Managing that battery inventory is going to be a huge problem. How are you going to make sure each 'gas station' has enough batteries on hand.

Maybe I'm just paranoid coming from Africa where people will steal anything making infrastructure hard to build out... but you're talking about an expensive batter than can be 'easily swapped out'. Something tells me that makes it 'easy to steal'.

It makes perfect sense, think like a politician. The only problem with those pesky poor people is that they can vote! I know! We'll just make a law that will make all of them criminals (rich people like us will have enough money for a lawyer to get us out of a conviction). After a while, only rich people will be able to vote!
You do realize HTML5 is far far more than just a video player right? Even so "HTML5 Video" doesn't inherently mean WebM nor H.264 as the format isn't part of the standard.
When I said established I meant you can find A LOT of devices (not just desktops/phones which include my Google Android phone) that read/write mp4, not so much OGG/WebM.
"They are following their own agenda," of having to pay money to an entirely different company? How is that helpful to them?
I do agree that it's frustrating that Microsoft and Apple don't at least support WebM in addition to h.264, I don't feel it's some sort of self serving agenda though. The only way it would be that I can think of is if they both felt WebM infringed on patents so they'll just use h.264 which they have the license for.
This is one of the problems with "open" formats; nobody agrees, everyone squabbles around and tries to push their own agenda. Sometimes it's better to have a dictator than a democracy (I'm sure I'll get modded down just for saying that..).
I don't think it's really a problem with an "open" format per se if you're referring to WebM.
Google, Mozilla, and Opera support a standard that is free of licensing Microsoft and Apple support a standard that is well established
I agree. This article is complete non-sense. How many devices does Apple iOS support? 1 the iPhone by... Apple!
iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, and iPhone 3GS actually. That's three phones, compared to the two Nexus phones Google supports,
Google has no control on how phone makers support/update their versions of Android. It's like blaming Microsoft because a software vendor does not support the latest Windows version.
No, it would be like blaming Microsoft that I couldn't put Windows 7 on my 18month old computer that came with Vista (hint: this scenario never happens)
No, like the 3GS which still got iOS5 even though it came out over two years ago (27months). As opposed to the mentioned Nexus One which only came out 21 months ago. So even though the 3GS came out 6 months BEFORE the Nexus One, it still gets the latest update of iOS5 as opposed to the Nexus One NOT getting ICS
Apple supports $currentPhone $currentPhone-1 and $currentPhone-2 with updates. We can see that is NOT the case with the Nexus Phones from Google.
I know you're trying to be smart, mentioning the iPhone 3G since that didn't get iOS 5, but that also was released before even the first Android phone, so it's not a fair comparison.
Yes it is a GOOD thing, if I want to organize an event (which I can't do in Google+ now either) or have a group of coworkers that all want to communicate on projects.
The minor problem with sharing the circle is that if someone later joins you have to resend out the entire circle all over again.
Facebook groups and Google+ circles are both GOOD things, they each have different use cases.
If I make a Facebook group of "Slashdot posters" then everyone sees who is in that group and one member can message all the other members.
If I make a Google+ circle of "Slashdot posters" there isn't any inter communication between the people I put in there unless they make the connections themselves.
Advertising as a whole is different than targeted advertising, which is what this Do Not Track stuff refers to. Take away advertising as a whole and prepare for a lot more websites to be behind a paywall.
ATT isn't buying T-Mobile in order to get a corner on the market. They are buying them to expand their network so they can have a hope of competing with Verizon.
Yes any time a competitor to Microsoft fails, it MUST be because they were bribed, not because of poor sales and/or business decisions. I guess when Microsoft Kin failed it must have been because they bribed themselves.
Also, HP isn't just getting out of WebOS, it's getting out of selling PCs. It is the #1 seller of Windows based PCs. So why the hell would Microsoft bribe them to stop doing that?
For the tens of thousands of visitor to the webpages I work on, Firefox 6 usage has already surpassed Firefox 5 usage. I'm sure by the end of the weekend FF4 and FF5 will be a drop in the bucket.

Probably similar to the ones that Linux infringes on Windows. (Read: we'll never know, probably just FUD).
My point was that was the only situation I could think of that would make Apple/Microsoft support h.264 yet not WebM.
When I said established I meant you can find A LOT of devices (not just desktops/phones which include my Google Android phone) that read/write mp4, not so much OGG/WebM.

Same for HTML5, people think it's "A web video player".
HTML5 and Flash each have their own feature sets. In some areas they overlap, in others they don't
For non-geeks there's Unity. That's who it's catered to.
You do know that GNOME 2 was discontinued, right? That it was discontinued by its creators, GNOME, not Canonical?
There's also the fact that the next version of Mint won't use GNOME2 either.

Well the "They" in that case in GNOME, not Canonical

If Apple made TV:
There would only be one channel, because, "why would you want to change it"?
If Linux made TV:
Everything would look like low budget cable access shows.
I mean how the fuck do you open source a steak and eggs breakfast anyways?!
Give the recipe with the meal
It seems nowadays nothing gets done because one side is arguing against the other sides proposal simply because the other side created it.
Yes porn is the ONLY type of site that uses Flash. Not websites with videos that aren't on YouTube or games on Facebook. Nope, Flash = porn
Install a fancy new browser called IE9 or Safari and the (H.264) video works fine on that 10 year old operating system.
Yeah man, that OS that isn't due out for 4 years and isn't even pre-alpha? Totally terrible.
I'd like to see advertisements go away.
Advertising as a whole is different than targeted advertising, which is what this Do Not Track stuff refers to. Take away advertising as a whole and prepare for a lot more websites to be behind a paywall.

You believed that line too? Too bad it's not true
