Patents should be awarded for something unique and new, not something like the color or shape of an appliance, like a telephone. The appeals court has given Apple what it deserved, not what it got from the home-town boys who gave them what they wanted.
George Soros is a big investor in this company and has many liberal friends in our government. So, of course we're going to invest billions of dollars to make George even wealthier and provide the public with the illusion of security.
Jobs WAS a hypocrite. Once he stole an idea, he didn't want anybody else doing the same. Most of the innovation in cellphones comes from Qualcomm who developed the standards and allowed increases in bandwith and speed. Apple simply makes an appliance assembled from parts made by others which has an attractive design and is adored by yuppies for whom Steve Jobs is their idol. Jobs was a master marketer and its amazing how many people will pay more for something that is pretty similar to its competition because they thought Jobs was oh so cool.
Apple stole ideas from Xerox to develop its early computers; Microsoft managed to get them from Apple, which they have whined about for years. Now Apple thinks that if a product looks like anything they have, it's an infringement. Stealing ideas from your competitors is just business as usual. If an idea can be protected, you have the option of getting a patent on it, providing the patent office will grant one. Based on Apple's logic I guess Ford ought to sue every manufacturer that puts 4 wheels on their car and has seats and a steering wheel. Apple is just using its huge treasury to intimidate its competitors. I'm sure they are worried about what Mr. Market is saying about the smartphone business.
For some people, the illusion of security is just as good as being secure. Polls can be quite misleading, as you don't know how they selected the interviewees. I am not a road warrior, but do travel a fair amount. I see little benefit to TSA and I sense that the traveling public is getting more irritated with them as time goes by and they think up new ways to harass the public. TSA doesn't really seem intelligent enough to stop a terrorist even if he were wearing an "Al Quaeda forever...Down with the American Pigs" T-shirt.
Of course NASA is going to interpret any data it finds to promote the view that global warming is equal to impending doom for us all unless we change our ways and live like cave men. I doubt if they had any comment on the recent study that the general trend since Roman Times is for the earth to be cooling off. Of course, looking at anything beyond recent history might be too much for some so-called scientists to fathom.
Maybe all this caffeine in the water column will cause fish to be more alert and harder to catch. And if you do eat one, the caffeine jolt is already built in, making for an even healthier meal.
Maybe we should only teach political science and all successful graduates can learn to vote for whomever promises the most handouts, as they will likely be unqualified to do anything meaningful...except maybe to teach political science, which is not science at all.
I agree--this only encourages voter fraud. How many people on facebook are using made-up names? Pandering to people too lazy to go down to the polling place and cast their ballots only gets the wrong people elected. More voters is less important than informed voters, no matter what their choice.
So we want algae blooms all over our oceans? We have spent years installing wastewater treatment plants to take excess nutrients out of our waterways because they cause things like algae blooms which choke out higher life forms like fish. I don't think this idea represents a step forward for the environment.
Great response! And who made the mayor the official nanny of New York? Government should return to the role of providing services and stay out of people's private lives. "Question Authority" is my motto.
Amen! When will teachers start teaching again instead of using students to promote their personal political views? Schools aren't about the kids at all. They're about the teachers and administration coddling themselves at the taxpayer's expense.
James Hansen is just one of the reasons NASA is fast becoming irrelevant. There will be more funding cuts because the agency lost sight of its primary mission: to explore space and learn about the universe.
Your rudeness along with your name calling points to your lack of education and inability to argue your point. The global warming religion is full of people like yourself who pretend to know something about science.
Your global warming religion is based on the scientific misconception that temperature equals carbon dioxide. It does not. Believing that it does is like a religious belief. My suspicion is that you understand little about science, which is why you believe this particular misconception. In science, as in all other human endeavors, it is a good idea to follow the money. Huge amounts of have been spent on climate change research, even though most of the work is to construct models which cannot be verified.
Denialist, denier, heretic...these are terms used by religions to bring the unfaithful into line. The fact is that there is plenty of information to suggest that the climate has changed dramatically over the years without the influence of humans. Here's an article on the warming of Mars, which obviously is not caused by humans:
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070228-mars-warming.html
So, why can't the climate models be verified? Verification in any other discipline means inputting historical data and seeing if the model will correctly predict the outcome. With climate models, merely agreeing with one another is enough validation. Science is being politicized everywhere, which is why people are believing it less and less, much to the chagrin of the scientific community. These days the mantra is: we know what we believe is true, all we need are some facts to back it up. Science used to be more about questioning and disproving theories rather than calling those who don't agree with you names like denier or disbeliever. Historically, the climate has changed without any apparent intervention from humans. We've had little ice ages (weren't we supposed to be heading for another one in the 1970s?), and we have had warm periods when vineyards prospered in England and Greenland was so named because it could support a population of immigrants. Given the past ups and downs of our climate, it seems arrogant of mankind to decide that people are the problem and the solution.
It's also worth following the money. How much has been raised is support of climate change studies? The planet has warmed, as it has in the past. It has also cooled in the past and today's temperatures are probably much lower than when grapevines were grown in England and Greenland was green enough to support a population. The main culprit in warming and cooling is not terribly well understood, nor accurately modeled: Good old Mr. Sun.
George Bush, under whose administration the TSA was established once said that if we change our way of life because of the terrorists, they will have won. Well, TSA is a big change in our lifestyle. We are sacrificing freedom, not for security which would be a bad enough tradeoff, but for the illusion of security, as there is no proof the TSA has prevented any terrorists from coming to the US. We could get a lot of constructive advice from the Israelis who have been fighting terrorism for many more years than we have. Profiling is one thing they do, which is "politically incorrect" here. Let's turn airport screening back to the airports and have the FBI provide them with a database for checking passengers. Maybe we could have some professional security provided by the feds, but the mall cop guys who work for TSA don't make me feel the least bit safer or more secure. We could save billions of dollars every year by scrapping this agency which only provides the illusion of safety.
All this blathering about eastern US heat waves causing record high temperatures, but did anybody notice that on March 21-22, record snowfall occurred in Oregon? Seems only warm temperatures get any headlines in order to reinforce belief in the religion of global warming. Somebody will probably blame the Oregon snowstorm on global warming, too.

Apple has been one of the biggest pirates in Silicon Valley over the years. Steve Jobs was a first rate marketer, not a first rate inventor.
Once again, science fiction writers have stretched our imaginations and helped make the impossible likely.
George Soros is a big investor in this company and has many liberal friends in our government. So, of course we're going to invest billions of dollars to make George even wealthier and provide the public with the illusion of security.
TSA = Trolling State Airports?
More like Totally Stupid A***oles.

Totally Stupid Ass..... Lets abolish this outfit before all our civil liberties are flushed down the toilet.
