I am not a core Gnome developer. I do contribute with suggestions, bug reports, etc..
The line between constructive and de-constructive comments is their goal. If people truely want to help they would help build and contribute to the final product, not just sit back and take cheap shots once it's done.
I do believe the reason most people prefer the cheap shots though is it easier. Doesn't take any knowledge or talent to do.
I always wonder about the theory of Future Shock when it comes to these things. I do believe that there is a point where things advance faster than your average human can keep up or WANTS to keep up. Which, in theory, would lead to a coming backlash of sorts.
That and I think that people don't EVER want to accept responsibility for there mistakes or shortcomings so they blame it on the other person or device.
One thing though I try and stress to those that just don't get tech is that they are "dumb". I've been doing the computer thing since I was 12 (before hard drives and GUI's) so it's second nature to me. But I can't waltz, play a musical instrument, etc.. Since I know computers though, that makes me a "genius" in people's minds. I know you all also get that but don't let it go to your head. It's all just skills...
Ok, granted this is odd, but one has to wonder what their goal will be. Microsoft is a LOT of things but one thing they do well is market. So they must have a goal in mind to risk walking into such a hostile environment.
Just BEING there lends credence to the expo in the minds of "Microsoft only" people. And MS certainly should know they aren't going to win any converts there. So what IS their goal?
Could they be there to announce (and promote) a possible MS Office for Linux? A MS distribution? What?
It sounds as if you've got a good handle on usability. I look forward to seeing YOUR contributions in Gnome 2.1.
Oh, you're not going to be contributing?
One note for all you self-appointed GUI experts out there, if you know so much, help out. If not, then shut up because your bitching is on the level of a person who didn't vote then complaining about the President.
More and more model airplane builders DO go out and buy ready-made kits that they could build themselves. They are called ARFs (Almost Ready to Fly) or RTF (Ready to Fly). Check out Tower Hobbies listing for them (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0097p.pgm ?CATEGORY=AC).
So you mean it's almost as good as a vinal record?
Seriously though. Has anyone else noticed the price vs. quality of music these days? It seems the more expensive the music, the less I give a crap about it.
BTW, as an alternative to all the RIAA customer harrassment, we could all just start listening to pre-1922 music (public domain).
I don't know of any "upgrades". The x-trace didn't both me as the Path will tell you it came for a RoadRunner subscriber.
I did notice that my post went to the Kansas City news server (twister.kc.rr.com). You might trying using it as I imagine anyone with an rr.com IP can use it.
Ok, I'm a RoadRunner customer. I read this and immediately went out to check my posts. Nope, didn't see the text added in any of them. Even posted a new post and still no text.
So, either it's not happening in all areas are this yet another bogus "It was posted on the web so it has to be true" story.
Everyone is going to have their own bias and take on this. Which is why I try and get the summary from Rotten Tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/StarWarsEpisodeII AttackoftheClones-1112314/).
They have it as a 58% right now which means basically that it sucks but a some will like it for whatever reason.
What's more is the 4 port Cable/DSL router I bought came with a Turbo Linux install CD. I mean, it's one thing to ship drivers but including a CD of Linux is top's in my book!

This is true. You have to assume that Microsoft and it's flock of lawyers have gone over and over GPL looking for a way to beat it. That's what I would do if I was an evil corporation with better lawyers than programmers. Why write good code if you can borrow it? If BSD had a different license Microsoft wouldn't have their current TCP stack among other pieces.
I expect though that someone will challenge it eventually. The GPL software is getting SO good that I can't believe people are not stealing it left and right. I would bet a large scale search would yield quite a few violations if it could be done.
I second this. Knowing the track record of Microcrap networking security, it would seem that making it even easier for data transfer will more than likely make it easier to hack.
Should have used a truely sucky name and called it "Sooner".. Of course that would probably be associated more with the release date with references made to "Later" as opposed to "Boomer" but..
I've installed and run Teamsite for awhile now. And I honestly have to say that it's the most overblown piece of junk I've ever seen. It tries to do a lot of things but does NOTHING well. Like the person said above, it's a b@tch to install and configure to even get it to a usable point.
When I was growing up, they where talking about the upcoming New Ice Age. There where scientists on TV telling about why this was coming and how bad it was going to be. Then, people started talking about global warming with the same dire predictions.
I have a hard time giving any credit to the "scientists" who reverse themselves every 30 or so years. The planet goes through cycles. Sure we need to stay as clean as possible and I'm all for protecting our home. But this Chicken Little routine is getting old.
Ok, I've been clicking through them and, so far, every pro-MS comment has been from an AOL user.

I am pleased with the DOJ ruling on Microsoft. I do not believe that it would be in the best interest of the American economy to break up Microsoft. If other states want to go ahead and and sue Microsoft, I wish them luck! They won't succeed. We need a company like Microsoft to keep the American economy strong and progressive.
There are idiots today who hate Microsoft and don't even know how to use a computer!
I wasn't making a judgement. I was asking if there was more to the find than what the article said. A request for further information...
A theory should be considered so until proven true. Everyone else here seems to WANT to believe that these people have made a major find (read: fact) without ANY actual evidence.
The hypocrytical thing is these same people bash Christians for their "unproven" faith.
So they say they've found it and everyone accepts it as fact now. But I didn't see any listed evidence and no experiments proving this happens. Therefore it can't be reproduced and proven.
Before you get too proud, why don't you try actually LEARNING about the Bible first. This book was written a long time ago so you can't just take what it says without knowing when or why it was said. It's called CONTEXT. Or are your READING COMPREHENSION and HISTORY skills as out of date as that King James version you're quoting from?
Or you could just continue to be smug in your ignorance. At least until the day of your death.
I have to agree to this. Many of you newbies probably don't remember Spamford and what a pain in the behind he was. It wasn't until Ageis's network was basically lopped off most of the internet did they stop taking his dirty money.
This isn't censorship. This provider isn't being blackholed for saying or doing something certain people may disagree with. They are involved in criminal activity. Spammers are criminals (theft of resources), those that harbor them are, by association, criminals. Saying otherwise equates spam with protected free speech which I don't think any of you are dumb enough to do.
It's funny that although Slashdot nerds have started to admit they don't know the law very well, the active denial of their ignorance of politics is alive and well.
Jon is the idiot. The two major party candidates are both educated and very intelligent. If Jon thinks he could do better I suggest someone follow him around for months, writing down everything he says, and trying to take it out of context. I bet Dan Quail would look better.
If us geeks truely want someone who supports the internet and "get's it", then Harry Brown is a shoe in. But I imagine most of us will continue defending our uninformed political choice we made in a popularity contest more controled by the nightly news than by the issues.

No, please re-read. I said vote. Basically a contribution is SOME way before the final product.
If you don't run, don't vote, don't lift a finger before the election and only complain like a troll afterwards, then no.

I'm afraid you're not going to find too many people in the know who don't believe strongly one way or another.
There was the article the other day about Mono that was pro-.NET. btw.

Was the article just too high level?
Is it just me or does the whole Gnome project seem to be loosing focus?
I have been a loyal Gnome user but KDE is leaving it in the dust as far as development goes right now. And NOW I know why...

Just goes to show you a bug CAN be a feature if marketed to the right people.
