Does anyone else think that Apple is going to shit a brick over this? I'm sure they don't mind Linux users being able to view Sorenson encoded files because they arn't really loosing anything, Linux users just otherwise wouldn't view these files. But now people have an option to make quicktime moves without paying for Apple software. (I'm saying this assuming that Apple dosen't make any free Sorenson encoding programs)

No dude, you don't understand. These are time reversal antennas. They only exist in the past.
But look what your about to start. Now people are going to complain about all the dupe posts to dupe stories then people are going to complain about dupes to those complaints. If this continues we are all going to be sucked into a black hole.
Nope, I can't. But the important parts of this argument were the orgional message and my reply. Which are rated 4 and 3 right now:) But that dosent really matter. The point I was trying to make is that the moderation system on slashdot produces acceptiable(sp?) results. Some good comments dont get moded up, and some bad ones do. Like I said its not perfect, but is is good enough.
Ah yes, but see how that fixed itself? Your comment did make a good point but some ass-hole modded your post down. Since most of the moderators are not ass-holes, they recognized this and modded you back up and now you are above my threashold. Thats how I saw your post to reply to it.
The funny thing about your post is that it proved to me the exact oppisite of what it said. As I scroll down the page here i see no "First Post", penis bird, goatse.cx, Beowulf clusters of grits, and NPN&P. Thats because I have my threashold set high enough to filter all of those out. No, Its not perfect but Its not bad either. I think thats what they're trying to do here. Allow anyone to publish, but have a distributed moderation system.
Do you agree with every issue that every candidate you have voted for supports? Probably not. The problem is that in order to have a sane voting system the number of candiates has to be limited or else we would be overwhelmed in deciding who to vote for. I vote for candidates that agree with me on issues that I deem the most important. And unfortunatly I am going to disagree with them on some other issues. Fact is that most people don't care about the DMCA. This does not make them morons. There are tons of other issues that the feel are more important. Though I do agree with you on the intelegence of non-voters.
I would imagine that most game companies re-use alot of their code. And they probably have a good ammount of their own intelectiual property tied up in there. Also many of them probably licence code from 3rd parties that they can't re-licence themselves.
your comment makes even more sense if you take it to its logical extreme. you could implement a virtual machine as a single thread on a real machine. this virtual machine can have multi-threading that can experience deadlock, even though it is a single process on the real machine.
RealOne is only available for Windows and (in beta) MacOS X. While they've had a *NIX client in the past, I'm guessing that this source release is how they expect to address those platforms in the future.
There already is a RealOne port to several Unix platforms, download here
I bet this cooling case puts out quite a bit of heat too. Remember, a refriderator produces more heat that it does cold. Thermodynamics and all that nonsense.
I see alot of questions here that refrence things from the open source movement. I would use more ambiguous words in their place because as soon as the folks from MS realize that your into open souce they're going to give you the run-around. IE, don't say open source projects, say personal software projects. in place of Ogg Vorbis, say alternitive audio codecs. There was a MS representative at the career fair here at UVA and as soon as I mentioned the word linux, the conversation pretty much ended.

Porn wants to be free. Get a girlfriend.

You've never had a girlfriend have you?

Just out of curiosity, what is the app?
You want everyone to have a gun? Perhaps I should introduce you to some of my friends from West Virginia.

Am I the only one who read the parent's title and figured it was some guy who got some poon at comdex one time?
Oh wait, this is slashdot...

the Windows version is hurting
That's strange because I've found that Mozilla is more stable and faster in Windows vs. its Linux couterpart.
i've found that about half of the music on giFT is ogg.
It's still cvs only, but its getting better every day.
sorry, i must have messed up the link. but there is in fact a realone for linux. i've been running it for a while.
which is probably why we havent seen a linux version (thank goodness)
There is a linux version, download it here

Isn't this exactly what MP3.com is doing?
I just want to snag one of those lcd's, it not like anybody ever uses them :)
Have you ever noticed that there's never anybody in there?
Yeah, I've always had problems trying to get non-existant software to compile. Even when I do it never seems to run.
you should probably upgrade to gcc3.2

Therefore, this infringes upon my right to the "pursuit of happiness", as ordained by the constitution.
I'm not sure if you were joking or not, but that phrase is from the declaration of independence, not the constitution
