As a Counter-Strike Refugee, i implore you to try another game, ANY other game.
It got so bad in my house that my wife started to recognize maps by name. She even recognized the remake of de_dust in Soldier of Fortune.
I used have dreams and all the words in these dreams were Counter-Strike Radio commands. "gogogo", "fire i the hole", "taking fire, need assistance" "negative" "roger that". It's amusing at first but a whole night of dreaming gets a little unnerving.
Addtionally I went through 3 mice, and 2 headsets on account of this game. I also damaged my desk.
I have found that since I quit playing CS I don't get mad while playig games anymore.
I still can't wait for HL2 though.
I was really inot SOF2, and I want Deathball (UT2K3 mod) to catch on big over here. Also "Call of Duty" has pretty nice multiplayer. Just pick somehting else and try it.
Counter-Strike is like a zone of compfort that a lot of people fall into. You are used to the maps, you are used to everything, it's like being married for 24 years except there is no sex involved. It is not still fun. It is just what you do.
Step away, friend. Step Away.

Hey, it worked for Valve, it can work for us.
I know Half-Life was the only game I ever bought more than once, as sick an fanboyish as that sounds to me now.
That why I go to the Liquor store. It's only 6 blocks away, it's cheaper than going to a bar, and if my wife throws me out of the place, I can go sleep at the neighboors.
Also I don't feed the beast. My city had the Forethought to wire itself to the gills in the mid-late 90s and the provide internet through 3 local ISPs.
The speed is good. I don't usually have much of a problem. In fact, if I was my neighbor I would cut my cables.:-)
Someone has to be a grub fanboy, so I suppose it will be me.
He is right. Tinfoil hat and all. The problem is really noticable on residential Cable networks.
When I am actually reading text in a browser noting upsets me more than having to wait for the next page, where on the otherhand if I am downloading something that takes an hour, an additional 15 mintues would not even be noticable (as I usually get up and go something else while doing that anyway)
Also I think there are a lot of people on file sharing networks that are pack rats, they download everything they think might even be vaguly interesting even though a lot of it they will never use it.
This f's my ping and I hate that too.:-)

It is rumored (one doesn't believe everything one reads on the internet) that you come from a scientoligist (I can type that without gettin sued, right?) background, but you are no longer with the church. What are you feelings on Scientology now?

I believe you even stumped the internet on that one.
You are correct, the truth is the silent majority here probably uses microsoft products to some extent. This does not make Microsoft us fanboys, just people who utilize technology. Zealotry is for religion.
The point is, if there is a new gadget or a new way of doing things, I am going to be interested, it doesn't matter who makes it.
"And games aren't ported to it because there's no money in doing so."
That is true, on top of the fact that it is a tremendous support nightmare. There about a hundred other things that can go wrong trying to get a game to work under linux than can go wrong under windows. Of all the things I have installed on either I would say the average success rate of putting a cd into my machine and installing something on Winodws is much higher than it is with Linux. With windows you don't need to worry about dependencies (except for maybe direct x which the game will install itself.
There is something inherently wrong with having to work hard to play a game. I have no problem doing it to set up a server or write a script, but when it comes to games I just want to plug and play.
It is not a bad thing, it makes Linux a more productive OS for me to operate under.
They are like shoes you see. Some are appropriate to stomp around in the dirt with. Some are better for formal situations, and some are jsut plain compfortable.
Draw the analogy anyway you like, I own Quake 3 for Linux and I never ever did get it running to my satisfaction. The support for Linux Gaming just isn't there. Is that such a bad thing. Does Linux have to be all things to all people? It is wonderful and beautiful in it's niche but without a lot of work it is hopelessly outclassed in the gaming department.
You can be insightful without being insensative, I am not riding some kind of a hardcore PC trip here, if he is gay and black it's still not a particullarly appropriate name.
Some people just enjoy the attention they get from shock value, be it positve or negative. I might have a fair amount of respect for him/her if s/he legally changed his name to that just to illistrate the idea that words aren't dangerous, it is the ideas behind them, however in a printed or electronic medium, people are defining themselfs with words, and in this context they really do mean something to the person who reads them, although when text is read it isn't read with the mind of the writer, but instead with the reader and interpretations made by them based on past experiences...
The fact of the matter is that those two words have a whole assload of negative feelings chaged into them. Homosexuals being burned in Germany, 100's years of slavery, an addtional 75-85 years of segragation, Matthew Shepard and the huge hangover that has come with each of these things will require time to heal. These words are still oppressive. I am not saying that people shouldn't use them, I am just saying that people should think before they open their mouths.
Your statement struck me kind of weird until I looked up at your name and realized that anyone who thinks it's cool and/or funny to use a name such as that probably has a very skewed sense of humor.
Take that for what it's worth, I will probably see you on a Counter-Strike server sometime in the near future shooting your teamates down to 15% life and then slurring.
Though I do think UF has kind of dropped off, it is still classic.
It's a social thing, It makes you get better when you have to wait till the roundis over to respawn. Besides, how would any smack ever get talked if it weren't for that waiting period?

I kicked around with Soldier of Fortune 2 for awhile but it wasn't the same. Now I don't game nearly as much and it's amazing what I get done.
