You're right, it's probably pretty rare for a woman on OKCupid to initiate conversation. In my experience, it was because I literally didn't have time for it. I posted my profile, and suddenly people *did* start picking me. A lot.
At first I tried to reply to all messages from anyone who seemed okay. I genuinely wanted to give people a chance and not weed them out based on something superficial. But there were too many messages, I couldn't keep up, and it eventually became overwhelming and incredibly time consuming. So, I disappeared from OKCupid forever.
Now, I'm no expert on this incident, but Wikipedia says that the first report of a flying disk came in 1947. This memo was dated March 22, 1950. It doesn't say when the statement was issued (or that part has been redacted), but if people had already been speculating about flying saucers, then that eyewitness account proves nothing.
I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada (population 224,300). Here we like to complain about winter a lot, and how hard we have it, and how tough we are to get through it.
Truth is, Saskatchewan's pretty much one of the safest, uneventful places in the world to live as far as large-scale disasters go. We don't have earthquakes, we don't have volcanoes, and the nearest ocean is about a thousand miles away. We get the occasional tornado, but rarely do they do tons of damage (the deadliest killed 28 people in 1912). A couple years back we had one of the biggest blizzards on record, with two fatalities. Sometimes it rains a bunch, and in the 80's a person drowned in a flooded underpass. That's about it.
How prepared am I for a major emergency? I rely solely on tap water, I have a couple cans of tuna kicking around, and I generally drive my car until it's almost out of gas before filling up. In short, I'd be totally screwed.
I read about this pumpkin pie/lavendar thing on the Cosmo website a couple weeks ago. Never thought I'd see the day where Slashdot articles overlap Cosmo ones.
Interestingly, you can see the marked police car pull up right behind, during the incident. Is there any chance that this car had a dashboard camera (with video and audio)? If a person stopped in the middle of a public road has a reasonable expectation to privacy, then dashboard cams could NEVER be used. In this case, even if the marked car's dashboard cam was not recording at the time, the unmarked cop would have known of the possibility (consent?), and thus would not have had a "reasonable expectation of privacy."
I know a hypothetical camera is not the same as a real one. But it would be very interesting to know if/how that would fit into this scenario.
