  1. Re:Keyboard placement on Thirty Years of Clamshell Computing · · Score: 3, Interesting

no I have a dec laptop with a trackball in the now normal position, Its date of manufacture is 1990 which is the same year as the original Macintosh portable started coming with a backlight, and a year before the first powerbook. The original portable in 89-90 gave you a reflective screen (think gameboy) a full sized keyboard, a full sized trackball on the right of the keyboard, and ran off of lead acid batteries. It was a old clunky luggable about 6 years too late.

The first powerbook came out in 91 and it came with the trackball built in, which makes since as you HAVE to have a mouse with a mac. My DEC clips onto the front with pogo pins that make the contact as an option. So while the powerbook was the first one with a built in pointing device, PC makers have been putting the trackball under the keyboard for years as an option

yea OMFG wait, by Christmas it will be in the sub 30$ bin at walmart and still have thousands of players.

of all the things people can bitch and whine about new games, cost is not really one of them

a 2600 game would cost you 77 bucks today
a SNES game would cost you 79 bucks today
Metal Gear solid would cost you 84 bucks today

(and we haven't even left the 90's yet)
so please STFU that game prices have not inflated equally with everything else, they have actually gotten cheaper!

I was in walmart earlier, walked past their top of the line tv's including plasma, what did I see ... something that looked like video CD on my pentium. that's the point, the content is just not there, even HD services are at best 720 stretched, more often its 480.

It just looks like garbage to me, and having a billion pixels running at 600Hz does me no good when I cant read the phone number on a commercial ... something my 27 inch 10 year old, will go another 20 years Trinatron does in perfect razor sharp clarity, all because chi-co industries shoved some half assed video processor onto a decent screen, and the providers are trying to skimp on video bandwidth so they can give me swamp people on 9 channels in 6 languages.

My stupid CRT looks much better for non HD content, and if you want HD content it cost out the ass, fuck it, its a gimick for dumb consumers, and a slight advantage to the unwashed masses playing console games.
