This really sounds like someone saw the Car Jouster, lets hope it's better thou, this was really just dancing about next to each other (you score points by "hitting" a section, not ripping it apeart!)
Why run WINE? So you can run open source windows software? (Wine is not an emulator, and need an X86 to run windows Software, the same will be true to Lindows at a guess).
600Mhz DOES NOT equal a 1.2GHz Intel.
And, yes a better graphics card is importent, ESP for a home user. What does a home user use there computer for, games and office, The dell will come with all the office software your'll need (Office) thats an extra £500 on the mac.
I'd love to own a Mac, but I need a laptop, and the ones avaible from Apple only have the "look good" factor (as I'm vain, I'll prob. still buy one, but most ppl will not, and it's a shame)
Radio 1 The best new music (main stream crap music)
Radio 2 The nation's favourite (Crappy music, talk shows)

Also, aren't iBooks fairly price-competitive at this point? Alas not really.
A 1.2+Ghz Intel, 128Mb RAM laptop w/ Firewire, DVD/CD-R & GeForce2 (32Mb) from dell will set you back about £1,200
£1,360.85 for a lesser spec'd apple (600Mhz, ATI RAGE 8Mb, but 256Mb)
I don't think these sort of compares mean much either, but the true is that Apple don't really have a "home" system that competes well. You take the above system, the PPC would give the Intel close battle, but an 8Mb g/c? And an extra 128Mb RAM could be picked up for £160 I'm sure.
For the first part (no apps) I think you missed the point a little, the parent was talking about OS Design, not app developers picking up on the OS.
BeOS was very well designed for MM, app developers did not pick up on it. That does not negate that fact it was well designed for the task, it might not oh been that practical usefull (RADAR used it, as did some other companys so it was a little usefully).
If you are developing a game to be XP (Cross platform) then it'll be easy to port to which ever platforms you choose.
If you develop a game for Linux, then port to Windows, your'll have to convert everything from the Linux model, to the windows model. The only area that'll help is the lack of "custom" graphics libs (DX-a-likes) that are Linux only.
James Bond and 007 are code names (this I beleive is in on of the books, after the films changed actors a few times, and the viewing public started asking questions).
People do not complain about AOL free CD's because AOL not a monopoly.
If I go into (insert any major shop) I can pick up a different free 'get online CD' (In the UK it's normally one of the following three, AOL, Yahoo or BT), then you have all the smaller ISP's, add on to that the commercial ISP's. Choose, you have it with ISP's, can you really say the same about the desktop?
As to 'free for home use', hell it virtual is, I know no one who paid for Windows, it comes preinstall on computers. As with Office, what you are suggesting is free upgrades... God bless capitalism...

But this really is not news... OMG MS are advertising in post offices!? What next, will they have adverts on TV? How will I escape!:)
Hmm... reminds me of Dark Angel.
