Rarely does the American gov't mandate technology specifications. This only happens after much debate and input from consumers and technology companies. The end result may be slower adoption, but technology that works and lasts.

I work with a lot of Taiwanese engineers. They don't consider forwarding stolen information to China to be stealing. They all believe that helping the Motherland is their duty.

It's funny that the U.S. is so vociferous about protecting Taiwan when the Taiwanese are already helping China out. Once Taiwan is folded back in to China, all those fancy weapons and huge investments in Taiwanese industry will benefit their biggest enemy.

When Bush is allowed to speak extemporaneously, his staff must be cringing. I guess that's why he rarely does news conferences, unlike previous presidents. Even when he does official events he rarely takes questions. It's a shame that the so-called leader of the free world is an illiterate boob.

With technologies such as Digital Cameras, Camcorders, DVD etc. Japan seems to be clearly in the lead.

These are commodity items. Are you serious? These are applications of trivial technology. Japan took the lead in teh development of these products because 50 years ago they were China. They were laughed at because they couldn't manufacture solid products.

30 years of practice and they got good. Now China is supplanting them. Most people look down on Chinese made products. Check back in 20 years. Most of the Japanese companies will be out of business because they can't compete with the small margins.
