After messing around with preferences, I think if you go back to Classic Index, they go away. Least it did for me in Firefox with Noscript running. http://slashdot.org/users.pl?op=edithome
I happen to agree with you about using the slashdot method. While imperfect, using a lot of eyeballs to look at something usually finds mistakes. Sort of like having the source code available for anyone to look at. Sure, it can be gamed, but it's lots less likely.
When they do burn out (happened twice to me), you'll think you have a fire in the house due to the smell. I haven't actually seen one burn out in person, but it's a bit scary. I don't want my house burned down. Also, I live in a cold part of USA, so exterior bulbs are very slow to give off enough light. I only hope that my microwave and regular oven can handle them. Heh, my wife insisted all lights be exchanged for CFLs when we moved into our new house. So I saved the old bulbs just in case.
Quorum calls in the US Senate can be called at almost anytime. That makes it functionally the same as a filibuster, but without the talking. Cloture is how to get around this iirc.
You are probably correct. MS realizes it needs to keep a stranglehold on market share. Mind you, if I was an Icelandic MCP being pressured by MS, I'd declare bankrupcy and reopen under a different name, and continue to install MS software while ignoring the licenses. MS sometimes looks the other way about piracy (China?).
And it's nothing special. Running it on a laptop and desktop. It has bugs (reported), but Ubuntu actually feels better imho. So I'm likely to dump it soon, and since WoW runs with Wine, I'm really close to getting rid of all the hassles with MS. I've gotten alot of co-workers to switch, but convincing "great-aunt Sally" types is another thing.
And I remember in the 70s stories about a new ice age coming. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,944914,00.html A little searching finds that there is a cycle of warnings going on all last century, We don't know enough to tell one way or other, although if I had a choice, I'd rather have global warming.
hmmm...not too many people will remember...

ender's game was originally not a book. it was a serialized novella in analog magazine.

Maybe someone could figure out a Slashdot method of peer review.
So you gave up on that whole water cooling thing, eh?
Xenu knew!

Wow. A new slashdot effect? Look at the results that show up in google: http://www.google.com/#q=indianakim+computers&hl=en&safe=off&start=10&sa=N&fp=ym9qpMmDGWc
Anyone find the BT copy of this yet? ;)

In Wisconsin, you can't buy a beer at 18. But you can drink it, in a bar, at any age, as long as your legal guardian buys it for you.
And how often have you called MS for support? I have never done so, personally, or professionally. And I don't even recall meeting anyone who has.
Just give us a url for your ISP and a few of us will check out the TOS :)

"I am not married" negates your comment. Try that when you are married :)
The article may be wrong. Per http://www.informationweek.com/news/hardware/supercomputers/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=213000842&subSection=News it's 1.6 PB of memory
