    Really, what is the current ability of the US to launch people into space? Oh right, paying for access on other countries rockets. While NASA may currently have the ability to launch and support robotic missions their ability to support human missions falls short of China's capabilities.

    Yes but it is quite plausible to have a hidden compartment in your car for a perfectly legal reason such as hiding valuables. The problem with this law, at least how we have been presented with the facts in this case is that you need to go to court in order to clear your name. Imagine if you had to go to court to clear your name for owning a DVR just because it could be used for copyright infringement.

    Can't remember the last time I swiped a credit card. It's been the chip and pin system for years or the RFID system where you just tap your card against the reader. Next thing you'll tell me that you have to sign your credit card transactions too!

    I thought the whole idea of spending over $50B on a bunch of sports is kind of silly in the first place. Imagine the good that money could have done helping people instead. Yes some people got jobs building the facilities but most of the money was lost due to corruption. All over to see who can skate/ski/etc the best.

    Which Sunday night would that be? Sunday night with respect to the ESA, Sunday night in Canada since it was a CBC article, or Sunday night where ever the satellite falls? Because Sunday night in Sydney, Australia is different than Sunday night in Seattle, Washington.

    It will all come down to whose version of national interest that would be implemented if the bill becomes law. Many of the people on here believe that basic scientific research is in the nation's interest so it wouldn't be a problem. But, if the assumptions that people are making about the bill then the politicians pushing for this change have a drastically different point of view what national interest means. Unfortunately there isn't a concrete answer that we can point to and definitely say that something is definitely or is not in a nation's interest.

    I could see New Zealand letting these revelations be published. I keep tabs on one of the papers from there and it has always provided a good balance to the coverage in the Middle East, especially Iraq. Plus NZ isn't afraid to tell the US to get stuffed.

    I can't see Canada being too co-operative in publishing these leaks as long as Harper remains in power. Even after because our economy is so dependant on the American one.

    It's not just the emissions from the plant that you need to take into consideration. Mining for coal can be a very destructive and dangerous process.

    Because the death penalty is really about retaliation and revenge. Such a peaceful death is too good for the people that are executed. I watched a show by Louis Theroux about the death penalty and it was scary how some people wanted the prisoners to suffer.

    It's also independent on the source of energy for the vehicle. So it doesn't matter if you have a gasoline engine, diesel, or an EV.

    How about taxing the tires instead? You can determine the vehicle type from the tire and set the tax rate based on how much wear and tear it will impose on the infrastructure over the lifetime of the tires. If the person drives a lot then they will go through the tires quicker, have to replace them more often, and pay more tax. A person that doesn't drive very much won't replace the tires very often and pay less tax.

    It doesn't take care of the case of travelling in other states but at least you don't have to worry about your privacy or what the source of energy your vehicle uses.

    Some people call taxes going around to poor people's houses and stealing money. The rich can afford to use loopholes and escape paying taxes.
