  1. Oh I can think of a few... on Indian College Students Face Bleak Prospects · · Score: 1

Can you imagine? A fourth year student is having trouble with new code...but the root cause is a module he wrote 4 years ago.

The student isn't really ready to PD this mess...so will the teachers then be required to dig into a large, unique, code base built over four years to help a student? I suppose they could hire people to help in this capacity...but to expect a student to 'sink or swim' would be cruel!

  2. Yes...let us ignore injustice. on Warner CEO Admits His Kids Stole Music · · Score: 1

Injustice breeds contempt for the law.

well..it's not like people have much respect for Copyright law anyway.

Regular people reading this story will probably be more likely to infringe, just out of spite.

Imagine if 1/4 of the adults in the USA traded copywritten music.

  3. So? on Millimeter-Wave Weapon Certified For Use In Iraq · · Score: 1

Legitimacy of the grievance has no bearing on the right of a person to express that grievance.

It is how you express that grievance that counts.

Otherwise, we have 3k+ dead soldiers who died for nothing at all.

  4. And you justify your uninteresting life... on What's the Coolest Thing You've Ever Built? · · Score: 1

...by doing what any extant life form is capapble of doing: reproduction. You must be so proud. I guess if it makes you happy, that's a good thing.

  5. Re:Hope he's smarter than his parents! on What's the Coolest Thing You've Ever Built? · · Score: 1

Absolutely, but I have the feeling that the original poster and those who down-modded my snarky comments are of the kind who believe themselves to be amazing and important because they can reproduce.

  6. Hope he's smarter than his parents! on What's the Coolest Thing You've Ever Built? · · Score: 0, Troll

Because, even if you were his mother, you didn't 'build' him any more than you 'built' that giant corn-speckled turd you just dropped off!

  7. Stealth Roach-Clip on What's the Coolest Thing You've Ever Built? · · Score: 1

I had a fancy Williams-Sonoma aluminum cork screw and bottle opener. It was a flat oval and the end opposite the bottle opener hook split open like wings. The wings revealed a cork screw, which was yanked out of the gizmo the third time I opened a bottle with it.

So, a little epoxy and an old aligator clip...I have a stealth bottle-opener and roach clip.

Was also involved with 'Odyssey/Olympics of the Mind', but that was lame because every team had parental help and the money rules were shat upon constantly.

  8. The old 'it is legal' argument. on FBI Taps Cell Phone Microphones in Mafia Case · · Score: 1

We're not falling for that one! I can't wait until a Democrat controlled gov't uses these privacy-invading laws to expose fundamental religious 'tards for mistreating the litters of children they keep shitting out! You can't hit your kid with a stick if he misbehaves, Mr. Savage, this is 2006.

    (See, it goes both ways)

  9. Why MUST we do SOMETHING?! on Homeland Security Tracks Information of Travelers · · Score: 1

What is with this desire to act when all the available options are poor? That kind of thinking got our forces to leave Afghanistan way before they should have...and shipped them into an unwinnable hellhole.

  10. If you chose anything other than (a)... on Homeland Security Tracks Information of Travelers · · Score: 0, Flamebait

    ...you hate Amurrica!

  11. It leads to distrust, I think. on MPAA Kills California Anti-Pretexting Bill · · Score: 1

After reading this article, I am less inclined to trust a stranger or someone I don't know well. I will assume they are lying to me and I will not help them for fear of being taken advantage of.

Shit like this degrades society...smells like 'ends justify the means' to me and I don't like it.

  12. COBRA is Expensive! on Health Insurance for the Self-Employed? · · Score: 1

My quit her public school teaching job a month before we got married, and we considered getting the COBRA coverage for that one month gap. The cost was like 10 times what she had been paying out of her paycheck when employed. Unless you're making well over $100,000 gross yearly, you're gonna get raped.

But hey, that's the price for choice, right?

  13. Too bad the pro drivers are so good. on Americans Drove Less in 2005 · · Score: 1

I wouldn't mind seeing a few asshole SUV drivers crushed by a big rig. Quite a few men and women have tried to push my Focus arround while driving their SUVs, whether due to sheer ignorance or impotent rage, I cannot say.

