I wish I could by the 9505 voice-encryption module for the back of the phone, but then I'm not a spook;)
But do you value privacy? Do you send all your mail in post cards, so everyone can read and make sure you're not a terrorist? Why not, do you have something to hide?
Exercise your (assumed) right to privacy, or someone will be sure to take it away. Use it or lose it.
They need to be used properly. And I don't mean administered or installed properly. If a student does not want to learn, you have bigger problems than simply increasing productivity. You need to actually get involved and motivate the people (AKA students, yes, they're people too). Of course, this leads to a lot more things that people don't want to hear about, like making schools useful for more than extended advertising campaigns, and paying teachers competetive salaries (and most likely STILL not compensating them properly for what they do).
These types of issues should be the a priority. Not that we shouldn't be working on making computers useful as learning tools, we (should) have enough resources that we can dedicate something to that too. But our priority should be the foundation.
I've been watching Aerie for months. They've been saying they're going to buy Ricochet for months. I'm waiting on ACTION. I was a serious ricochet user before they died, and soon as they light it back up, I'll be cruising.
I've heard that they assumed that several Bible storries must have been written long after the fact because they mentioned a civilization that was not known to exist (the Chaldeans, perhapse?). Then they found some cuneaform tablets from teh same time period also mentioning the supposedly ficticious civilization. (Anybody know if they thought the Chaldeans were a myth arround the turn of the century?)
I believe the civilization was the "Hittites." A really cute girl in high school gave her year report on the issue. IIRC, until about the turn of the century, critics claimed that the entire bible is a bunch of hogwash because they couldn't find any record of the hittites outside of the bible. Then they did. I believe her point was that in science, a more moderate view is often the most useful, don't let your personal biases get in the way of your work. Don't assume the bible is entirely correct on a few small details, but don't assume it's all wrong for the same reason.
Hey, I'm trying to find documentation on this for an unbeliever. Got a link to the bullet-photography experiment where they proved that rifling doesn't make the ball spin?
The most embarassing part is that IE seems to have the best implementation of modern (in internet-time) standards out. Of course they have proprietary tags supported, but for the most part IE will render an HTML4.0 Strict page properly. Last I checked, NS barfed on CSS. I used to say "best viewed in IE5", but that's kinda ghey. Now I just say "best viewed in an HTML4-compliant browser". Doesn't sound anywhere near as elitist. And then when people email me about it not working in netscape, I tell them to get a browser that supports modern standards.
It seems like a really nice feature for an email client would be something like the ICQ feature that auto-ignores people that aren't on your list. Your email client could auto delete email from people that aren't in your address book.
I know I'm going to get modded down for this, but you can do that with a single rule in outlook. I doubt it would be hard for any decent mail reader to do.
More accurately, it's because the north won. If the south had won, only the Union deaths would have been counted as "american." (well, only one side would, at least at a time - Americans and Rebs, or Yanks and Americans)
Sustainable agriculture research? If that's one of your goals, and you need money, you can start by removing government subsidies for disuse of crop land. America alone could easily meet the world's food demands, if there weren't economical and political incentive not to.
Okay, so they made a smart move. Well, I would do it too if I'm an ISP. I'll give you access to port 25 outside my core if you want, but you put down a deposit and promise not to spam.
Now what does this have to do with blocking non-MS POP3? I thought we just solved the spam problem.
already slashdotted? Well how can they tell

Any way, how can the tell what POP3 you're using? And why would POP3 stop spam? Wouldn't SMTP be where the action is? (I'm assuming that's what they mean). Are they looking at headers (easily emulated by spamware, ineffective) or some other signature? And I don't see how this will stop spam, anything like that is easily emulated. More and more stupidity.
The 3870 has integrated bluetooth. If I didn't have such dismal expectations of it, I would say you could use that. There's also an IR port, if you have one on your synch station, and it can take an 802.11b card and synch over the network. If you just want to charge it, you can either use one of the PC Card sleeves with the DC in port, or use a small DC-in converter. The last two solutions are mentioned in the article.

Actually I'm in favor of that too.

If everything else is wireless, why not move to the toilet?
How do you think I'm posting this?

Even more impressive that the Pharoe and his army drowned in a sea of reeds.

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of magentic tapes.

You talk about DSPs then booting off floppies? Why not just program a boot rom or have a solid state IDE device?
naw, it's already a goner. (0810 CDT) Try the Google cache at http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:Ictup6D77nQ:w ww.carrionsound.com/menu.htm+carrionsound&hl=en
That's why you set your security preferences to not automatically run ActiveX controls without asking you.
Well, I suppose I should qualify that - best qualified in terms of knowledge?
The person best qualified to fight against their view is the one who knows their view best.

Hey, this is slashdot, you're not allowed to make sense!
Code to standard, not to browser. If it doesn't display, it's the browser's fault.

Well, it loaded now, but it's slow.
