In the cut throat isp business eventually one of the big players will push the envelope and actually offer a true broadband for a decent price, and everyone else will have to scramble to adjust, starting a price war.
Why do you think that? I'm more inclined to think that the ISPs will act as a cartel.
Who else would build the new weapons used to bring freedom and peace to the world?
Also, living in a country of will-fully ignorant anti-intellectuals means you are more valuable to those with money. Stay here and profit until you really can't stand it, then leave/
It sounds horrible, but I really see this war as unethical and honor-less and the reflects on the men fighting it. I still do respect those men who were already in the military before Bush went on this bender. They just want to protect the country and they are being abused. Anyone who enlisted after 2004 when it was obvious to the nation that Bush was a liar...not so much respect.
But still...I just don't care what happens to suckers who believe the lies told them by government.
How do you figure that? Seems like the British were the bullies in that event...
I do agree with you in general, this nation has become quite arrogant and abrasive with power. Ever since WWII the USA has had foreign policies which I found/find offensive and a citizen of the USA. Notably, the forcing of our backwards drug laws on other nations in return for trade.
OK, I was out of line accusing you of being a partisan hack. There was some brain pain once I realized that all the examples given were done to push Conservative agendas. Ignoring AIDS, repressing sexuality in children, and ignoring global warming and stem cells.
Got any examples of a president putting political pressure on the Surgeon General to advance liberal agends?
I used to be furious that our soldiers were dying for a lie in the desert...then I learned that the military voted Bush in 2004...88%...and they kept spouting the usual lies on TV. I quit caring about them.
Then, amazingly, I just quit caring about Iraq. Nobody I care about is over there fighting that honor-less conflict.
*shrug*
Patriotism is for suckers. Citizenship is a business relationship, and that is IT! It's give and take. What can the country do for me, in return for my support.
If all 50 states pass such laws, yet their representatives in the national legislature won't vote to dismantle the REAL ID act....what happens?
The Federal Government is nothing without the states, especially when the military (and lots o' national guard units) is stuck cab-deep in the Iraqi sand.
I wish I had mod points, but I totally agree with you. Heinlein had some odd (to me anyway) social beliefs that were just there, not examined or explored.
Maybe I'll rant about his 'rugged individualist' ideals later:)
That's right bitch. We will have our rights, even those the Conservatives in this country want to take them. Liberals are better paid, better educated and perform all the real services you require.
Any chump can work on a car, not many can work on computers. Guess how liberal the computer workers are?
Your argument sounds faintly similar. It doesn't matter if you are paid low, you do your job with integrity oryou quit and do something else. WTF mate?
I write my congress people with pen and paper, and I show up for anti-war rallies. I vote for the least evil candidate, and still the congress has no balls and the President is a constitution-ignoring traitor.
But go ahead, be snarky. It just encourages me to take more advantage of the system.
It's very clear to me that our politicians care not about the country, but what their country can do for them.
I have decided to adopt the same opinions. I was born in the USA and given the usual indoctrination about the 'land of the free' and 'home of the brave'. How strange the same people who railed against the commies because they spy on their people and lie to them, are requesting that the USA spy on it's people too! THey don't have to ask for lies, Bush already did that when he lied about Yellow Cake, WMDs and Saddam's links to Al-Quieda.
As soon as it is no longer profitable, I'm taking my well-paid skills to another land to contribute to their economy.
Come on, knowledge of Microsoft's shadey buisness and programming practices has been well documented for over a decade. Plenty of time to migrate away. W2k is going to fade away, and I'm already looking into becoming all-Linux here at home. My employer still uses windows on employee machines, but I don't care because I only do work-related stuff on the laptop. I suppose I might want to segregate the VPN-using MS machine from the rest of my network incase Vista+1 decides to sniff my packets or something.
I think my hand would fall off if I needed to use a controller to provide input to a Civ game! My monitor provides more dots than an HD TV and much more sharply at that. I couldn't imagine how cluttered or dumbed-down the UI would need to be on a console.
Maybe I'm wrong. I am a builder more than a war-monger, tho, and I feel this will simply be another turn-based war game.
As long as there is someone else inthe world doing a worse job of a free society, whatever police-state tactics we've got going on are just fine, eh?
Papers please! You have nothing to fear if you've done nothing wrong. Unless you're one of dozens being exonerated after spending years of their lives in prison.

Of course many groups do it...we nerds are sticklers for accuracy...hence the angst over 'hacker'/'cracker'.
I think it is delightfully ironic that a religious term is having it's meaning twisted to further a secular goal.
Considering how religious people have been claiming their own definitions for well-established words these past few decades...
Did Churchill come to power in equally suspect manners?
I certainly wouldn't want to live in some town of rich jerkoffs playing the real-estate game with scared money.
So is everyone else in this country...why else would they buy crap goods at WalMart and Target?
I consider free entertainment my right as an American who has to subsidize hate groups and scumbag corporations with his taxes.
Oh, if they catch me I'll pay my fine and it'll hurt. No vacation this year kids! But you know what? The Risk is just fine...
I've been complaining and writing letters and going to protests since 2003. NOTHING has changed.
What can I do?
It's just easier to let it go, let the Bush voters bleed out into the desert sand like they deserve.
They wanted this un-needed war, and they're mostly dying for it, so let them die.
As for the Iraqis...yeah I feel horrible...but what can I do?
What the fuck is wrong with you?! It certainly matters why a country goes to war!
It sounds horrible, but I really see this war as unethical and honor-less and the reflects on the men fighting it. Don't even bring Clinton into this.
Just about every point in that rant is correct in my opinion.
Obviously, not everyone in the South is a leeching hypocritical moralizing douchebag...but right on...
If all 50 states pass such laws, yet their representatives in the national legislature won't vote to dismantle the REAL ID act....what happens?

This will not end well...

I use notes at work, and love the ability to peek at others' calendars and find free time. I'd love that feature at home.
