    The choice doesn't have to be between free/open-source and pay. The choice can be between subscription(as MS is currently ramming down users' throats) and pay-once, keep the same feature-set, maybe pay for security updates. Like all Windows up to and including Windows 7. Why should everyone be nickel-and-dimed to death while not even maintaining a consistent UX?

  11. Games are an example of software that doesn't usually get updated, but you still want them to keep working. Frankly I wish programmers like you (who don't have respect for backwards compatibility) would crawl into a ditch and die, but I don't get everything I want in this world.

    Thank you and they do seem like edge cases, by that I don't mean they are pointless, but that they account for the minority of Mac users.

    Some of those, one could even do with a VM that would work on a different architecture. There might be a performance hit, but for something built for "Windows 3.11 or Windows 95", I doubt it'd make a difference.

    I know what VMware fusion and Bootcamp do, but I'm asking for the specific use case of why the person would need to "host an other OS". I'm guessing the possibly loss of sales from being unable to do so might not outweigh the savings in paying Intel for chips.

  15. What we do have that nobody on either side wants to discuss or even acknowledge is a public mental health crisis.

    Nobody on either side wants to discuss guns either, because they are convinced the 'other side' feels the exact opposite of them (e.g. All guns everywhere / No guns anywhere).
    While mental health is definitely an issue, any discussion would unfortunately fall into the same black and white us vs them screaming arguments.
