This site has some stuff on using barcode scanners (including the ever-popular cuecat) to catalog books...
I personally would like to catalog my collection with a relatively decent amount of information, but who wants to sit there and type all that stuff in?
I agree that the trick would to keep a database from going to the Dark Side like CDDB did...

I've been using KMeleon for a while, and become a fan... It pretty quick (not THE fastest) and the footprint is small. It's worth checking out.
There are a few quirks, sure, but for the most part It's replaced IE as my primary browser. I still have to use IE for the occasional page, but we'll see what 0.6 fixes...
I haven't actually seen the last ep of TLG (was the season/series finale already aired? I hate the Friday Timeslot), but I imagine they could find some way of tying up any loose ends in the X-Files somehow...
TLG seemed to work better in the context of the 'Files, anyway.