Some day i'm gonna follow those fuckers to a parking lot and do to them with my hands what they did to me with their two-ton douche-mobile.

  14. It's bad enough that the police can do this... on MPAA Kills California Anti-Pretexting Bill · · Score: 2, Insightful

But now companies and PIs can too? Can the average guy 'pretext' as well, or will he get punished? I can't really tell from the article.

Makes me want to break more laws....let's see...what can I do that has a low chance of getting caught...

  15. Firearms, Alcohol, Videogames... on Ban On Louisiana Video Game Law Now Permanent · · Score: 1

So the idea is that a child at 16 can drive a freakin' motor vehicle but cannot play a violent video game?

    Buh?

They could just act out their violent fantasys with the auto...mow down a bunch of Wal*Mart shoppers in the parking lot and you'll get a lesser sentence than if you used a gun or knife!

Lucky for us, that rarely happens.

  16. I'm cool with the differential on Universal Wants a Slice of Apple's iPod Pie · · Score: 1

We could wipe out all accidents, but it would take much longer to get anywhere. I think we have a nice balance of speed/death right now.

  17. Fuckin' A Right! on Universal Wants a Slice of Apple's iPod Pie · · Score: 5, Insightful

They have this shit up in Canada for recordable media...but the Canadians seemed to have kept the cost and scope reasonable.

I have too easy a time imagining this 'fee' increasing every year, every time you buy a new music-related device.

So yeah...they pull this off and I will have ZERO ethical issues about copying every bit of music I can find. Greedy fucks.

  18. HippyDippy Liberal Content Will Survive! on Internet Archive Gets DMCA Exemption · · Score: 1

It will be the singularity that we've all heard of. No more Disney, no more Pop Music, ahhh...only content that nobody was willing to pay for will survive. Should be refreshing!

  19. Nukes. on US Bans Sales of iPods To North Korea · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Bush's arrogance and 'toughguy' stance on foreign policy has failed miserably. Whether Cunny Rice or Mikey Bolton helped or hindered that success is unknown. Now he's doing what....economic sanctions? Like the UN and Asian nations suggested? Oh my. What has Bush been RIGHT about so far? I guess he's words about space exploration...but I bet he left that un-funded just like all his other 'initiatives'.

  20. Give up another freedom! on Polonium-210 Available Through Mail Order · · Score: 1

Indeed...American Citizens cannot be trusted with nuclear materials...shit they can't even be trusted with a goddamn telephone it seems, judging by the evesdropping our government does.

Really getting disillusioned by the land that claims to be "Land of the Free, and Home of the Brave".

  21. "Land of the Free". on Justice Department To Review Domestic Spying · · Score: 1

We're becoming more and more like the European Surveilance State...and who would have thought the REPUBLICANS would be driving it.

I thought I could at least trust the Republicans to spend less of my money and to reduce gov't intrusion into my private life....now what the fuck are they good for?!

  22. 'Revisionist History'? on Justice Department To Review Domestic Spying · · Score: 1

Are you implying that Bush's spy plan was constitutional? I don't see where 'revisionist history' comes into play here...Bush and Co. seem to prefer 'revisionist present' where they lie through their teeth until the evidence of their evilness can no longer be denied.

    lying is evil.

I've never been cut-off by a hybrid, despite seeing a few a day...but I'm constantly being cut-off by SUVs driven in a threatening manner.

Perhaps because there are so many more of the polluting cave-man-technology safety blankets on the roads in the USA?

  25. Slavery was 'part of society' as well. on Newt Gingrich Says Free Speech May Be Forfeit · · Score: 1

And we excised that cancer at great cost to our young nation. Puritanical laws are steadily being removed from the books as we speak (e.g. Sodomy laws, co-habititation laws, anti-gay laws) This all indicates that society is shifting away from using Christianity as the sole source of our laws. We don't want to shun people for not following some obscure tenent of a savage race of nomads. We don't want to keep other humans as property.

Besides, read up on some of the founding fathers. You'll find that the vast amjority did not believe in religion as we know it, but had a different non-dogmatic, non-doctrinal vision of a 'creator'.

Also, the Treaty of Tripoli is pretty clear that the USA is NOT a 'Christian Nation'.
