    The government's duty is to obey the people. If the government can make drastic decisions such as this without the consent of a majority of the people, we will keep seeing the same corruption and stupidity that plagues us currently.

    Then they'll just piss more people off. If they remove even more freedoms, they might even alert the average idiot. Then again, I doubt they would do anything, as most people don't even know how to fight for their rights anymore, or care to do so. Some of them even think that breaking the law is always 'bad', I'm willing to bet.

    As I already said, in that case, it's probably best to have it on. If you have tons of RAM, the swap file will only slow you down.

    Competition, man. It solves all. There's probably hundreds, if not thousands, of ISPs in his area alone that offer an unlimited data plan. They're just invisible!

    But that applies to regular downloading, too. It depends on the server location, its connection speed, your connection speed (which isn't always constant), and how much traffic the server is getting at the time.

    So get another ISP! There's always thousands of ISPs in all areas of the world. Competition ensures that at least some of them follow good practices. Get with the times, man.

    No, the swap file is much slower than RAM (that and I have 4GB of RAM and close applications that I don't use). Not to mention that it uses hard drive space and if it somehow gets corrupted, it will contain incorrect contents. If you're really low on RAM, it's pretty much a last resort.

    You're forgetting that it's completely possible to steal money (the pirates money) that only exists in the future of an alternate dimension where the artist/business made more money. Also, if a sale could ever have occurred and something prevented it from happening, potential profit was stolen and whoever made this sale not happen should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!

    Perfectly legitimate reason to pirate something. I certainly know that if I was looking forward to a game or something and they installed crippling DRM in it, I'd pirate it. It's certainly better than buying it, thereby rewarding them with your money.

    Apparently, some people are also stupid enough to believe that profit (and by profit, I of course mean money that the pirate owns and has not given to the artist/business yet) that only exists in the future of an alternate dimension where the artist/business made more money can actually be stolen.

    I usually look at the comments beforehand. I make sure to not download torrents with only a few seeds and such (easy if it's something big like Windows 7) and that have a bunch of comments telling me it's a virus.

    This is completely true. Many of the less experienced users do get viruses, with or without piracy.

    This is what I'm saying. If something is so carefully thought out that even a knowledgeable user with strong anti-virus software can't prevent themselves from getting 'infected' by the virus, well, it's likely that they've already found a way around that "UAC" protection. Maybe. I'm not trying to say it isn't helpful, it probably is. I'm just saying that a knowledgeable user with a good anti-virus software can prevent themselves from getting 99.99% of the viruses out there.

    Close! I'd estimate around 95% of users don't know how to do much more than access a website or operate a television remote.

    This is true, Windows 7 doesn't add anything groundbreaking. There's no reason to upgrade to it except a few very small reasons.

    If something could potentially be used in a bad way, even if most people aren't going to abuse it, it must immediately be banned! So, basically, anything that can be used as a weapon, too. Which is... pretty much everything.
