The source code in the BSD driver archive looks different. It doesn't link to a static library for a
kernel module. Is this only because the architecture of BSD is different, or is the driver part for BSD more open than the Linux driver?
It's not a gcc problem this time. Only C++ binaries are incompatible between gcc 2.x and gcc 3.2. The NVIDIA_kernel drivers have to be compiled for the right kernel.
The drivers on the NVIDIA page for Mandrake 8.2 contain the driver in the file/lib/modules/2.4.18-6mdk/kernel/drivers/video/NVdr iver,
so they only work with the 2.4.18-6mdk kernel.
You need to rebuild the source package, and you'll get the right one:/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/video/NVd river
So NVIDIA are to blame, because they don't provide the right binary drivers for MDK 9.0.
There are also cheap CD writers that have problems with 700 MB images, even if you try to write them on
700 MB CDs.
For instance I've tried to write an 800MB VCD image
(there's no overburning involved) using the IDE writer in the Fujitsu Siemens P4 machine at work. The writer couldn't finish the lead-out. I could burn the same image just fine on my old TEAC 4x SCSI writer.
That depends on which brand will be stronger. Lots of people I know, that aren't in the Internet Explorer majority wouldn't use Mozilla, because they cannot associate something with that name. They use the IMHO bloated Netscape 7 with the disabled popup blocker instead.
Many newbies speak of Linux 8.0 instead of RedHat, because they can remember the name of their kernel but not that of their distribution.
You totally miss the point. Running as root is really dangerous. It will enable something like our favourite Windows Security Flaws[TM] on Linux. This will give Linux a bad name.
To me, this distribution disqualifies itself by that.
P.S. All people who have commented on the South African government should consider whether they know enough about it before they make comments, some conceptions are about 10 years out of date...
I'm sure there are some US citizens who believe.za still has the apartheid regime. But I must admit I haven't read that law either, it would give me a headache.
Anyway, I am not in jail, and I think my PLF mirror should be ok too (until we get software patents)...
Good to hear. But I'm sure you'll also get software patents like the rest of us, WIPO will take care of that.
I'd consider it equal feature-wise, but CDex is free software, so it's suited as an answer to this article.
If you thought you needed Exact Audio Copy for scratched CDs, CDex also has a safe ripping mode based on cdparanoia by
xiph.org (yes, the vorbis guys).
Then why don't you use a native Linux application like grip, that's what I use. You need to install the notlame package from plf, if you want mp3 instead of ogg.
BTW you can upgrade to Mandrake 9.0, it's finished now.
That wouldn't be possible. The german laws of political asylum are really strict. The don't grant it to anyone coming to Germany via a safe third country. The United States would be one of thouse safe countries.
I totally agree with you. A source package keeps everything needed to build a program in one file.
There's another easy way for unpacking a rpm (or
most other archive formats into it's own directory with unarc foobar.rpm
Get unarc, a simple perl script from
http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~epa98/work/apps/unarc/
There's a cygwin port of MPlayer, but I haven't tested it. If you're a Windows developer, go to www.mlayerhq.hu and help them.
- RealAudio ATRC (sony atrac3) audio support (using binary plugin)
It should be possible to play ATRAC content with mplayer, at least on x86 platforms. The source code in the BSD driver archive looks different. It doesn't link to a static library for a kernel module. Wrong, they searched the web for clit:
10 million hits, first one featuring Cartman's mom in a porn movie.
The cheapest notebook on the D*ll page you've linked has a price tag of $979.
$979 vs. $300, see the difference?

I hope they don't put Mandrake contributor and Mozilla translator Buchan Milne in prison now.
The Windows version is fine, but I couldn't get it to run on Linux (it just crashes the X server).
The other lgames aren't bad either, especially the tetris clone ltris.

Really? I think it's rather a reward for stupidity that wouldn't be possible anywhere else.

The same rule applies to my name.
That would be really nice. Maybe tremor would benefit from this. Has anybody compiled that program for a XScale machine?
You can at least play the unencrypted Windows Media stuff with MPlayer, but I doubt that they will use such hacks.
