  1. HFS+ as the default operating system for Mac OS X on ZFS Set To Eventually Play Larger Role in OSX · · Score: 0, Redundant

Uh folks, I hate to break it to you but ZFS is a FILE SYSTEM not an OPERATING SYSTEM....

I am sure Apple isn't going to replace the core of their OS with Solaris. ZFS may be a better choice the HFS+ I don't know a lot about ZFS, but if it is better I will have no problem migrating my stuff over to it.

  2. Re:BFD on Bungie Explains Halo 3's Resolution · · Score: 1

There wasn't all that much that in my eyes was new. You had 2 new vehicles and the weapons were modified a little. Halo 3 you could drive by 90% of the fights. At least in Halo you were forced to do a lot of walking, and that in turned forced you to do a lot of fighting. Halo 2 forced you to do fighting which is what the game is about. Not driving past everything. I also enjoy the find my way through mazes better than being directed by the little white pin point telling me where I need to go. There was no challenge in this game. Halo 2 took me 3 nights to finish about 15-18hrs, Halo was about 3-4 nights. Halo 3 is obviously too short for the $50 spent. I've put in more hours playing "Settlers of Catan" in the Xbox live arcade for $12.50.

  3. Re:BFD (i have spoilers here...) on Bungie Explains Halo 3's Resolution · · Score: 1

I totally disagree. I really thought the story was under developed. The Flood converted Covenant ship was really the only major addition to the Halo story line in Halo 3 and I felt the introduction was weak at best. As for game play. It wasn't balanced at all. I flew through each mission, when it came to getting inside the Ark, I was able to just drive by 90% of the obstacles in front of me, there was nothing really stopping me. The hardest part of the game was the Scarabs and once you had the tanks taking out their generators was relatively easily done from a distance. The game does not live up to the hype. Sure it's pretty, but you know what, it really wasn't all that FUN.

Well it took me 7hrs to complete. It should have lasted at least 14, not as fun as I would expect it to be. The network play ok, but I don't care for the maps. I really liked the maps on Halo 2 better.

This was brought on because Creative Labs president wanted to turn all the CSW stores into "Creative Labs" stores, kind of like Apple has it's store. The problem was the only thing he had to stock the shelves with were crappy second rate MP3 players. He thought that the american people would line up in long lines to have a huge selection MP3 players that were cheap. So he took 60% of the CSW products and supporting products out of inventory in the stores and threw in a bunch of crappy MP3 players.

Needless to say he was wrong.

Not too mention that the president is so Anti macintosh that you'll never see drivers for OS X by Creative, and they will never create a way to talk to their MP3 players for OS X. I know, I talked to the president of Creative when he came to the US. I had a Nomad Zen, but use a Mac, and he basically bad mouthed Apple during the entire discussion. I am pretty disgusted with them as a company and their policies.

He had this bright idea to turn Cambridge SoundWorks stores into "Creative" stores kind of like "Sony" has their stores. That failed miserabley. All but 2 of th 20 something CSW stores are now closed because of his poor judgement.

I do travel with my laptop but I also don't go anywhere that I am worried about getting it stolen. I go to Japan, and the youth hostels there either give you a private room, or if in a dorm they give you a coin locker that is visible at the front desk, so the chances of someone breaking into them are slim.

I would recommend instead of bringing a laptop for offloading pictures, get a portable media reader with hardrive. That way, when your card fills up, you turn on reader, plug in the memory card and hit copy, 3 minutes later the memory card is all copied to the hard drive. When you want to offload it go to an internet cafe, grab a blank CD/DVD and burn the images to another media type for backup. I have a 40GB drive that I do this with, and I love it.

The reason why I have not gone there yet is simple. There's this thing called a work visa, and I don't meet the requirements for it. It requires a 4 year degree or 10 years of work experience in the field that you are going to work in, in Japan. I have 1 year to go before I hit 10 years. I've been working on collecting documentation for that.
