after a couple of pages of code you'd lose some context anyway. emacs seems to be pretty reliable on informing me which braces i'm matching.
not to say that i don't agree with the basic sentiment, but if your point is that languages should bridge the gap between human and computer towwards the human side why not use tools which can make the reading of the code easier for the human?
That's some pretty expensive crap Larry.

McVoy Strikes Back

· Score: 1
McVoy will stop the give-away, saying it has been costing him nearly $500,000 per year to support Torvalds and his programmers. ... "One problem with the services model is that it is based on the idea that you are giving customers crap--because if you give them software that works, what is the point of service?"
Maybe he ought to think again about the service model seeing as it could be bringing him in the amount of money he suggests. Or maybe BK is crap as it seems to need so much support?
Which is it Larry?
Yeah so once you've got the wire cutters, electrical tape and second audio jack from Radio Shack you could have just bought some fricking speakers and a microphone.
Unless wire cutters, electical tape and audio jacks grow on [whatever type of trees it is that grow wherever the hell this godforsaken place is].
I'd suppose that if basic speakers/microphones were unavailable then a soldering iron and the pick of audio interconnects at Radio Shack are probably out (unless he's McGuyver or something;)
And given that he's running a satellite phone I doubt that he's particularly bothered about saving a few bucks.Christ, the only people in the UK who are ever referred to as "adventurer"s are also referred to as "Sir".
I wouldn't mind to much, so long as you could opt out - just call up and say "I have half a clue what I'm doing" or "I'm not running a festering infected OS from Redmond".
I'm guessing most of the people who unwittingly harbour zombie machines wouldn't know wtf port 25 was anyway...
Maybe a couple of basic networking questions to weed out the chancers?
Yes. Though confusing is an understatement. Misleading is closer.
Good in a "cops don't turn up on your doorstep after WH Smiths sold you some blank CDs" kind of way. If you only ever download "shared" content and never buy any you are what warez dudes would call a leech. Using P2P services to bypass bland conventional radio/marketing or to sample content (which can be patchy and variable at best) is quite acceptable IMO.
"I asked for a car, I got a computer. How's that for being born under a bad sign?"
Heh, didn't President Clinton once talk of "welshing on a deal" when he should have have said "welching". That got a few backs up as I recall.
Mind you, what can you expect from Merkins?

I'm sure there will be many links to this by the time I click submit, but the BBC shows are quite interesing:

Sure you don't have to run a server.
;) call up you ISP and ask if they can free up the port so they can wreak havoc!
Joe Sixpack is told to use the ISP's SMTP server (the software they probably install would set it up for them anyway).
If you need to actually do you own mailing (and hence have enough clue to set up your own software) just call up and say why.
It seems a reasonable compromise - viruses can't (as far as I know

Key term: Discrimination.
I think discrimination based on the colour of your money is perfectly legal.
Now I'm wracked with uncertainty - dollars are all green aren't they?
The pun/joke/truth above probably doesn't work so well if all your bills look pretty much alike.
Well, the headline is almost certainly inflamatory - this is

Parent seems to be modded troll unfairly as the second paragraph gives the lie to the first?!
Frickin' stoopid patent though.
Ever look up at the sun?
Why, wha...MY EYES! Zee goggles zey do naathing!
Is that not "labret"?
Sorry it's not super-funny or anything, but I think it's the case. I hope so. I used to have three, so I'd hate to be disillusioned.
Which spong marked the parent as "Insightful"?
I've been having to do this for work and flac produces a file which can be decompressed to the _exact_ original file (MD5/SHA1 sums match).
If something better comes along, just reverse the flac and re-encode.
Just write yourself a wrapper which hashes the original, encodes, decodes, hases the decode and compares the hashes before deleting the original.
