I think the prupose behind star office is that businesses can run multiple OS's and not have to worry about reteaching employees to use multiple OS's. Because all versions of SO have that (and I agree, it's stupid) start menu button, all ause has to know is how to click that button to run most of the apps they'll need to.
I'm half suprised SO hasn't become it's own complete windowmanager:)
thee doesn't need to be an offical unix client -- there are already several clones/workalikes
they just need to give their blessing/approval to one... froinstance gnapster, which, in my opinion s even better than the real thing (it can connect to non napster servers)
IIR, the playstation 2 uses, for sound processing, the same chip that the orignal playstation uses for everything --so it just runs old playstation games off of the sound chip

actually, I think that a console could have a much more rushed OS. Why? Because much of the system could be on a game's cd/DVD. I might be wrong, but Dreamcast can do this --load WINCE off of a game disc. therefore, the OS could be modified at the drop of the hat for new programs...
the code morphing/translation software IMPROVES performance of the chip. Furtermore, it's so Transmeta can change the VLIW instructions for future chips, without breaking compatiblity.
actually, it wasn't legal incompetance. The deal's fine print clearly (well, clearly in legalese) stated that CA and Oregon residents were not required to comit to the deal --indeed it says they are not required to pay back the $400. It seems to me more either an acounting screw-up (to get the losses incurred noted in accounts as a loan --therefore equaling capital, rather than an expediture) or a marketing mistake.
most ATM cards can now be used as debit cards. I don't know about the rest of you, but before I was eighteen I had an ATM card --since I had a bank account
Does this work with other clones (for example the Symbol PPT 1500, and ppt 1800) it seems it should since they are largely palm III's with some extra doodads (ie, more ram, scanner, ethernet )
whe n I wqs in highschool, BESS (THE BRAIN DEAD labrador) would only block the web browser, I could view anything I wanted using Frontpage...

There's a Boring, Oregon...

more users of linux == more products for linux
Prices are in pounds because the registrar is actually physically located in Britain
Didn't Win 98 come out at the same time as the iMac?
If so, then I think Win 98 was a large reason for the sudden glut of USB devices.
Simply because Win98 was the first x86 os that, AFIAK, had passable USB support.
airport is simply regular 802.11, so i'm sure you could find a cheaper pcmcia card from another manufacteror

Why uses code morphing?
-because AIUI (as I understand it)
the code morphing/translation software IMPROVES performance of the chip.
Furtermore, it's so Transmeta can change the VLIW instructions for future chips, without breaking compatiblity.
just a guess---
encoding maybe?
This a quote of Isaac Asimov right>

can some one elighten me why having a patent profolio is useful to a generic systerm cloner?
is just useful for patent trading reasons?

I think that the voodoo rush pile of garbage that bore the herc name was more aproblem of 3dfx than herc...

Actually, most of Suffolk has Cable modems from Cablevision . The reason being, AFAIK, is that the cablevision executives live on Long Island
.
yeah, but the minidisc isn't solid state.
Just so people know, AIWA is owned by Sony
