  1. class time is for class work on Colleges Work To Block Net in Class · · Score: 2, Insightful

There is nothing wrong with a teacher wanting to restrict the use of the internet in the classroom to the task at hand. Students should not be reading their email or instant-messaging on class time. This is not a violation of rights more than it is akin to the teacher asking students not to pass notes in class. It is when these restrictions carry outside the classroom that one must worry about rights violations.

the average viewer does not look at what os people on tv are using. they don't look at a screen and say, 'i'll be damned, ethel, that ain't windows!' it's cool that an 'alternative' os is being used on tv, but it is not going to shatter the television glass and spill into people's homes. people see it as just another technocyberhyperthingummie. maybe i am being cynical, but i think we are the only ones that cared to notice.

it's already annoying as hell when people walk around shouting into their status symbols (cell phones) just so poeple know they have one. i don't even want to know what will happen when those people get their hands on a jacket they can talk to. but i am sure we will all know about it. and do we even want to consider all the car accidents that will result? hmmm... natural selection can be a good thing...

unless i am mistaken, the newest plague of i.e. doesn't sound that innovative. they have been inadequate at supporting css in the past and it sounds from the article that they still are. sure they are allowed to make innovations. but some shiny new buttons and further isolation of non i.e. users is not innovative. i probably sound redundant, but why would a web developer want to test their pages on a browser that can't see them properly?
