  1. I've got one on Strategic Commander Controller For RTS · · Score: 1

    To set some questions straight....

#1: yes the box says its just for strategy games... but hey, why stop there? I use it in regular everyday windows work. Setup a key on it to bring up my next icq message, setup browser functions so that a press of a button makes the browser go back, forward, stop, reload, etc... the possibilities are limitless.

#2: Yes, you can program a whole sequence of keys into it. It will type a whole essay for you if you so choose it to. And on top of keyboard keys, it will also add mouse clicks for you too. And with enough programming... it might even do your homework for you. :)

#3: With its ability to change programming on the fly, and to change profiles on the fly, it is SOOOOO much more usefull.

I gave up my old wingman extreme digital for this new controller... its that good. :) I personally give it a 10. Microsoft did a good job on this one.

  3. Biological Harmonic Expression on Enter The 'Stupid Patent Tricks' Contest · · Score: 1

This is a process in which air is passed through a series of biological "Chords" or "Strings" to produce distinct audible vibrations or "Harmonics". This patent will also cover the reception of these harmonics using Bilogical or Technological Harmonic Recievers, and the process of recording these harmonics.

Production, Reception, Reproduction, and Distribution of these harmonics will be subject to royalties, payable to my company.

  4. Re:A bit biased on Microsoft's New Spamming Technique · · Score: 1

the product specifically asks if you want to email ALL of your email contacts. Maybe a lot of people just didn't bother to read the message

Heres an interesting point for you...

An anonymous company's system administrator decided to do a test on the network to find out how many people actually read error messeges and such. He created a program that ran on login that presented a dialog box with the sentence "Would you like to format your hard drive?". The program logges all responces to this question, and 90% of the employees clicked yes absent mindedly, without even reading it. He promptly scheduled some basic computer training courses for the entire company. :)

My point? Sometimes people just don't care what the messege says... they just want to get it off there screen. And because M$ is so notorious for there over-used confirmation dialogs already, why would the average person pay attention to another one? In fact, I admit that even I clear messege boxes sometimes without even reading them.

  5. Re:That's a pretty big "mistake" on Slashback: Sex, Freiheit, Differentiation · · Score: 2

Finally, at any given time, despite our best efforts, a small number of the more than 4.7 million items on our site may be mispriced.

Read it again there boy-o.... They didn't say they mispriced 4.7 million items as many people seem to think they have... I see it specifically says a small number of there 4.7 million items... which generally means a fraction thereof..

Now the small fraction... what is it? 0.1%? 0.5%? 1%? 2%?

Even assuming a 0.1% error rate (which is pretty good for a big company like that... my company generally allows a 2% error rate...) thats 47000 products being mispriced...

That also means that 1/1000 people get a mispriced item... which I suppose isn't all that great... but you have to give them credit... if they can keep there error rate to less than 1%, then they're doing better than alot of companys.

People also have to remember that.. despite our greatest efforts... computers are only as smart as there programmers... and nobodys perfect. :)

  6. Re:Microsoft has always violated free software on Slashback: Lunacy, Cinema, Parliament · · Score: 1

Alright... this is great... but what I don't understand is that... with all the Anti-MS crap out there, and all the people crying *KILL MS!!!*.... Why are so many people *STILL* using there software??? It's not like there isn't other alternatives.... you can go to Linux, with its various different XWindows servers.... or hey... get out there and create yer own OS... why not? Hmmm... because you'd rather cry about the tyrancy of Microsoft... when all that MS was built on was an OS that started as simple as DOS! Theres no reason why that could not happen again. And maybe.... just maybe the lucky person that gets the jump on MS... will do things differently this time... and use MS as an example.... RIGHT?

  7. MPAA? on Slashback: Lunacy, Cinema, Parliament · · Score: 1

So... What I saw on the MPAA's Faq page was kindof funny.... they use an analogy that the CSS is similar to a Lock on the door of your house.... but the way I see it is... what good is a Lock on a door if you leave your windows open?

So what.... so somebody reverse engineered there software, and found out there big secret... I'm sure theres been bigger things cracked in the past... If they don't want DVD's ripped, then why distribute them... Oh... wait... they *KNOW* theres no way they can stop it... but... *OOPS* somebody made it public... and now they're crying piracy. I'm sure that if somebody had cracked the CSS and kept it quite and amongst a few of there friends... nothing would have ever been said...

  8. Atlantis??? or not... :) on Slashback V: Espionage, Midwifery, Intrusion · · Score: 1

So have they come up with a name for this new island yet?

And if so... what is it?

Did some of the old prophesies of Nostradamous (sp) mention of the rising of atlantis? Or was that something else? Has anyone even considered this? Its the year 2000, we've had the great and mighty planetary alignment, why could atlantis not rise as well? *laughs* Aww well... I'll leave it to you guys to decide.

And do they know how big this island will be when its done fiddling round with itself? I'm interested to find out what sort of life this will support if they just leave it alone... mankind could take a good lesson from this... as it has never really happened before... maybe they should leave it untouched, and see what pops up eh?
