    Another interesting news experiement is memigo.com. It's a meta-news site, like Google News, except it uses an Amazon.com-like algorithm to predict the news stories that you will want to read.

    It's a clever idea, but the stories get a bit repetitive after it learns your preferred news topics. I think the algorithm should include a few more random and underrated links.

    Wherehouse Music did exactly this in the early 1990s. They had a "mix tape" kiosk. The song selection was pretty limited, but I thought the idea was cool. Only problem was it produced cassettes and it cost at least a $1 per song. :(

    If you shop in a store that uses biometric check-out equipment, refuse to use it and SAY SO. Tell the checker. They probably don't care, but if they hear it often enough, the meme will spread. Tell the person in line behind you. If you are not too lazy, tell the store manager that you refuse to use the equipment and that you will either stop shopping at this store or, at least, prefer to shop at stores that don't use this equipment.

    Now is the time to speak up against Big Brother. It's easier to prevent this technology NOW than after it has become an entrenched standard.

    You could even automate it further. The web form is probably just an HTTP GET, so you could write a Perl script to just generate HTTP GET URLs with bogus names/etc.

    This could increase the scaricity of a High school diploma.

    Thus increasing the value of a high school diploma for students who don't drop out. Suddenly, "high school diploma required" actually means something.

    School teachers should spend their time teaching, not babysitting. I think that mandatory school attendance is stupid. If kids don't want to show up at school, then that is their parents fault. Rowdy, misbehaving kids are ruining the education of the kids who WANT to learn. Let the bullies and truants skip school, commit petty crimes, grow up without a high school education, and end up in jail.

    With 1980s retro in full swing, I'm waiting for the re-release of a redesigned Delorian, like the New Bug and the Mini-Cooper. With those magical doors and a more modern design, I think it would be pretty schweet.. :-)

    They should sell their data to DoubleClick. They could serve geography-sensitive banner ads! If they know you live in San Francisco and you are visiting a food web site, they could serve up banner ads for local San Franciso restaurants.

    I think there's a company called MaxMind GeoIP that already does this.

    just because he can rap doesn't mean he knows everything about biology or computers.

    Anyways, I think the destructive nature of computer virsues is vastly overhyped. What percentage of computer viruses and worms actually format your hard disk? Very few, I think. Most just propogate themselves and annoy. If virus writers were truly malicious, they could easily add a "format c:" feature to their viruses. But they don't. Why not? This is what makes me think that many viruses are actually written by the virus scanner companies. Job security, you know. :-)

    XP Home adds new users to the Administrator group (for app compatibility). XP Pro does not because (supposed) Windows corporate desktops can be locked down.

    why not combine the two ideas: nuclear reactors on the moon! We don't have to store or transport the nuclear waste on Earth. No peace niks could complain that the nuclear reactor or its waste is in their backyard.

    I'm not sure how the energy would be transported back to Earth. Maybe microwaving beaming like these proposed lunar solar panels?

    People in the UK seem to like Bluetooth for "bluejacking":

    bluejacking is the art of anonymously sending messages to users of other Bluetooth devices who have switched on the technology and made their handset "visible" to potential bluejackers. Since Bluetooth-enabled phones, PDAs and laptops can search for other devices within their short range, bluejackers in crowded transport hubs, pubs or any other public place can easily send messages without being detected.

    Macromedia does not use overseas developers to create their Mac ports. The Mac ports are all done in-house. How else could Macromedia release Mac and Windows products simultaneously?
