    "Why should I, as a Windows Admin, have to know precisely how to edit various INI files and the system registry to change settings, when I can just click something in a GUI?" easy... because when you're managing 500 computers, and need to make a change on *ALL* of them, it's much easier to push out a login script that sets a specific registry value, or one that runs netsh.

    Oh, and PS... it slows me down to take my hands off of the keyboard to use the mouse

    Yes regedit will generarate that file for you for the registry... but if you need to change firewall rules on all of the computers, you can't beat netsh

    it appears to somewhat work (as a user of beta 5 myself)

    a lot of ads don't show, and are blocked, but a bunch are making it through, even though they should be blocked.

    there are still a couple of other bugs

    The important thing to note though is that the constitutions isn't so much a list of what the government can do, but more what it can't

    It specifically says that they can do A, B, C, D, and everything else is off-limits...

    Not true, the fact that the radiation detector spiked is probable cause, As would be a drug dog indicating on the car.

    True Story: My wife's cousin is a K9-unit State trooper who pulled a car over for a tail-light out. it was being driven by a pair of 70-ish year-old women. He has the windows in his cruiser cracked for his dog, and the dog started going nuts. He let the dog out, and it immediately indicated on the trunk of the car. That was sufficient for "Probably Cause" to search the vehicle. In the trunk were two suitcases of marijuana, worth an estimated $150,000

    You've gotta be careful with the 4th amendment, it doesn't read that they need a warrant...

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. * emphasis mine

    I've fried more than my fair share of LEDs in my time...
    some advice... don't try soldering directly to the leads without a heat-sink... they don't like 700degree(F) temps for any period time.
    also... if they're rated for 12 volts... 20V is too much (and they stink after being fried this way)

    I don't think legislation is the answer... and doubly so when it comes to anything technology related... and doubly so again when it comes the the internet.

    a) who has jurisdiction?
    b) we're talking about politicians writing the laws. -- never a good idea

    I think that the "real" solution is to re-write e-mail protocols... but I'll be the first to admit, I don't have a good solution either.

    Re firefox, what I meant was that you cannot enforce, distribute and lock in configuration changes. You can indeed distribute and lock down configuration changes - I'd point you to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences as a start

    You make a very good point:
    "The absence of an observation" is not logically equivalent to "The observation of an absence"

    I believe the point isn't that they failed to make an observation (Absence of an observation) but rather that they made the observation, and didn't detect anything.

    This [theoretically] would prove that given current hypotheses about gravitational waves, are either a) not accurate or b) not measurable with current equipment

    Statistics my dear eosp... If I control 1 node, impossible, 10 nodes, what is the probability, 20, 30, 60, etc... It's easy to set up a node, and cheap too... it's not out of the realm of possibility

    That being said... if they control only the enterance, and exit nodes, they can still make a good statistical case that the 2 are linked...

    and if you forget the end-to-end encryption, and say... log in to yahoo using their insecure form, and they have either the entrance, OR the exit node, presto... they know who you are

        I will agree that economics is one of the hardest things to "Get Right". "What is the grind worth?" is the biggest question of all of them, and along with that "How do we make it valuable enough for the advanced players, but still accessible enough for the new players" I like to think that we get it right, but we keep tweaking it.

    don't forget that you still need good end-to-end encryption... there are "evil" tor exit nodes out there that monitor for traffic, and what's to say that one of them isn't run by "Big Brother"?

    hell... If I were trying to spy on people, it's one of the first things I would do... set up a whole muck load of tor exit nodes... the people who are trying to hide might just have something worth hiding (Not saying all, but saying some)

    not so long ago.

    Symantec Corperate edition version 10.1 had a hole in it... that allowed a virus to spread, using SAV as it's vector

    Called symantec, the fix: Update to 10.1.5, and scan. We took the switches down while we fixed it
