Don't you think it's funny how we have never experienced an XBox crash while others, who don't like MS, have already seen an XBox crash without even owning a console.
When OS/2 WARP 4 first came out, I wanted to try it out. I checked plenty of computer stores but they didn't have it. Then one of my friend's father had won a copy of OS/2 WARP 4 in a tournament. Only problem is that my friend lived pretty far away and I didn't have a car. So I took a three hour bus/subway/bus/bus ride to get there.
Yes, I wasted a whole day just to get my hands on OS/2, an impressive OS especially at the time. Unfortunately, IBM killed OS/2. I vowed to never trust IBM. They don't give a damn about marketing. They don't take risks.
Works was a light version of Office that never got much success, even though it wasn't bloated and it usually came free with new PC's. Why you might ask? Because Office had more features, even though they were never gonna use those features, people always want more.
Take a look at Adobe Photoshop, it's bloated with features yet everyone use it for even the most simple graphic editing needs.
Apparently the CD will delete some Mac OS system files, that's what I heard from the news. They didn't say anything about Windows or Linux yet.

well her needs are probably more than extremely basic. I tried that experience with my cousin, a casual user who doesn't know much about computers, so I rebooted in Linux and told him to try it out. His first impression is that it was ugly. He used KWord and plenty of other apps and most of the time he was unable to understand what was going on because of the lack of messages. Why not put messages like "Please wait while loading", "Cannot open file", etc.? Some apps have it but many don't.
For some reason, he didn't like Mozilla. What bothered him is that he couldn't use the microphone to talk with his MSN Messenger Buddies, he could only type the messages. He didn't like the games much, im some games he had to use the mouse in other games he had to use the keyboard. What bothered him most in this is that he couldn't exit some games by clicking on the X, I told him that he had to press ESC.
In short, there's way too many usability problems. If KDE or GNOME had at least 1 usability expert helping them, they would get rid of most of those problems.
Sorry but Apple seems pretty hypocrite to me. Just as you say : "Capitalism is about making money. The GPL is about programming for fun and community innovation. They are logical opposites."
At least, MS is taking a stand, maybe the wrong one but hey they believe in something.
That's what happens when some crazy people like to blame others and sue the companies; so the companies have no choice but to protect themselves. Result? Good people pay the price and won't be able to get the information they need.
Anything can be dangerous if consumed extensively. Eating like 100 bananas, 100 hotdogs, 100 fishes in a day can be hazardeous to your health. I don't see such a warning on food, so why should a game put a warning?
I always thought that those ZDNet editors were pretty funny. The same guy who told us all to convert to MAC OS X last week will come back with a new article and tell us all how great Windows is then he comes back with another article and tell us how Solaris is amazing.
I don't know about you guys, but I don't want Slashdot to become that dumb. Unfortunately, everyone has a price, ironically we've even seen MS ads on Slashdot.
yes, but if you buy two or more games with your XBox, then they've made a profit.

Is this a joke? I'm pretty sure you haven't compared them. Everyone knows that the XBox have the best graphics, it's a no-brainer.
"Otherwise the RIAA would have to break in to the corporation to their private servers to even know that"
So what? As long as it's a big corporation or the government, they can do whatever it is they please, be it illegal or not.

yeah sure, where are the new versions that are coming out?
AOL-like demo disks? Never got any
Well it's practically the most secure OS out there. How many crackers do you think will try to crack OS/2 boxes? Not many.

People want the newest and most featurefull app they can get, that's why you see them using MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, etc.

You have a 21inch screen and you're gonna give it up for an iMac with a 15" screen?
Get yourself a G4 without a monitor. Your monitor is good enough.
I mean ain't life already more than easy enough for us? What's next? A device that'll let you know when you need to get off?

I'm usually pro-Microsoft, but MS building the GAP.com site drove me nuts. Don't they know that GAP just like Nike uses slave labor?
there is a Windows version, Sash has been available for two years. Not many people use it.

maybe if you kill yourself, I can sue Slashdot on your behalf :)

They probably wanted to take advantage of .NET or something like that.

I have a hard time using shooter games on a console. It's so much harder to control. Nothing beats PC's for shooters.
Consoles however are great for racing, party and fighting games.
