You shoulda learned from the gas-crunch of the 1970s. You based your whole living arrangement and life on cheap gas and lo and behold, it has gone up in price!
The "Free Market" will work this out for you. You'll either die, or you'll move. Your lifestyle might take a hit, but hey, you shoulda been saving for a rainy day.
Small country, few airports (one international?) and the USA picks up their defense budget because we were stupid and didn't think the displaced Arabs would be pissed.
Lots of people on slashdot extoll the virtues of un-fettered capitalism. "No need for government regulation, sue those who breach their contract!". Unfortunately, when the company folds protecting the stakeholders there is nobody left to sue! Oooops! There goes that darn accountability!
He's advocating using sound energy efficient design principals in the event that you will be building a house. I don't think his scope is 'world wide'. When energy costs keep climbing and climbing (see: gasoline, electricity, natural gas) it's a good idea. If costs continue to climb at their current rate, your energy costs might begin to approach your mortgage payment!
It's the 'separation from god' that really scares the suckers. I'm sure if 'hell' were a bottomless pit of fluffy pillows, there would be just as many believers.
In fact, most of the most popular books make for an awful reading experience. R.L. Stine could have come up with a more terrible vision of the 'stick' than a 'lake of fire'. Sheesh.
I experience troubles switching between tabs...the application simply does react to my mouse-click for seconds at a time. The thing also pegs one of my processors nearly all the time.
FireFox is going to lose people if they don't focus on bug fixes and avoid the temptation of feature creep.
We decide together? Really? No, actually, we don't decide together. The lobbyists with the most money decide. See how MADD pushed through the absurd.08 BAC levels and the DUI check points. It is my responsibility as an American Citizen to ignore unjust laws, and DUI laws are unjust. The fact that you support current DUI laws (which allow for check points where a piggie can examine you with no probable cause) makes you an authorotarian coward with boundry issues.
People can drive with any dose of coughsyrup in their system. We're making arbitrary differentiations between different intoxicants when we make DUI laws so punative.
The law is broken and biased so I lobby against them. It's an uphill climb, but I'm game.
I hope that you, for cowardly suggesting that we give up even more rights in the name of 'safety', get hit by a drunk driver.
I respond to a guy posting an obvious dig at the Democrats...he basically insinuated that they had a plan to abuse this law which was why they 'let it pass' despite their thin majority.
So I do what any good slashdotter would do, give them the snarky over-the-top reply they were trolling for!
Bloggers will report positions to the Shiite insurgents who are supported by the Iraqi Government, and the war will go so badly they'll have to pull out due to attrition.
You are unwilling to take a life-style hit to help keep the Earth in a comfortable state. So what if it isn't a real problem...these changes can only improve our quality of life. If it is a real problem, we'd be fools not to start experimenting with ways to shift the climate back ASAP.
In your lifetime, climate shift will make everything more expensive. I've got a paid-for house and six-figure income. I'm not TOO worried. How you doing?
They grew up with parents who could provide a comfy lifestyle on a single income. They grew up with greedy parents who didn't think for the future and kept electing politicians that favored the rich and corporate. Now, they can't get close to the lifestyle they enjoyed growing up, and that their parents told them was theirs if they 'worked hard enough'.
Somehow, I don't think their parents meant '4 jobs' when they said 'worked hard enough'.
Society made the promise of a certain lifestyle level through media (our culture) and family. Society however, didn't hold up it's end of the bargain. Therefore, people are rejecting more and more of our societal norms. Why take the bad restrictive crap when the good stuff hasn't shown up?
That an authoritarian President's war would serve to reduce his voting base through attrition?

Shame this gear won't be ready (or funded) for the guys returning from Iraq RIGHT NOW.
They just get moldy 'recovery rooms' and a pat on the back for their service in an optional police action.

Just cause it works there, etc...
I think there are a few other concepts out there...

Something about weird non-standard systems gets me going. I think I want this system. Dunno what for or why,but I want it.
Making strong un-justified claims about a region you've never even been to?
I've been to Europe often, and yes, that is how it works. I've seen it on trains, I've seen it in a car.
This might be the wake-up call you need...start questioning what US society and government tells you.
I dunno if pricing schedules are really a 'trade secret' tho. I guess they changed the definition of 'trade secret' when I wasn't looking.

Capitalism puts the smack down on the hippy dippy Apple company once again!
I'm guessing you need a phone-line sos yer requests can be transmitted?

Is that what you were thinking?
What does the MPAA do that the gaming ratings and review board doesn't?
Both mediums get ratings, and the retailers are on the honor system to enforce them.
Maybe the problem is the stores selling the games...

I'm confused...no modern nation in the world has anything even close to a 'free market'. Government subsidies?!
I mean, just look at the IM networks.
