having driven manuals, AT, AT w/clutchless shifting at the stick, AT w/paddles, on nearly the same model car (dealer loaners) i find automatics of any type more annoying, either for the reasons GP noted (poor shifting choices mostly), or because for 95% of driving time its not necessary to manage the gearing effectively. when I get to that 5%, I either pound frantically for a nonexistent clutch (and sometimes hit the brake...) or forget to shift entirely because im not in 'what gear should i be in' mode. its an annoying combination of a helping hand and pseudo-control. also shifting in an AT is nothing like shifting a manual. you dont get a clutch, so you cant control when you engage the gears. you push the stick/button and it goes. no feathering makes it not the same. i can start my car in 3rd gear if i really want to, do you know of an AT that can do that?
griping about crappy software is not the same as not being able to drive it. AT drives 'adequately'. im not used to 'adequately', im used to 'cylinders to the asphalt, so dont screw up'.
really? ive had the service for nearly 4 years now, and had very little issue with them customer service wise. ive called about several billing issues and theyve always been corrected completely and promptly.
yea its a cellphone company, and in general they are evil and such, but ive gotten much better service from them than att/cingular, who removed a frequency my phone was using at the time, and denied it until they suggested i purchase a new phone and 'maybe it will work better'.
biggest issue i have with sprint is the general coverage limitation to cities and such.
i think the point is that 1) all the record companies set the same price and 2) they all raised their prices together. these two facts seem to demonstrate collusion in the market. that being the case or not is up to the courts.
the response to this is the same to the AC questioning me on my handle - slashdot is not a 'business' or 'professional' setting, and so the rules are not the same. besides the lack of some punctuation/capitalization (which i dont thing are as necessary as you do, apparently). there are no spelling errors.
did you only have an ad hominem attack, or would you like to contribute something worthwhile?
oh yes, i use my slashdot handle for all matters, both personal and professional. in fact ive legally changed my name to that, and its my vanity license plate as well./s
as a hiring manger, if i see an address like the one you outlined there, the first thing that jumps out at me is 'completely unprofessional'. thats a major strike you dont want or need against you, and that you chose to overlook that or (even worse) shove in my face that you dont care is a a huge warning sign that you are going to be a trouble employee should we end up hiring you.
image matters, no matter how much you want it not to.
in this age, when you can have multiple addresses easily from yahoo/gmail/etc, why not just have a second 'professional' address for work related matters? unless youre applying for a job at a strip joint.
say, for example, the cable is bad, or the card needs to be powercycled for some reason. where is your PXE god now? also, youve just ruined a perfectly good grub boot sector (not that its terribly hard to replace, but youve done it without needing to).
i never understood how they get away with the pricing on picocell devices - you are essentially doing them a favor by a) providing bandwidth for calls b) still using your minutes to do so c) paying money up front, and in some cases d) paying a monthly fee.
these devices keep you off carrier towers, and effectively reduce their overhead.
Typically, masking passwords doesn't even increase security...

maybe hes referring to the case where people write their now very complex and long passwords (by requirement of the system) down so that they can be remembered properly.
this a wild, pull it out of my ass guess. so no snarky retorts. not that anyone does that on the internet.
ive bought a couple drives that came limited to 1.5gbps using a jumper. not that any drive you are buying on the market is coming close to saturating that bus, mind you.
have to disagree with you there chief.

Why someone discovering 14 year old internet technology [citation needed] made the front page of /. is beyond me...
