very easy. I'd also suggest looking up the code methods used by people in East-Germany while they were under STASI watch to see how they got past the government. Not to mention all of the underground cells that were there.

My grandmother who lives in the middle of no-where Ontario, about 20mins from any major city, and 1.5hrs from Detroit/Buffalo/Port Huron lost all of the normal stations she used to get. NBC(Erie), ABC(Somewhere in PA) and CBS somewhere, along with PBS(Erie), and Fox(Toledo), a couple of other PBS stations, and a few others. Now the new stations Fox(Erie-ish), ABC(Detroit), ABC(Another in the Michigan area), and a CBS station somewhere in Michigan. No PBS or NBC stations at all.

Well I suppose that's fine, she's tech-savvy and understand this stuff. It's more of an irritation that what she did get, she no longer does. And what she does get, is in some cases poorer quality. And the first person to say satellite gets a beanbag to the head, for some reason the CRTC has something against US dishes.

Lets see, in the US you use Reverse-Onus laws and nail everyone's ass to the floor to prove things under proceeds of crime. If they can't prove it, the money goes right to the police/state/etc. Then everything else comes out of the general revenue stream.

In Canada, it can work on a similar method providing the courts can actually work it out(it's pretty rare due to the charter, and issues with breeches), in which case it's a 33/33/33-ish split between the police/municipal/provincial jurisdictions. In 90% of all cases up here however, everything is funded out of the general revenue stream. It's funny, but when you take someones property under proceeds of crime, it works fairly well. It's actually funny when you have US Prosecutors seizing $80m worth of property in Canada. Tell me that doesn't work well, and fund things down there.
